Pune's Eastern Growth Corridor: From Peripheral Patch to Powerhouse of Growth

Pune (Maharashtra), 7th August 2025: Once viewed as Pune's outer edge, the Eastern Growth Corridor encompassing Hadapsar, Kharadi, Wagholi, Manjri and Magarpatta has quietly emerged as the city's most transformative urban frontier. Hadapsar Link Road: Driving Growth in Pune's Eastern Corridor Strategically placed in the heart of this corridor, Hadapsar Link Road has evolved from a simple bypass into a powerful growth engine, connecting key hubs like Magarpatta and Kharadi. The Eastern Growth Corridor offers room for families and first-time buyers. Backed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the Smart Cities Mission, the region is witnessing coordinated infrastructure investment and massive employment growth. Our current priorities include constructing new roads and infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion, and advancing airport development. -Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State Compared to the saturated and over-priced western suburbs, the Eastern Growth Corridor offers room for families and first-time buyers. Secondly, the future-ready infrastructure will seamlessly bridge East and West Pune, making cross-city travel faster and smoother. A powerhouse of IT and Commercial activity Kharadi, Phursungi and Hadapsar have become thriving IT hubs with world-class campuses such as EON IT Park, SP Infocity and Magarpatta City, driving demand for high-quality residences, retail and commercial spaces. The airport and railway station are also within 15 to 25 minutes. The Maharashtra state government is set to disburse Rs. 17,000 cr. for land acquisition intended for major infrastructure projects. Close to Rs. 9000 cr. is allocated to the Pune Ring Road project. The Purandar airport project has also gained momentum with land acquisition set to be completed by October 2025. We're proud to work alongside the Government and policymakers. Our meeting with Union Minister Mohol focused on fast-tracking Metro expansion and addressing key environmental and infrastructure issues for the city's growth. - Ranjit Naiknavare, former President, CREDAI - Pune Metro All urban conveniences, well within reach. Reputed schools, colleges and hospitals, along with shopping destinations such as Amanora Mall and Phoenix Marketcity, offer an urban lifestyle backed by strong community infrastructure. It's about opportunities being created closer to where people live and focuses on less congestion, more access and better balance. The earlier you invest, the better. It's still early days if you look at it from an investment perspective. This presents a big opportunity as the prices are still on the rise. Upcoming projects like the Kharadi–Manjri riverfront and a proposed IT park in Manjri are enhancing long-term potential. Among integrated townships in the region, Magnacity by Kumar Realty stands out for its scale, amenities and strategic location. According to Q4 2024 data from Magicbricks and 99 acres, investor interest in Eastern Pune has increased by over 30% year-on-year. An ambitious integrated township, Magnacity is envisioned to blend modern amenities, abundant green spaces and thoughtful master planning - all at the heart of this thriving urban axis. Western Pune is a clear example - projects like Megapolis in Hinjawadi became catalysts that attracted top IT parks and global companies, setting off a wave of residential, commercial, and infrastructure growth. We see the same pattern emerging in Eastern Pune. As infrastructure rapidly develops - new ring roads, metro lines and the upcoming international airport - large-scale, well-planned communities like Magnacity will play a central role in defining the skyline and quality of life. - Manish Jain, MD, Kumar Realty All infrastructure projects are aimed at boosting the connectivity quotient of the Eastern Growth Corridor. The goal is to make connectivity seamless at every level. The upcoming Purandar International Airport is expected to open up new possibilities for logistics, business travel and global connectivity. Each of these developments is like adding another engine to the corridor's growth. As the skyline rises and infrastructure takes shape, those who invest early will reap the rewards of vision and timing. The city is shifting towards the east. The smart move is to follow it. PMRDA to work as single-point coordinator for citizens' complaints in Hinjewadi IT Park area

1 2 Pune: Divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has asked PMRDA to act as the single-point coordinator for citizens to raise infrastructure-related concerns around the Hinjewadi IT Park area. The development took place during a review meeting held on Thursday to assess ongoing works in the zone. The decision comes in response to repeated complaints from IT professionals and residents, who said they were often unsure which govt body to approach due to overlapping jurisdictions of multiple agencies in Hinjewadi. Pavanjit Mane from the Forum for IT Employees (FITE), who was present at the meeting, welcomed the move. He said, "Until now, there was no centralised platform for IT employees to raise concerns due to the involvement of multiple agencies. With this change, we can now approach a single authority, which can then coordinate internally to get things done." Sachin Londhe from the Wakad Pimpri Chinchwad Residents Development and Welfare Association, who initiated the 'UNCLOG Hinjewadi' online petition, said, "We now expect PMRDA to take serious note of citizens' concerns, which it has missed in the past." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Are Unstoppable: The Most Beautiful and Talented Female Athletes Undo Londhe, who also attended the meeting, pointed out that although some decisions are finally being implemented, the area has faced years of neglect. "Authorities should consider taking disciplinary action against officers who failed to act in time, leading to the current situation," he said. Dnyanendra Hulsure, president of the Hinjewadi Employees and Residents Trust (HEART), supported the appointment of PMRDA as the nodal body. "It makes sense to assign this role to an agency already working in the region, as they are more familiar with on-ground realities. Bringing in someone new would delay action due to a lack of context," he said. IT professionals, however, remain cautious. While they acknowledged that officials are starting to act, they stressed that little has changed on the ground. "Traffic congestion remains a daily struggle. Years of negligence by previous officials created a huge backlog. It will take time to bring some visible change on the ground," an IT employee told TOI.

Pune metropolitan region development authority (PMRDA) clears four town planning schemes with govt nod; push for ring road, urban development

PUNE: The state government has given final approval to four Town Planning (TP) Schemes proposed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), paving the way for accelerated infrastructure development in several rapidly urbanizing villages, senior officials from PMRDA told TOI on Thursday. The decision is expected to give momentum to planned growth in the PMRDA region, particularly with the development of a 6.8-km stretch of the proposed ring road, added officials.. The approved TP schemes include two for Wadachiwadi and one each for Autade-Handewadi and Holkarwadi. The fourth approved scheme falls within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits, covering the Fursungi area. Tension in Maan over road widening drive

Pune: Tensions flared in Maan village on Tuesday as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) faced local resistance during a road demarcation drive, despite strict instructions from deputy chief minister and Pune guardian minister Ajit Pawar to proceed with the widening project and take police action against any obstruction. Tension in Maan over road widening drive The PMRDA had earlier issued notices to unauthorised structures along the Hinjewadi-Maan Road stretch from Pandav Nagar to Rakshevasti. In response, many residents dismantled tin sheds and makeshift shops. However, confusion erupted when PMRDA officials began marking a 36-meter-wide road near the Maan gaothan area without issuing fresh notices, prompting locals to question the legality of the action. As the situation escalated, police intervened and detained a few residents for questioning. The sudden action heightened tensions in the village for a brief period. The widening project, overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD), is part of an infrastructure upgrade for Pune's IT hub, following directives from Ajit Pawar. However, the local gram panchayat and several residents had previously appealed to limit the road width to 18 or 24 meters near residential areas, and had submitted written requests to both Pawar and the PMRDA Commissioner. Despite these appeals, authorities have maintained that the development will proceed strictly according to the sanctioned Development Plan (DP). During a recent site review, Pawar reportedly told locals, 'You may say whatever you want, but I will do what is necessary,' reaffirming his commitment to the 36-meter-wide road. 'We are following the approved DP. Demarcation is being carried out in phases, and notices have been served wherever required. The resistance is unfortunate, but the project is in the larger public interest,' said a senior official from PMRDA's land and estate management department.
