How many new trains has Centre introduced to improve regional connectivity in last one year?
Indian Railways new trains: Indian Railways (IR) is considered as the backbone of the national economy. In recent years, it has undertaken several initiatives to enhance connectivity, including the introduction of new trains, track doubling and expansion, and the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs). Apart from these, the national transporter is also actively redeveloping stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Since the railway network spans across state boundaries, train services are introduced based on operational requirements across various regions. This raise an interesting question: how many new trains have been introduced in the past year? The question surfaced after Rajya Sabha MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni asked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for details on the number of new trains launched over the last year. She also sought information on how many trains pass through Maharashtra, particularly Pune city. In response, Vaishnaw on Friday (July 25, 2025) informed that Indian Railways introduced a total of 182 new train services during the period 2024–25 and 2025–26 (up to June 2025). With the launch of these new trains, the regional connectivity has improved further. 'To cater to the needs of passengers, IR, during 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 (upto June,2025 ) have introduced 182 train services of which the following 20 train services, on originating/Terminating basis, are catering to the needs of stations located in the State of Maharashtra…,' the minister added. The minister also stated that a new train will be introduced between Pune and Rewa. He also stated that CSMT-Jalna Vande Bharat train will be extended. '…it has also been decided to introduce a new train between Pune and Rewa [with commercial stoppages inter alia at Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Akola, Bhusaval, Manmad, Kopargaon, Ahmednagar, Daund] and to extend 20705/20706 Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj (T) – Jalna Vande Bharat Express (six days a week) upto Hazur Sahib Nanded,' he said. The Railway Minister also noted that Pune, Nasik and Aurangabad are presently being served by 291, 155 and 62 train services, respectively. 'Moreover, introduction of new train services is an ongoing process on Indian Railways subject to traffic justification, operational feasibility, resource availability, etc,' Vaishnaw added. Residents riled over civic body's nonchalance in tackling flooding
Hyderabad: Residents of areas residing near the Railway under Bridges (RuBs) face immense loss as they are inundated during every heavy downpour. Residents urged the civic body for the permanent fixation of the water inundation issue at RUBs. Each year, monsoon brings immense losses for the residents, especially those residing near the RuBs. The water from the nala is inundating the streets and entering into houses. The residents of Malakpet, Azampura, Yakutpura, and Talab Katta, residing near the RUBs in the GHMC Charminar zone, have been facing innumerable difficulties during rains. A nala situated beside these four RuBs is resulting in overflow and inundation of the surrounding area. Around three to four feet of rainwater inundate these RUBs and were closed to the traffic. Several areas, like Talab Katta RuB and its surroundings, Yakutpura, Ganga Nagar, Azampura, and Malakpet, are in waters up to four feet and above in each heavy rain. Also, the RuBs located in Lingampally, Katedan, Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Alugadda Bavi, Bible Track and other under bridges have been inundated in every monsoon, but no permanent solution has been taken by the civic body. Mohammed Ahmed, a local activist said 'It has been observed that the nalas, which have become narrower owing to haphazard construction activity, now face the real problem even as huge quantities of waste can be seen floating on the surface, causing the inundation of these RuBs and surrounding areas. With no seriousness by the civic body in clearing the debris and desilting nalas, it overflows and inundates at RuB.' Ahmed said that for the last several years, several projects have been taken up, but only temporary solutions were found by the authorities. 'I fear that the condition of these areas will be the same as in previous years. In recent rains, these RuBs have again inundated at least four feet, and traffic was halted for hours. Traffic was cleared after the water was drained,' said Ahmed. According to the residents, these RuBs and surrounding areas have been inundated in each monsoon, but no permanent solution has been taken by the civic body. Even during this monsoon, the situation is the same, and we residents are the ones who suffer,' said Chandrashekar, a resident of Chaderghat. In early monsoon heavy rains, the water enters the house which damages the furniture, electronics and other household items, says Shahid Ali another resident. As a part of the monsoon action plan, the desilting works were completed in these nalas, but the civic body has to desilt the nala in depth so that the water flows freely during heavy downpours. But the GHMC is only doing temporary works by desilting hardly two feet in each nala and keeping the debris aside, which is causing the water to log in RuBs and the localities to be inundated,' emphasised Ahmed. The local authority said that several works were taken up to solve the inundation issue, however, the RuB falls under both the civic body and railways. The works related to the civic body were completed to ensure water inundation.

Railways Brings New Safety Measures At Crossing After 3 Killed In Tamil Nadu
Chennai: A day after three students were killed and six others injured when a school van carrying them was hit by a train at a railway-level crossing in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore, the Railways has announced a set of safety measures to prevent similar tragedies across the country. Witnesses alleged that the gate was open when the train passed, raising concerns about operational negligence. Following a high-level meeting chaired by the Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the ministry has rolled out 11 key measures for immediate implementation. What are the key measures? CCTV cameras, supported by power backups via solar, UPS, and batteries, will be installed at all Level Crossing (LC) gates to gather real-time evidence. The threshold for interlocking gates will be lowered from 20,000 to 10,000 Train Vehicle Units (TVU), enabling them to function smoothly at high-speed crossings. Voice recordings from at least two non-interlocked gates per division will be randomly audited daily to ensure accountability and adherence to safety protocols. Speed breakers and warning signs at all LC gates will be regulated, with new designs to enhance visibility and compliance. RPF and Home Guard personnel will be deployed at conflict-prone LC gate areas where gatekeepers face pressure or resistance from the public. A Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Home Guard personnel will be deployed at the LC gates where gatekeepers face pressure or resistance from the public. Construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs), Road Under Bridges (RUBs), and Limited Height Subways (LHS) will be accelerated to eliminate level crossings wherever feasible. The Railways Ministry yesterday announced a 15-day safety inspection drive focusing on LC gates in block sections across India. The railways said that a preliminary investigation has revealed that while the gatekeeper proceeded to close the gate, the van driver insisted on allowing the vehicle to cross, which "should not have been permitted". A case of negligence has been registered against the gatekeeper; however, the exact sequence of events is under investigation.
