Nigerian held with drugs worth 15 lakh in Erode
Erode: A Nigerian national was arrested in Erode on Saturday night for having in possession methamphetamine valued at 15 lakh. The arrested has been identified as Jones Duro Michael, 32, a footballer. A Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) team led by inspector S Sivahami Rani, apprehended him near the Vijayamangalam toll gate following a tip off. During inquiry it came to light that he lacked a valid visa and residency documents to stay in Tamil Nadu. "His passport had expired in 2023, and it is likely that he illegally entered the country through sea. Further probe is on," the inspector said. Police filed charges under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act, and the Foreigners Act, and remanded him in judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison on Sunday. Meanwhile, police have also arrested Melvin, 49, of Perundurai, for renting his house to the Nigerian peddler without checking his identity and documents.

Nigerian national arrested for selling cannabis in Erode
A Nigerian national was arrested by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing police (PEW) of Erode Town on charges of selling cannabis near the Vijayamangalam toll plaza in Erode district on Friday. The arrest took place during a routine patrol in the toll plaza area, where police noticed a foreign national loitering under suspicious circumstances. Upon questioning, the individual was identified as Jones (44), a citizen of Nigeria currently residing in Sangu Nagar, Vijayamangalam. During inquiry, the police found that he was involved in the sale of cannabis. Following this, Jones was arrested, and police seized 1.2 kilograms of cannabis and one gram of methamphetamine in his possession. Further investigation is on.

Two persons from Assam held for smuggling ganja at Central railway station
Two passengers travelling from Assam were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the Central railway station after they were found to be smuggling ganja. As part of 'Operation Narcos', a team of RPF personnel closely monitored the movement of passengers after the arrival of Coromandel Express at the railway station and intercepted two suspicious passengers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspects were carrying a black shoulder bag and were evasive during questioning. Upon inquiry, they identified themselves as Khurchid Ali, 23, of Sonipur and Sur Jaman, 23, of Nagaon in Assam. Both had travelled from Howrah to Chennai on a general ticket. Upon further inspection, 5 kg of ganja, estimated to have a market value of ₹2.5 lakh, was found in their possession. The seized contraband and the accused were subsequently handed over to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police for further legal action.

Odisha native held with 13 kg ganja on train
A man from Odisha travelling by train was caught with 13 kg of ganja on Thursday. The accused, identified as P. Abhinash Diwari, 28, was apprehended during a routine check by a three-member team from the Government Railway Police on Train No. 8311, the Sambalpur–Erode Weekly Special, between Jolarpettai and Erode Junction. The police team noticed a man moving suspiciously with a bag in the S4 reserved coach. Upon questioning, they discovered that he was travelling with an unreserved ticket and was in possession of a bag containing ganja. The contraband was seized, and the man was handed over to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing, which registered a case and placed him under arrest.
