KOTA KINABALU (July 21): A businessman with the title 'Datuk' has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly soliciting RM6,000 from an individual to obtain a Pahang state award. The suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at about noon today when he appeared at the Sabah MACC Office here to give a statement. According to a source, the suspect is believed to have offered to help the complainant obtain the title of Datuk from Pahang in 2023, even though he did not have the authority to do so. 'The suspect is believed to have dishonestly induced the complainant to transfer RM6,000 purportedly for the purchase of ceremonial clothing accessories needed to obtain the award,' he said. Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said that the suspect was released on bail. He said the suspect is scheduled to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court this Thursday (July 24) under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

The suspect, in his 40s, was detained around noon today when he came to the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office to have his statement recorded. According to a source, the suspect is believed to have offered help in obtaining a 'Datuk' title in 2023, despite having no authority or qualification to do so. "The suspect dishonestly persuaded the victim to transfer around RM6,000, claiming it was for the purchase of ceremonial attire accessories supposedly required to obtain the honorary title," the source said. When contacted, MACC Sabah director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest. He said the suspect was released on bail after paying RM5,000 of the total RM10,000 bail amount. "The suspect is expected to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court this Thursday under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009," he said.

Officers from the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested the businessman, who is in his 40s and has a "Datuk" title, on Monday (July 21) when he turned up at the state MACC head office here at about noon. According to sources, the suspect, a Sarawakian, deceived the victim of about RM6,000 although he had no authority to do so. "The suspect dishonestly induced the complainant to transfer about RM6,000 for the purchase of ceremonial clothing and regalia supposedly to obtain the title in 2023," the source said. When contacted. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said that the suspect was released on RM10,000 bail. He said the suspect would be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court on Thursday (July 24) under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
