‘Ee sala cup namde' to ‘Ee sala cup namdu' — internet resonates with RCB's journey

For over a decade now, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had been the subject of memes and mockery online. From the iconic 'Ee sala cup namde' to posts about RCB fans buying calculators to check if their team qualified for playoffs, the internet has had its own share of meme fest across the 18 editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). When RCB finally lifted the coveted trophy on June 3, it was only natural that the internet had one too many things to say about it. The significant one was shared by the team's ex-player AB de Villiers, who joined the celebrations saying 'Ee sala cup namdu', replacing the war cry of the fans throughout the seasons. The word 'namde', which indicates a prediction, was replaced with 'namdu', which indicates ownership. Most people who are active fans of the team online also belong to Generation Z, who were less than 10 years old when IPL began. Their memes and posts came with a sense of nostalgia with callbacks to ex-players of the franchise, including Bengaluru's own Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble, among others. Popular Kannada content creator who goes by the name Vickypedia put out a video titled 'Finally Ee sari cup namde', which attracted more than a million views on Instagram. Another popular creator who goes by Gommaboy, who had been creating videos throughout the season about the team's performance, put out a funny video which also included an ode to the fans loyalty saying 'jerseys changed, captains changed, but RCB fans loyalty did not'. The fans also joked about the fact that RCB waited till it was '18 years old' (as this was the 18th edition) to lift the trophy and celebrate, as 18 years is considered as the legal age in India for one to be recognised as an adult. Even the Election Commission of India jumped on the meme wagon and urged the citizens to not wait to register to vote if they are 18 years old. Other than these, the video edits of Virat Kohli, who is lovingly called 'King Kohli' by the fans, with emotional songs, many Kannada pop culture references, the image of the 'Trinity' of Kohli, de Villers and Chris Gayle, were some of the other posts that were circulating on the internet.

From RCB in 2008 to KKR in 2025: IPL teams that failed to build 50-plus opening partnership in a season

Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR ) ended their disappointing IPL 2025 season with a crushing 110-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Chasing 279, KKR were bowled out for just 168. The highlight of the match was Heinrich Klaasen 's unbeaten century. This was KKR's biggest defeat in IPL history in terms of runs. Another low point? They didn't manage a single 50-plus opening partnership the whole season. 1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2008 According to Cricbuzz, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) failed to put together a 50-plus opening stand in the very first IPL season in 2008. RCB, led by Rahul Dravid , played in the first-ever IPL match against KKR. They tried many opening combinations, including a young Virat Kohli , but none worked out. Live Events Their highest opening stand that season was just 37. They finished second from the bottom, winning only four games. 2. Delhi Capitals in 2010 Two years later, Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils) had a similar experience in IPL 2010. Despite having top players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and David Warner, they couldn't put together a strong opening partnership. They finished fifth with 14 points, narrowly missing the playoffs. 3. Kolkata Knight Riders in 2025 And now in 2025, KKR have joined this unwanted list. They went through the entire season without a 50-plus stand at the top. Their main openers, Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine , failed to build momentum. KKR also tried Rahmanullah Gurbaz, but nothing seemed to click. Inputs from agencies

What Does Rahul Dravid Write In His Notebook? RR Coach Shares The Big Secret

The Rajasthan Royals brought an end to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign with a victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday. RR ended the season with 4 wins and 10 defeats to their name, giving head coach Rahul Dravid plenty to ponder on ahead of the next campaign. Over the course of the season, Dravid was seen taking notes quite extensively in his notebook while sitting in the dugout. As the campaign ends for his team, Dravid shared the 'secrets' behind the act and what exactly he writes about. "I have a particular way of scoring a game, both the T20 game and the one-day game. I just have a particular way of scoring it, which actually helps me review the game. So I can look at a scorecard, but I just score it in a particular way that I find very comfortable and easy to be able to review without looking at the scorecard. Sometimes you're sitting back in your room at the end of a game, and you want to review the game and think, okay, what happened in that over or what happened in that particular phase of the game," he told Star Sports as RR ended the season with a victory against 5-time champions CSK. Usually, coaches are seen making notes of incidents, shot selections, and strategic calls in their notebooks. But, that isn't the case with Dravid. The former India captain uses his notebook to write scores, encapsulating the essence of the game in different moments. "So it's just a simple score. It's nothing complex. It's not rocket science. I'm not writing some great truths or anything there. It's honestly as boring or as dumb as you can say-just scoring the game in a particular format that makes it easier for me to look back on it. I'm not particularly writing actual incidents or stuff, but it's more a score and it keeps me involved first, and then, as I said, it allows me to go back and review it a bit," the former India head coach added. Vaibhav Suryavanshi knows how to handle fame at 14 years after IPL success: ‘500 missed calls, but switched off phone'

