QU Health Clinical Affairs fetes educators for special contributions
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar University (QU) Health Clinical Affairs organised its annual Clinical Faculty Members Appreciation Day, bringing together more than 400 clinical academic staff and distinguished guests from the country's leading healthcare institutions, including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), and Sidra Medicine. The event served as a platform to honour the exceptional contributions of clinical faculty members and their pivotal role in preparing and equipping the next generation of healthcare leaders. It also highlighted the importance of strategic collaboration between QU and its healthcare partners to ensure the development of a healthcare workforce capable of meeting future demands. In a statement, Prof Asma Al-Thani, vice president for medical and health sciences at QU, emphasised the essential role of clinical education, stating, 'Clinical education plays a pivotal role in developing the competencies of our future healthcare professionals. It provides students with evidence-based practical experiences that enhance their clinical skills and align with global best practices. Clinical faculty members are key elements in this system, serving as academic mentors who guide students and integrate them as active practitioners in healthcare environments.' Dr Khalid Mohammed Al-Jalham, chief medical officer at HMC, stated, 'The future of health care lies in the hands of those we educate today. Our clinical faculty are not just teachers—they are mentors, role models, and the guiding force behind every great healthcare professional.' Prof Hiba Bawadi, director of clinical affairs at QU, added, 'This is a very important day for the health sector, where all clinical staff from the major healthcare institutions in the country are honoured for their efforts in educating and training students from the colleges of medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and health sciences. It shows that QU values and appreciates everyone involved in the education of its students.' Prof Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, chairman of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at HMC, remarked, 'This recognition by the College of Medicine at QU, which takes place every year at the end of the academic year, celebrates the efforts made by the clinical staff. We take pride in our role in teaching medical students who represent the future.' Maryam Al-Rashid, head of academic affairs and senior consultant family medicine at PHCC, stated, 'At the PHCC, we take pride in our strategic partnership with QU and reaffirm our strong commitment to supporting the advancement of health education in the State of Qatar. This is achieved by aligning educational outcomes with the needs of the healthcare sector and presenting a pioneering national model that integrates academic education with clinical practice.' The event featured the announcement of the 2025 Clinical Education and Research Awards, the presentation of certificates of appreciation, and opportunities for networking and relationship-building aimed at strengthening partnerships between academia and the healthcare sector.

Tribune News Network Doha Qatar University (QU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Summit AI Qatar (InspiredMinds) as part of the university's efforts to advance the knowledge-based economy, promote scientific research, and contribute to building national capacities in the field of artificial intelligence, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country's digital agenda. World Summit AI (WSAI) is the largest recognised AI community globally and has become the most important summit on the planet dedicated to advancing strategies for AI development. Spotlighting the wide-ranging applications, potential risks, inherent benefits, and remarkable opportunities associated with AI advancements worldwide, WSAI has cemented its status as the definitive platform for shaping the future of this transformative technology. The MoU was signed by Dr. Aiman Erbad, vice president for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, and Sarah Porter, CEO and Founder of InspiredMinds, the organizing body of the World Summit AI. The signing ceremony was attended by officials from QU, InspiredMinds, and representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Under this agreement, QU will serve as the official exclusive education partner of the AI Summit in Qatar from 2025 to 2028. This partnership will offer unique opportunities for students and faculty to engage with international experts, showcase their research and entrepreneurial projects, and participate in hands-on activities such as specialized classes, advisory clinics, and global discussion sessions. The World summit AI serves as a prominent platform for transforming academic excellence into tangible impact by spotlighting applied research, student innovations, and emerging technologies in sectors such as health, business, and AI infrastructure. This participation supports the innovation and entrepreneurship framework at QU, reflecting its journey from idea to research, commercialization, and national transformation. In his statement, Dr. Aiman Erbad, vice president for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, said, 'This agreement reflects QU's firm commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation and reaffirms the university's leadership in supporting digital transformation and developing AI technologies to benefit both Qatari and global communities. Hassan Jassim Al Sayed, minister's advisor and Artificial Intelligence Committee chairman, at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), said, 'We are pleased to have Qatar University on board as the education partner of the World Summit AI Qatar. QU announces new cycle of research grant programmes
Tribune News Network Doha As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting scientific research and advancing its role in national development, Qatar University (QU) has announced the launch of a new cycle of internal research grant programmes. These programmes aim to empower researchers at various academic and professional stages and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration at both local and international levels. The new cycle covers a wide range of research tracks, including student grants, Postdoctoral Researcher Grants, National Capacity Building Grants, Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Grants, Humanities and Social Sciences Grants, International, Industrial, and Governmental Collaboration Grants, as well as Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Grants, and Direct College Support. The newly implemented evaluation system is based on rigorous mechanisms that ensure integrity and transparency, involving specialised working teams and an integrated digital platform for tracking the evaluation process. A significant portion of project content must align with national research priorities, with external experts consulted as needed. This framework is designed to connect scientific research outcomes with the needs of Qatari society, thereby contributing to the development of a sustainable knowledge-based economy and the realisation of Qatar National Vision 2030. It also supports innovation, capacity building, and the expansion of international partnerships. The research grant programmes fall into several categories, including: Student Grants (Undergraduate and Graduate Student Grants): Empower undergraduate and master's students to engage in scientific research within specialised academic teams, enhancing their research skills and preparing them for postgraduate studies and careers in academia and research. Postdoctoral Grants: Provide opportunities for postdoctoral researchers to conduct independent research or collaborate within research teams at QU, supporting their transition into stable academic careers and expanding the university's research network. • National Capacity Building Grants: Support early-career Qatari researchers to enhance their skills and develop a national research workforce capable of leading future scientific projects. Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Grants: Encourage collaboration among researchers from diverse fields to solve complex issues requiring multi-perspective approaches, fostering a comprehensive research environment and delivering real-world solutions for societal challenges. Humanities and Social Sciences Grants (QUHSS Grants): Support projects addressing Qatari societal issues in areas such as identity, family, education, women, culture, and heritage. The aim is to deepen social understanding and contribute to evidence-based policymaking. International Academic and Industrial Collaboration Grants: Expand research collaboration with global academic institutions or industrial partners (public or private), promoting knowledge transfer and offering practical application opportunities for research findings. Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Grants: Encourage researchers to translate their findings into practical products or services, promote intellectual property registration and patent development, and establish commercial or industrial partnerships through the university's Innovation Office.
