Bengaluru: In a move to empower SC and ST communities by safeguarding their access to welfare schemes, the govt has launched its flagship 'Nanna Guruthu' (My Identity) initiative in two gram panchayats — Huskur in Bengaluru Urban and Biligiriranganabetta in Chamarajanagar — as pilot locations. The rural development and panchayat raj (RDPR) and social welfare departments, which will jointly implement the initiative, aim to collect and securely store 13 essential govt documents in DigiLocker for every SC and ST beneficiary. These include Aadhaar, caste and income certificates, ration card, voter ID, pensions, Ayushman Bharat Health ID, and MGNREGA job cards, among others. "Nanna Guruthu will be implemented in Kalyana Karnataka gram panchayats based on learnings from the pilot project," said Priyank Kharge, RDPR minister. In Biligiriranganabetta GP, the target is to digitise 17,549 documents, of which 12,736 have already been uploaded. In Huskur GP, 14,517 of the targeted 18,246 documents have been secured. "Since the initiative is being implemented for SCs and STs, a request has been sent to the social welfare department to release Rs 16 crore from SCSP/TSP grant action plan for the year 2025-26," said the official. RDPR department has also written to all zilla panchayat chief executive officers, instructing them to prepare for expanding the initiative within their jurisdictions.

RSS' critics are labelled as traitors since 2014: Priyank

Gadag: RDPR minister Priyank Kharge has said those questioning RSS or Veer Savarkar are labelled as traitors since 2014. Inaugurating 'Yuva Dhwani' event organised for the newly elected officebearers of Gadag district Youth Congress, Kharge said organisations which did not contribute to nation-building are now handing out certificates of patriotism. "While Mahatma Gandhi's statues are found from Gujarat to Germany, the BJP prefers statues of Godse and Savarkar," he alleged. Kharge claimed Savarkar awarded himself the title 'Veer', and received a pension of Rs 60 from the British, and was the first to demand a separate nation for Muslims. Claiming that under PM Narendra Modi, no new scheme was announced in the past 11 years, Priyank said Atal Pension Yojana was merely a rebranding of Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana from the Manmohan Singh govt. Swachh Bharat initiative was a renaming of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. "Youth should be aware of these issues and critically evaluate content on social media," he advised. Law and tourism minister HK Patil said Congress always walks the talk. "During Indira Gandhi's regime, a 20-point programme was announced to eradicate poverty. Now, chief minister Siddaramaiah is working to uplift the poor above the poverty line through schemes like the Yuva Nidhi and the five guarantee schemes. Opposition parties believe they can win elections by dividing people on caste and religious lines, but it is not possible," he opined.

Karnataka BJP neta alleges Rs 1,000-crore graft in RDPR department

BENGALURU: Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary P Rajeev on Tuesday alleged that over Rs 1,000 crore has been misappropriated in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) department in the implementation of various projects, including various works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Revealing this to reporters here, Rajeev said corruption is rampant in the department and in many cases, funds have been released for works that have not been taken up. In one gram panchayat in Kudachi Assembly segment in Belagavi district, irregularities to the tune of Rs 17 crore have taken place. There are 6,000 gram panchayats in the state and one could imagine the scale of corruption there. The BJP leader alleged that in some cases, photographs of same persons have been used with different names to get funds released under various welfare schemes. Rajeev said, 'Priyank Kharge avare (RDPR minister) what are you doing in your department? Is it happening without your approval, or what is your share in the commission?' He said he has documents to support his allegations. A complaint has been filed with the Lokayukta office. Priyank Kharge, who often talks about international politics, should order a probe into the irregularities in his department, he said. All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala frequently visited Karnataka to arrange funds for elections in Bihar, he alleged.