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is one of the hot topics in Indian cricket currently after the 14-year-old's heroics at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Although Rajasthan Royals ended their season with just four wins from 14 games, Suryavanshi became one of the young talents to emerge and perform with the big boys in the world's top league. Having already grabbed the limelight during the IPL 2025 mega auction last year when he became the youngest to be picked in the tournament, the teenager from Bihar's Samastipur had to warm the bench for the first seven games. He finally got his opportunity when captain Sanju Samson had to sit out due to injury. The left-hander had an instant impact, blazing away to a 35-ball hundred to become the youngest-ever IPL centurion. On Tuesday, Suryavanshi ended his maiden IPL campaign with 252 runs from seven games with an impressive strike rate of over 200. Success in IPL comes with instant fame, attention and money. One needs to know how to balance everything without hampering one's own game. Suryavanshi was also asked the same by Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid after the youngster's fifty helped the 2008 champions beat Chennai Super Kings to end the season on a high. In response to Dravid's question of how many people called him after his maiden IPL ton against Gujarat Titans, Suryavanshi replied, 'There were more than 500 missed calls, but I've switched off the phone.' The Rajasthan Royals opener also reveals that he doesn't like too many people around him. "A lot of people approached me after the century, but I don't like that a lot. I kept my phone switched off for 2-4 days. I don't like having too many people around. Just my family and a few friends, that's enough," added India's rising star. With his IPL 2025 campaign done and dusted, Suryavanshi will now depart for his India U-19 camp. With the likes of Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour around him, Suryavanshi has two of the best mentors at his disposal. Dravid even spoke about how the bowlers will come hard at him next season when he walks out to bat.

Rahul Dravid Loses Cool After RR's 10th Defeat Of IPL 2025 Season, Says "There's No Point..."

In a season filled with high hopes and significant challenges, Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid has openly expressed his disappointment following the team's recent defeat to Punjab Kings. This loss marks RR's tenth in the IPL 2025 season, positioning them ninth on the points table. Dravid highlighted issues across all departments, emphasising that the team's performance has not met expectations. Despite a promising start to the season, including a standout century by young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi, RR has struggled to maintain consistency, particularly in death bowling and middle-order batting. After RR's 8-wicket loss to Punjab Kings, Dravid acknowledged the team's shortcomings, stating, "There's no point just blaming the batsman. I think with the ball also, to be honest, I didn't think it was a 220 wicket, it was about a 195, 200 wicket, and we gave 20 runs extra." 'If we look at the numbers, we have probably not been good enough with the ball. Both at taking wickets and controlling runs. We are chasing 200-220 every game,' he added. He pointed out that conceding extra runs has been a recurring issue, making it challenging for the batting unit to chase down high totals. Dravid also noted that the team has often found itself in good positions but failed to capitalise, particularly in the lower-middle order, where big shots have been lacking. "It's been a tough one. We've got close, but we haven't been able to finish the job. It's been one of those kind of seasons where you always feel with the ball that we probably give 15-20 runs extra and then you've got yourself in some really good positions to win the games, but we haven't been able to finish the job and a little bit around that lower, lower-middle order we just haven't been able to click and get the big shots that we need,' admitted Dravid. RR's death bowling has been a significant concern throughout the season. In matches against Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals, the team conceded over 70 runs in the final five overs, highlighting the need for better execution in the closing stages of the game. Dravid emphasised that while the plans have been sound, the execution has fallen short, leading to unfavorable outcomes. The team's performance has drawn criticism from cricketing greats, including Sunil Gavaskar, who expressed his confusion over RR's lack of strategic play, especially under Dravid's guidance. Gavaskar remarked, "With someone like Rahul Dravid as the coach, it was quite baffling, it was unthinking cricket." He questioned the team's decision-making and approach during crucial moments, suggesting a deeper flaw in their strategy. Despite the team's struggles, young prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been a bright spot. The 14-year-old made headlines with a 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans, showcasing his immense potential. However, he also faced setbacks, including a two-ball duck against Mumbai Indians, underscoring the highs and lows of professional cricket. Dravid has urged for realistic expectations regarding Suryavanshi's performance, emphasizing the importance of supporting young talent through both successes and challenges. "I mean, it's been five games now where the margins have really one or two hits which you need in that phase, which we just haven't been able to do,' said Dravid after the game. 'So it's not that we've been losing too many wickets, we're still only five down today, but we just haven't been able to hit those shots.' As RR prepares for their final match of the season against Chennai Super Kings, the focus shifts to salvaging pride and avoiding the bottom spot on the table. Dravid's leadership and experience will be crucial in guiding the team through this challenging period. The season's outcomes highlight the need for introspection and strategic adjustments to build a more resilient and consistent team in future campaigns. Listen to the latest songs, only on
