Shadow group in CM's office controlling police: Satheesan

Kochi: Opposition's allegation that police are not governed by chief minister but by a shadow group within his office is underscored by vigilance court's verdict against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, said opposition leader V D Satheesan on Friday. Speaking to the media, Satheesan said it was a reality that an invisible force, which does anything for its favourites, was hiding under govt's guise, controlling both govt and police. The court asked which invisible force decided to give a clean chit and referred to it as an invisible force because it couldn't explicitly call it a shadow group, as opposition claims, he said. "Anyone with common sense can understand from reading the vigilance investigation report that it was an attempt to protect someone. Chief Minister must respond to this; silence is not an option. Court raised serious allegations against chief minister and police administration. Ajith Kumar met the RSS leader on behalf of chief minister. This officer did several questionable things for govt," Satheesan alleged. Although opposition's allegation of the officer meeting the RSS leader was initially denied, later everyone admitted it, he said. "Chief minister improperly helped the officer who was involved in everything and nepotism is evident," he alleged. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Benefits of Trading Bitcoin CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo "When a report on Palarivattom bridge cited engineering errors, the current ruling party alleged corruption and tried to imprison the then-minister. Now, every month, a bridge collapses, but Palarivattom bridge hasn't fallen. A bridge worth Rs 24 crore has now fallen into the river. If a public works department bridge collapses one day, a national highway will collapse for three consecutive days. They are competing in this regard. Yet, Kerala govt has no complaints against National Highways Authority of India or surface transport department," said Satheesan. No one in BJP spoke about voter list irregularities and despite serious allegations, even the Prime Minister remained silent, he said. "There are numerous allegations regarding elections in Thrissur, with no response. BJP leaders say those who made allegations should be hanged. Not all votes in Wayanad parliamentary constituency have been enrolled in voters list, let alone fake votes," he said. "When the local legislative assembly voter list is released, it will be specially scrutinised. UDF prioritises preparation and voter list purification in every election. There was an attempt to add fake votes in Palakkad. What happened in Thrissur district in 2021 won't happen in upcoming elections. Legislative assembly elections in Thrissur will reflect UDF's bright comeback in state," he added. Satheesan said that he had no quarrel with SNDP Yogam or its general secretary Vellappally Natesan. Assets case: Court rejects vigilance clean chit to ADGP

Thiruvananthapuram : The Special Vigilance Court here on Thursday rejected the vigilance department's report that exonerated ADGP M R Ajith Kumar in the disproportionate assets case, citing that the inquiry was "incomplete" and lacking in essential procedures. The court directed the recording of the statement of petitioner Adv Neyyattinkara Nagaraju, who sought a proper investigation of allegations against the additional director general of police, before deciding whether to order a fresh probe. After examining the report approved by the govt, it said the vigilance inquiry — conducted by a special unit on the state govt's directive — failed to meet even basic investigative standards. It noted that the officer's annual asset statements and income tax returns from 1994 to 2025 were never collected, while the raids on his residence and flat yielded no critical documents. There was no valuation certificate for gold, silver, diamonds and other valuables, despite the possibility of such an assessment by relevant authorities. The court further observed that bank accounts, fixed deposit receipts and bank lockers were not examined, nor was permission under the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968, produced for the purchase or sale of movable and immovable assets. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Authorities like the registration IG and the land revenue commissioner were never contacted to identify undisclosed assets. The investigators also failed to collect call detail records from nodal officers or analyse the call and tower location data of the accused through the hi-tech enquiry cell, it said. No clear distinction was made between legitimate income and alleged unexplained wealth, and the percentage of asset growth over the period was never calculated. It also cited the failure to trace the teak logs allegedly removed from the Malappuram SP office and accused the vigilance of deliberately withholding incriminating evidence. A key omission flagged by the court was the disregard for the testimony of the Vanchiyoor SBI home loan chief manager that the construction of a multi-storeyed residence by the accused in Kowdiar was a Rs 3.58-crore project — a figure absent from the final report. The vigilance probe, which followed allegations raised by former MLA P V Anwar, concluded that the property transactions and construction records were in order and there was no proof of illegal wealth accumulation. The officer had courted controversies earlier too, with allegations coming up over his role in last year's Pooram sabotage row, his meetings with RSS leaders, his tractor ride to Sabarimala and links with a gold smuggling racket. Thrissur Pooram case: Home secy endorses action against Ajith Kumar

