Manipur 's high-endurance ultra-cyclist John Khammuanlal Gwite has made history in Poland by finishing the ' Race Around Poland ' in 237 hours and joining an elite club of ultra-cycling legends like Christoph Strasser and Marko Baloh, TOI reported. At a time when Manipur is in turmoil and uncertainty, Gwite has displayed tremendous mental strength and shown that Indian riders can match the best in this gruelling sport. He became the first Indian to complete the competition within 10 days, breaking the previous Indian record 274 hours. Gwite had completed the iconic ' Paris-Brest-Paris ' in an impressive 59 hours two years ago. He now aims to participate in the ' Race Across America (Raam)', a 3,000-mile ultra-endurance cycling race across the US. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 유독 심했던 무릎 관절통... 알고나니 간단하네요 큰딸민지 더 알아보기 Undo Ultra-cycling is a sport where the cyclist goes solo without team cars, external nutrition or mechanical support. The Poland race is considered as one of Europe's most unforgiving endurance tests. It is an unsupported ride spanning 3,600 km and an elevation gain of over 31,000 metres. This year's event was also the World Ultra Cycling Championships , with over 60 elite riders from across the globe. Live Events 'The climbs were brutal with over 30,000 metres of elevation, and we were not prepared for the chilling cold at night,' Gwite told TOI. 'I wasn't carrying any winter gear, and in the late-night hours, it was the toughest. I had to modify my strategy, get polythene from local shops and make it into a vest and knee warmers. That small improvisation probably saved my ride,' he said. The 37-year-old considers the finish as the culmination of years of quiet, gruelling preparation. In 2023, Gwite finished 'Paris-Brest-Paris', called the Olympics of ultra-cycling, covering 1,229 km in just 59 hours to secure a global rank of 248 among nearly 9,000 cyclists. In 2022, he completed the 'London-Edinburgh-London' ride, a 1,535 km in 110 hours, and cemented his credentials as one of India's most accomplished ultra-distance cyclists. Over the last decade, Gwite has 19 Super Randonneur titles, completing some of the harshest rides across the subcontinent, including the 'Trans-Himalaya 1200' and the 'Wagah-to-Kanyakumari' expeditions. 'End of the day, it's about how one prioritises life,' he said. 'It doesn't help thinking constantly of issues back home, but to keep oneself healthy is the best way to help my society and country.' With the extraordinary achievement in Poland, Gwite qualified for the iconic Raam, which is considered as the pinnacle of ultra-cycling. The challenge ahead is as much logistical as physical. 'The 'Race Across America' is super expensive. Unless you get proper support, it's difficult to do it on your own. I have qualified and the idea is to definitely go. But this is not a Rs 10 or Rs 20 lakh budget. You need a proper crew including a doctor, nurse, and physiotherapist. For Raam, we can't randomly pick people; we need a team that understands the race,' Gwite said.

He became the first Indian to complete the event in under 10 days, bettering the previous Indian mark of 274 hours. Two years ago, Gwite completed the legendary 'Paris-Brest-Paris' in an impressive 59 hours, and now, harbours the desire to participate in the 'Race Across America (Raam)', a 3,000-mile ultra-endurance cycling race across the US. Ultra-cycling is a solo port with no team cars, external nutrition or mechanical support, and the Poland race is widely regarded as one of Europe's most unforgiving endurance tests — an unsupported ride spanning 3,600 km and an elevation gain of over 31,000 metres. The 2025 edition of the race doubled as the World Ultra Cycling Championships, drawing over 60 elite riders from across the globe. Over the past decade, Gwite has amassed 19 Super Randonneur titles and tackled some of the harshest rides across the subcontinent, including the 'Trans-Himalaya 1200' and the 'Wagah-to-Kanyakumari' expeditions. 'End of the day, it's about how one prioritises life,' he said. 'It doesn't help thinking constantly of issues back home, but to keep oneself healthy is the best way to help my society and country.' Gwite's achievement in Poland also serves as a qualifier for the iconic Raam, often considered the pinnacle of ultra-cycling. But the challenge ahead is as much logistical as physical. For Raam, we can't randomly pick people; we need a team that understands the race,' Gwite said. For a sport largely invisible in India's cricket-dominated landscape, his solitary rides have become quiet symbols of grit and possibility, showing what determination can achieve even in the face of overwhelming odds.

