Nebraska offensive lineman Teddy Prochazka named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

Nebraska football offensive lineman Teddy Prochazka has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. The announcement was made on social media Thursday afternoon. Prochazka has been a mainstay for the program ever since his arrival. Injuries have hampered his career in Lincoln, however, and 2024 was an unfortunate reminder. He sustained an injury during fall camp and missed the entirety of the season. His best year in terms of production came in 2023. He returned from injury and was able to start the final 10 games of the season. Now, he is looking to contribute to an offensive line that has seen an increase in depth over the last year. This nomination is certainly a reminder of what Prochazka can do off the field as well. He has been named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll eight times, and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2023 and 2024. In addition to being a contributor on the field, he is a role model off it. Jiri Prochazka criticizes Khalil Rountree 'careful' win over Jamahal Hill

Jiri Prochazka was not impressed by Khalil Rountree's most recent win. Rountree (14-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) defeated former champion Jamahal Hill (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) by unanimous decision in their UFC on ABC 8 main event June 21 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Rountree dropped Hill in Round 3, but wasn't able to finish him. Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who knocked out Hill at UFC 311, thinks Rountree was tentative throughout the fight, and let his foot off the gas pedal. "A very careful performance, patient," Prochazka said of Rountree's win over Hill on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "My opinion, I don't like that. I don't like that performance because he gave Jamahal too many chances to be back in the fight, a chance to win the fight. He had many chances to finish him decisively. So, that was really not good from him. He was very patient. "What surprised me was Jamahal Hill's performance. I thought after a lot of trash talking, he would show a much better fight than he showed. It was strange from Khalil that he let him recover and still survive the fight, and Jamahal didn't show anything, and he was still too self confident after the fight. If you want to fight on the top level, go there and show your best, totally, no regrets." Former champion Prochazka meets former title challenger Rountree in a three-round bout at UFC 320 on Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Prochazka hopes it's a No. 1 contender bout. Prochazka revealed that he will weigh in as a backup for the night's headliner between light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira.

Jiri Prochazka set as backup for UFC 320's Magomed Ankalaev vs. Alex Pereira 2

Jiri Prochazka already has a fight set for the main card of UFC 320, but will also serve as the backup fighter for the main event. On Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, former light heavyweight champion Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has a matchup on the books against former title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. The main event of the pay-per-view is a 205-pound title rematch between champ Magomed Ankalaev and former champ Alex Pereira. The UFC often labels a top contender as a backup fighter for a title fight in case something were to go wrong in the days ahead of the fight. Should the unthinkable happen, Prochazka will get the call. MMA Junkie confirmed the news following Prochazka's interview on "The Ariel Helwani Show." In this case, with Prochazka already being on the card, he will not make an unnecessary weight cut. However, he will have to make the championship weight of 205 pounds in order to be eligible to win the title. Through seven UFC fights, Prochazka has only needed to use the one-pound allowance for non-title fights once. Prochazka has history with one side of the main event, as he lost a vacant title fight to Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) at UFC 295, and failed to beat the Brazilian in a title rematch at UFC 303. The Czech Republic-born contender has not faced the current champion Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC). Should Prochazka not be needed as a backup, the fight against Rountree Jr. (14-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) could produce the next No. 1 contender. In his last outing, Prochazka rebounded from the second loss to Pereira by stopping Jamahal Hill in the third round at UFC 311.

Jiri Prochazka: People will stop taking 'big mouth guy' Magomed Ankalaev seriously

Jiri Prochazka: People will stop taking 'big mouth guy' Magomed Ankalaev seriously Jiri Prochazka thinks UFC light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev is talking too much. Since dethroning Alex Pereira to become champion at UFC 313, Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) has been active on social media, going after both "Poatan" and Jiri Prochazka for turning down a title fight against him at UFC 317. Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has opted to prioritize his studies, which Ankalaev mocked him for. "Alex Pereira don't want the Ank anymore. Let's leave him alone because I'm not a bully: Fake ninja he said he have to go back to school because he cannot read @danawhite @Mickmaynard2 give me some fish." The former UFC light heavyweight champion has no regrets putting university over the title fight. "I'm studying university for right now – three years. Everything is settled – this magister, everything is settled. Everything is good," Prochazka said in an interview with Full Violence. "I'm after the (Ankalaev) fight, it's a little bit of time. So right now, I'm focused for this target. My life is just about targets. What is most important right now, the priorit?. Right now, that's school." Prochazka isn't amused with Ankalaev's verbal jabs, and thinks he's shooting himself in the foot with his approach. "He's a big mouth guy," Prochazka said of Ankalaev. "I really don't care (if it's him or his manager), because he did enough to stop people from taking him seriously. This is not how the champ has to speak. He will put himself down just by this nonsense talking." Still unsure if Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) will get his title-fight rematch with Ankalaev, Prochazka is just looking to compete within the next couple of months – but his eyes remain on the prize. "August, October, something like that," Prochazka said of his return. "My manager is trying to keep negotiating this fight with Ankalaev. Let's see if Pereira will fight with him. I will fight him or with somebody else, but I'm focused on Ankalaev after that."