Thiruvananthapuram: Additional chief secretary (home and vigilance) endorsed former state police chief's report recommending action against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar in connection with serious lapses during Thrissur Pooram celebrations, it is reliably learned. The report, prepared by former DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib and now forwarded to the chief minister, cites a grave dereliction of duty and recommended disciplinary proceedings against the senior officer. The police chief's report, it is learned, points out that Kumar, the senior-most officer on duty present in Thrissur, failed to act even as tensions escalated during the Pooram in 2024. Despite being alerted by revenue minister K Rajan about an altercation between then Thrissur commissioner Ankit Asok and the Pooram organisers, Kumar reportedly assured that he would review the situation at night and handle it appropriately. However, when the situation deteriorated, the officer allegedly became unreachable. Rajan is learned to have told the inquiry team that Kumar didn't respond to calls made during the peak of the crisis. Govt announced a three-tier investigation into the incident and the current development comes nearly a year after the probe was initiated. The home secretary's endorsement of police chief's findings signals govt's seriousness in acting on the internal report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Αθήνα: Ζητούνται 200 άτομα για δωρεάν δοκιμή ακουστικού Akoustica Medica Undo Kumar faced multiple controversies during his career. He was appointed as director of vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (VACB) in April 2022 and took charge on April 22. But in May 2022, VACB faced criticism for its handling of the detention of P S Sarith, an accused in the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case. On June 10, 2022, he was removed as vigilance chief. Subsequently, he was appointed as ADGP (protection of civil rights), a newly created post. By Oct 2022, he was reinstated as ADGP (law and order). However, on Oct 6, 2024, govt once again removed him from the post following an adverse report by then DGP Sahib and political pressure from ruling allies, CPI and RJD. The charge of law and order was then handed over to Manoj Abraham, though Kumar continued to head the armed police battalion. On Jan 30, 2025, he was relieved of his additional post as central sports officer. Besides this, Kumar was in the spotlight over other controversies too. He faced a vigilance probe for alleged amassment of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. Though an inquiry eventually exonerated him, the episode added to the cloud over his public image. He was then dragged into a controversy over alleged links to a gold smuggling racket — a charge publicly levelled by former MLA P V Anvar — though no official action followed those claims.

Kerala HC slams ADGP's tractor ride to Sabarimala Sannidhanam

Kochi: High court on Wednesday criticised the incident in which ADGP M R Ajith Kumar used a tractor on the Sabarimala trekking path, stating that the act was intentional and unfortunate. The bench of Justices Anil K Narendran and S Muralee Krishna was considering the report submitted by the Sabarimala special commissioner regarding the alleged incident, in which the ADGP used a tractor to reach Sannidhanam on July 12 and returned to Pamba the next day. While the Devaswom bench was considering the matter, it was submitted that Ajith Kumar used the tractor due to certain health issues. However, HC orally observed that if he had any ailment, he ought to have used the ambulance service, adding that the tractor is not meant for transporting passengers. The Sabarimala special commissioner's report stated that the alleged incident violated the 2021 HC order, which had expressly prohibited the transportation of pilgrims, devaswom officials, police personnel and others in tractors designated for goods transport to Sannidhanam. The senior govt pleader informed HC that the state police chief has already sought an explanation from the ADGP. It was also submitted that a crime has been registered at the Pamba police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 223 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), sections 66(1) (using a vehicle without permit) and 192(A) (operating a vehicle without permit) of the Motor Vehicles Act. The senior govt pleader further sought time to place on record an affidavit from the chief police coordinator of Sabarimala (ADGP) regarding the incident. Accordingly, the bench adjourned the matter to Monday.
