Partition horrors remembrance day observed in Ranchi
Ranchi: Ranchi marked partition horrors remembrance day on Thursday with a lecture and exhibition at Doranda College, where students engaged in preserving and reflecting on the memories of 1947. Organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Ranchi Regional Centre, the event aimed to deepen public understanding of the partition's scale and its lasting impact. Attendees explored archival photographs, letters, and survivor accounts, prompting discussions on the human cost of division and need to protect social harmony. College principal Raj Kumar Sharma said, "We must remind younger generations of the cost of freedom and the true meaning of dharma, which is vital for national unity." Partition survivor Balbir Dutt recounted harrowing memories. "We saw trains arriving from Lahore to Amritsar with only bodies. The tragedy uprooted 1.5 crore people and claimed up to 20 lakh lives. It was the outcome of a British imperialist conspiracy, and we must guard against similar divisive tactics today," he added. Ranchi University vice-chancellor Dharmendra Kumar Singh said, "Our strength lies in respecting all faiths while embracing analytical and scientific thinking. We cannot allow religious hatred to take root." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). FIR against IIT(BHU) hosteller for voyeurism
Varanasi: Lanka police lodged FIR against an MTech student of IIT(BHU) under section 66E of the IT Act for allegedly making videos surreptitiously of inmates of his hostel taking a shower. Lanka police said a named FIR against the student was lodged on complaint of his fellow hosteller, representing 37 hostel inmates. Inspector Lanka Raj Kumar Sharma said on Thursday that the case was registered and the process of collecting evidence for investigation had begun. The committee formed by the institute, which confiscated the accused student's mobile and laptop before ousting him from the hostel, could not complete its investigation, said chief proctor Sanjay Singh. He mentioned that the student, who caught his batchmate filming a video when he was in the bathroom on Jul 7, denied making a police complaint and had left the matter for IIT(BHU) administration to investigate and take necessary action. But other inmates of the hostel, who doubted that their videos had been made too, decided to lodge police complaint, in which they said they were all MTech students and lived in rooms on the eighth, ninth, and 10th floors of PC Ray hostel on the institute campus. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo They said they were sure that the accused had been making videos of the inmates bathing for a long time and suspected that many students had been targeted. They added that when the caretaker apprehended the accused, as many as seven such videos were found in his mobile phone. The chief proctor said after being caught red-handed filming the video of his batchmate in the bathroom on Jul 7, he was ousted from the hostel immediately after confiscation of his mobile phone and laptop. These were handed over to the chief security information officer, who is also an expert in cyber issues, for inspection. The institution's discipline committee also started investigating the matter. Chief proctor noted that nothing objectionable was found on the laptop, but the mobile phone contained the videos. Their verification is ongoing to determine whether such videos were recorded inside the hostel and transferred or uploaded elsewhere. The investigation was continuing and each video was being reviewed to determine its origin, said the chief proctor.

NEW DELHI: For a decade, Delhi Police's Crime Branch had been chasing notorious conman Raj Kumar Sharma, wanted in multiple cases of cheating and forgery. The accused had disappeared, leaving deceit and financial crimes in his wake.
