Director RS Prasanna says 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is an 'honest film'
Director RS Prasanna has shared his excitement and insights about his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, which stars Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and actress Genelia Deshmukh in the lead. The film, set to release on June 20, 2025, has already generated buzz, especially after the release of its trailer in May. Sitaare Zameen Par is a sequel to Khan's 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The film faced criticism for perceived similarities with the international film Champions, a remake of the Spanish drama Campeones. Yet, Prasanna remains confident in his film's unique approach and powerful message. "... the core emotion comes from Taare Zameen Par. The thought and the mindset began with that film," he said. "Hopefully, this picture will take that thought and mindset in a new direction." The director revealed how the idea of Sitaare Zameen Par came about, recounting a personal memory from 2007 when Aamir Khan won the Best Debut Director award for Taare Zameen Par. "As we began pre-production, I kept referencing Taare Zameen Par," he shared, adding, "Aamir Sir and I often discussed scenes from that film. One day, he suggested that we view Sitaare Zameen Par as an extension of that emotion. It was a natural progression." Sitaare Zameen Par casts actors with special needs, including individuals with Down's syndrome and autism. "...They're the true heroes of this film," he said. "We couldn't have made this film without them." The director elaborated on the challenges and joys of working with these exceptional actors. "It was not difficult to direct them. They were the ones who directed us," Prasanna admitted, adding, "They taught us how to interact with them. All we needed to do was guide them on technical aspects like camera angles and lighting. Their acting was natural, real, and powerful. They made the set a better place." Prasanna also highlighted the role of casting directors Tess Joseph and Anmol Ahuja in the lengthy audition process, which included over 2,500 auditions and workshops. Prasanna was all praise for Aamir Khan, describing him as not just a star but also an ideal collaborator. "There is something called Aamir magic," the director said. The film, scheduled to release on June 20, 2025, follows the story of a basketball coach who works with a group of individuals with intellectual disabilities. ANI

Is Mahabharat Aamir Khan's Last Film? Actor Says, "I Cannot Do Anything After This"
Aamir Khan is all set for the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. The RS Prasanna directorial is scheduled to hit cinema screens on June 20. Up next, the superstar will begin work on his long-cherished dream project, Mahabharat. In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Aamir hinted that Mahabharat might be his final project. Speaking about the scale of bringing the mythological epic to life on screen, Aamir Khan said, 'It's layered, it has emotion, it has scale, everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat…Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that." He added, "I hope that I die with my shoes on, but since you are asking, this is the one thing I can think of. Perhaps after this, I will feel that I don't need to do anything else." In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan shared his vision for Mahabharat. 'That's one of my biggest ambitions," the actor said, admitting that even developing the script would take years. "We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part. I don't think you can tell the 'Mahabharat' in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale," he added. Noting that it may be a multi-director project, he concluded, "To complete it within a set time, we will need more than one director." Aamir Khan is also producing Rajkumar Santoshi's period-drama Lahore 1947, featuring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.

Reddit feels Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par remake is a frame-by-frame copy of Campeones trailer: ‘Another remake after Laal Singh Chaddha'
Aamir Khan Productions unveiled the trailer of RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par on Tuesday evening. While it's a spiritual sequel to Aamir Khan's 2007 directorial debut Taare Zameen Par, the lesser known fact is that it's an official remake of Javier Fesser's 2018 Spanish film Campeones. A Redditor compared the trailers of both the films, and pointed out striking similarities. These include Aamir's character of the coach drinking while driving and bumping his car into a police van in the middle of the road, just like Javier Gutierrez's character in the original. Both are then penalized by the court to train a bunch of mentally challenged kids for a basketball tournament. Other similarities include the coach's character throwing the basketball straight into the face of one of the kids, as the others shield their faces in the next shot. The bouncing boards of the protagonist are the same too — his friend and his mother — but his wife (played by Genelia D'Souza in Sitaare Zameen Par) — doesn't feature in the trailer of the Spanish original. Looks like SZP is a frame-by-frame copy of the Spanish hit Campeones(2023). byu/Chai_Lijiye inBollyBlindsNGossip 'After the Forest Gump fiasco, he should have stayed away from remakes or adaptations,' commented another Redditor, referring to Aamir's last film, Advait Chandan's Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), the official Hindi remake of Robert Zemeckis' 1994 cult film Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks. Laal Singh Chaddha didn't work at the box office. 'Perfectionist in copying the film frame by frame,' claimed a Redditor, while another one pointed out, 'Look at his filmography again. He has remade the godfather, kramer vs kramer, on the waterfront, forrest gump. A lot of them have scenes lifted frame by frame. I still love Ghulam, akele hum etc. The point is he's had a lot of practice,' referring to Aamir's films Aatank Hi Aatank (1995), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Ghulam (1998), and Laal Singh Chaddha respectively. However, several others also defended Aamir. 'Official remake hai bhai toh of course usme konsi nayi baat hai (If it's an official remake, then what's the harm?),' wrote a Redditor. 'You're acting like people in India have all seen Champions and it's a massive hit here. No one gives a shit if it's a remake as no one has seen the original, all that matters is if it's a good film,' argued another. Meanwhile, Sitaare Zameen Par, which will launch 10 newcomers as the mentally challenged kids, also stars Dolly Ahluwalia as Aamir's mother. Sitaare Zameen Par is slated to release in cinemas on June 20.
