Shocking moment mass brawl breaks out between huge group of high schoolers on popular New York vacation beach
This is the shocking moment a mass brawl broke out among hundreds of high schoolers at a popular New York beach. Around three hundred teenagers had gathered on Jones Beach, on Thursday afternoon when the fighting kicked off. Officials told News12 Long Island the gathering was an unsanctioned 'Senior Cut Day' in Nassau County and Queens County. Footage shared to social media shows a police helicopter hovering low over the crowds. Revelers were seen running back to the nearby boardwalk due to the sand being kicked up by the blades of the chopper. Some students who spoke with the outlet said that several fights broke out during the large gathering. One said: 'Everybody started fighting cause there was a lot of people, there was like three different fights.' In another video taken from the main road leading to the popular beach spot, dozens of police cars and ambulances can be seen parked up outside of the entrance. According to authorities who moved in to disperse the large crowds, there were four minor injuries due to the fighting. In a statement, Nassau County Police said: 'The Nassau County Police Department responded with a significant amount of resources including the Emergency Services Unit (ESU), Bureau of Special Operations (BSO) and Aviation Unit. 'The crowd eventually dispersed. There were four minor injuries as a result of fights, those individuals were all treated at scene and refused further medical attention.' Officers also said that while at the scene they were approached by a man who lifted his shirt to display the handle of what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband. The gun turned out to be fake, cops said, as they arrested and charged 18-year-old Kyle Thomas with menacing and disorderly conduct over the incident. Despite the large scale disruption, state park officials said the beach would be open as usual on Friday. News12 also reported that a beach in Long Island was preemptively closed last week to prevent a similar 'senior cut day' from happening on the sand. Nearby resident Naydelin Moreno told the outlet: 'This is crazy, everything is out of control and there should be some kind of punishment.' Officials said they would continue to monitor social media to track any other potential gatherings. In June of last year a 16-year-old was shot near a train station in Long Beach during a skip day that saw over 2,000 students on the beach. Speaking after the shooting, City Manager Daniel Creighton said the incident had spawned new rules on the beach. Beach passes would be required, with unpermitted gatherings for groups of over 100 people being made illegal, Creighton said back then.

1 person escapes as afternoon fire destroys single-family home in Long River, P.E.I.
A single-family home in a rural community in P.E.I.'s Queens County was destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon. Chief Scott Mintie of the New London Fire Department said the department responded to a report about a fire in the Long River area at about 2 p.m. When firefighters got there, the house was already fully engulfed in flames. "There were high winds from the south-southwest. They're estimated about 35 km/h, and this did contribute to the rapid spread of the fire," Mintie said. "This is a strong reminder that emergencies can escalate quickly, especially in windy conditions." One person was inside the home at the time but managed to get out safely. That person was taken to hospital as a precaution to be checked for smoke inhalation. A vehicle in the driveway was also damaged, and a small spot fire caused by flying embers was quickly extinguished. Crews were able to bring the blaze under control by 3:15 p.m. The Kensington Fire Department was also called in to help. No injuries were reported among responding fire crews, Mintie said. "It's critical that every home has a working smoke alarm and a fire escape plan that the whole family understands and practises," he added. "[In] situations like today, seconds do matter. The occupant's ability to quickly exit most likely prevented a far more tragic outcome."

Man faces charges for allegedly stealing Good Samaritan's truck after P.E.I. collision
A 20-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a Good Samaritan's truck following a collision in Central Badeque, P.E.I., Wednesday morning. Prince District RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle, side-swipe collision around 7:47 a.m. Police say a car and tractor-trailer were involved in the incident. Police learned someone stopped to help at the scene and allege one of the drivers involved in the collision stole the person's truck. Prince District RCMP used the truck owner's GPS to track the vehicle into Queens County, where local RCMP stopped and arrested the 20-year-old man. Two arrested in connection with cocaine trafficking investigation in Lunenburg and Queens counties
An RCMP vehicle is seen in this file photo. A man and a woman are facing drug-related charges in connection with a cocaine trafficking investigation in Nova Scotia's Lunenburg and Queens counties. The RCMP conducted a targeted traffic stop in Hebbville on Thursday just before 2 p.m. Police say the occupants of the vehicle, a 30-year-old woman and 26-year-old man were arrested. Officers executed a search warrant at a home on Charles Boliver Road in Conquerall Mills later that afternoon. 'A search of the home and of the vehicle led officers to seize a quantity of cocaine, hydromorphone, cash, ammunition and cell phones,' reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP. The woman and man are both facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and were released on conditions. They are scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on Aug. 20.
