Some Malaysian travellers caught unaware of new Thailand digital arrival card requirement
SUNGAI GOLOK: Many Malaysian travellers entering Thailand were unaware of the requirement to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online, which took effect yesterday. Most Malaysians arriving at the Sungai Golok checkpoint from Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, today had not completed the mandatory online application in advance. However, Thai immigration officers were on hand to assist travellers in completing the process on the spot. Malaysian Norhayati Salleh, 36, from Machang, said she was unaware of the TDAC requirement until she arrived at the border. "I had planned to visit my grandmother in Waeng and brought along my two siblings. "They are using international passports to enter Thailand, while I am using my border pass. "Upon arrival, I was informed that my siblings needed to fill out the online application. "I think it's a positive initiative, as it ensures smoother travel for foreign visitors," she said. Another visitor, Amir Mohamed, 21, praised the Thai government's initiative. "I didn't know I needed to complete the online form until the immigration officer informed me. "They were very friendly and guided me through the process," said Amir, who was travelling to Hat Yai with two friends. Meanwhile, Narathiwat Immigration Superintendent Pol. Col. Poonsak Kaewsiwaw said in a Facebook post that his team continues to monitor the implementation of the new system. He said the TDAC system aims to improve efficiency and service for both tourists and the public. "On the first day of implementation (May 1), a total of 10,251 people entered Thailand through the three border checkpoints in Narathiwat. "The atmosphere was very lively," he said. He said immigration authorities had launched a comprehensive awareness campaign in advance, with support from the Public Relations Department, to inform the public and tourists. "This has helped travellers prepare for the new system," he said. Poonsak also clarified that the TDAC system applies only to travellers using international passports. "Border pass holders can continue to cross the border using the existing procedure. "The new system covers all foreign nationals entering or leaving Thailand via air, land, or sea," he said.