Meet F-15I Raam, F-16I Sufa and F-35I Adir, Israel's fighter jets that devastated Khamenei's Iran; read details inside
New Delhi: The devastation that happened in Iran last night was not the result of just one attack, but the result of the combination of three dangerous fighter planes. Israel carried out a massive airstrike targeting Iran's missile bases, nuclear sites and military leadership. This attack included advanced fighter jets like F-15I Raam, F-16I Sufa and F-35I Adir. These planes successfully accomplished their mission by dodging Iran's defense system. The trusted partner of the Israeli Air Force is F-15I Raam, which is based on America's F-15E Strike Eagle. This aircraft plays a dual role. It fights the enemy in the air and destroys ground targets simultaneously. Its range is up to 2,700 miles and it can carry up to 18,000 pounds of weapons. F-15I Raam The biggest strength of F-15I is its ability to drop bunker buster bombs. This is the reason why it was chosen to attack Iran's underground nuclear bases. This aircraft can destroy even deeply hidden hideouts with GPS guided JDAM bombs without coming in the enemy's sight. F-16I Sufa F-16I Soufa is based on F-16D Block 52, which has been specially customized for Israel. Two pilots sit in it. One for flight operations and the other for weapon control. Conformal fuel tanks have been installed to increase its range. This allows it to fly long distances without stopping. The specialty of Sufa is its advanced targeting system which can find the enemy even at night. The LANTIRN and Litening pods fitted in it enable it to launch an all-weather precision attack. Sufa played an important role in destroying Iran's bunker-like bases and mobile launch sites. F-35I Adir F-35I Adir is a stealth fighter jet capable of evading radar. This is the Israeli version of America's F-35A, in which Israel has added its own electronic systems and weapons. It is a multi-role fighter jet that can do all three – surveillance, attack and electronic warfare. Adir was the best choice to dodge Iran's strong air defense system. Its stealth technology and precision attack capability brought it into the main role. It can penetrate deep and complete the operation without coming into the enemy's sight. Flying together, these aircraft completely destroyed many important bases of Iran with advanced bombs like JDAMs and SDBs. The attack was carried out late at night when Iranian radar and air defense are in a weak state. In this operation, first F-35I did surveillance and electronic jamming, then Sufa and Raam attacked the targets.

The Shri Sita Raam Mandhir. Image: Supplied The Shri Sita Raam Mandhir in Crossmoor, Chatsworth, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a three-day festival featuring cultural performances, spiritual discourses, and community activities. The festival will be held from Friday until Sunday. On Friday and Saturday, there will be a Raam Katha (discourse on Lord Raam) by pundits from the community. Preshen Lalbahadur, the youth committee leader, who joined the temple at age six, said: 'At our large public prayers, we can expect attendance of over 500. I'm excited to see the temple turn 50, especially since I grew up with the temple organisation, and 50 is a significant milestone. "While we reflect on the past five decades, we also look forward to the next 50 years. This celebration adds a sense of responsibility to the next generation to see that through." 'On Saturday evening, there will be a small fireworks display. The public will be allowed to offer a lamp (diya) and then join in for a garba dance. On Sunday, the public will be allowed to make offerings to Gow mata. Entertainment will also be provided by Flash Entertainers on Sunday." In addition, he said there would be a children's corner and meals would be provided over the three days. Lalbahadur said the Shri Sita Raam Mandhir was a temple "built by the community for the community". 'People should attend to celebrate the success of ordinary South African citizens in the community of Crossmoor, who have built this temple from the ground up. This is a testament to the will-power, resilience, diligence, devotion and perseverance of a community that has faced numerous challenges over the years, but have found a way to congregate and build something spectacular, that can be celebrated by all,' said Lalbahadur.
