GOF nabs trio, seizes 75,500kg of crude palm oil
IPOH: The General Operations Force (GOF) North Brigade detained three men suspected of attempting to misappropriate 75,400kg of crude palm oil during Op Taring Palma in Taiping yesterday. Its commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said the three-hour operation also led to the seizure of two tanker lorries, one bonded lorry and three mobile phones, with an estimated total value of RM975,200. He said the team detected a suspicious tanker lorry in the area and trailed it to the side of Jalan Taiping-Bagan Serai. "Further investigation revealed that the suspects had transferred the crude palm oil from the tanker lorries to the bonded lorry. "An inspection found 10 blue drums with a capacity of 200 litres each in the bonded lorry, along with several tools used to transfer the crude palm oil," he said in a statement today. He said the suspects and the seized items were handed over to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Northern Region for further investigation under Regulation 5 of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005. "The Taiping Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division also issued two summonses to the suspects for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987," he said. – Bernama

The raid, codenamed Op Taring Palma, also led to the seizure of two tanker lorries, one bonded lorry, and three mobile phones, with an estimated total value of RM975,200. According to GOF commander SAC Shahrum Hashim, the operation lasted three hours after authorities detected a suspicious tanker lorry in the area. The team trailed the vehicle to the side of Jalan Taiping-Bagan Serai, where further investigation revealed the suspects had transferred the crude palm oil from the tanker lorries to the bonded lorry. GOF seizes 75 tonnes of crude palm oil, nabs three in Taiping
IPOH: Crude palm oil, vehicles and equipment worth almost RM1mil have been seized during a police operation in Taiping. General Operations Force (GOF) Northern Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Shahrum Hashim said the seizure included 75,400kg of crude palm oil, two tanker lorries, one bonded lorry, equipment used for transferring the oil, and three mobile phones. SAC Shahrum said three men were also arrested during the operation between 3pm and 6pm on Wednesday (July 16). "Our team detected a suspicious lorry believed to be involved in palm oil misappropriation in the Taiping area. "We trailed the lorry until it stopped by the roadside on Jalan Taiping-Bagan Serai," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 17). "The suspects were caught in the act of transferring crude palm oil from two tanker lorries into a bonded lorry. "Upon inspection, we found 10 blue barrels, each with a 200-litre capacity, inside the bonded lorry, along with several pieces of equipment used to transfer the crude palm oil," he added. The total value of the seizures was estimated at RM975,200. SAC Shahrum also said that the Taiping police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division had issued two summonses to the suspects under the Road Transport Act 1987. "The suspects and the seized items have been handed over to the Northern Region Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for further investigation. "The case is being investigated under Regulation 5 of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations," he said. "The public is urged to act as the authorities' eyes and ears by reporting any illegal activities," he added.

Melaka govt steps in to help elderly disabled man after viral post
MELAKA: The Melaka government through related agencies is managing the welfare aspects of an elderly disabled man whose plight went viral for living in poor conditions with chickens and cats, to ensure his life is more secure and comfortable. State Women's Affairs, Family Development and Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Nordin said Mazalan Ahmad, 61, who is now undergoing treatment at the Melaka Hospital will be placed at a private senior citizens' care centre in Muar, Johor after he is discharged from hospital. She said part of the monthly costs for the care centre, which provides intensive care especially for chronic diabetic patients among the elderly, will be covered by the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM) and the other half by her. "We, together with the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), have managed the disability pension that he should receive, which amounts to RM975 per month," she told reporters after visiting the man at the Melaka Hospital here yesterday. "Perkeso will also assist with basic needs such as food supplies, disposable diapers and prosthetic limbs." On her visit, Kalsom was accompanied by Melaka Department of Social Welfare director Halyjah Muhammad, and representatives from other agencies including Perkeso and MAIM.
