MNS Workers Force Removal of Gujarati Display Board at BJP MLA's Office At Mumbai

Last Updated: A Gujarati display board at Gujarat BJP MLA's office was removed under police supervision after protests led by MNS and other parties, demanding a Marathi board. Marathi language row continues to aggravate in Maharashtra, now, a Gujarati display board at the office of a Gujarat BJP MLA's office was forced to be removed. Workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and from other political parties forced the removal outside the public relations office of Virendrasinh Bahadursinh Jadeja, who represents Rapar assembly constituency in Gujarat. The board was removed under police supervision. MNS gave an ultimatum for the removal of the board last week. A protest march led by MNS Navi Mumbai City Secretary Sachin Kadam, along with leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), reached the NRI Sagari police station demanding the removal of a Gujarati board. The delegation insisted on replacing it with a Marathi one and called for action against those who 'insulted" the Marathi identity. Senior police inspector Sunil Kadam assured the delegation that the contentious board would be removed immediately. Following this assurance, MNS leaders and supporters went to the BJP office, where, under police supervision, the Gujarati plaque was taken down. Case In Supreme Court The Marathi row has reached the Supreme Court with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) being filed against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for allegedly inciting violence against Hindi-speaking people and language-based hatred. A lawyer, Advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay, filed the plea. He is seeking FIR against Raj Thackeray and his party workers, according to news agency ANI. view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 19:24 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. "Aren't You From Hindustan?" Woman's Retort When Told To Speak In Marathi

Mumbai: Another incident of a group of people forcing individuals to speak in Marathi has been reported from Mumbai's Ghatkopar. This time, a group of men surrounded a woman and shouted at her to speak in Marathi. A video of the incident has surfaced. The woman, identified as Sanjira Devi, was standing in front of her house when she saw that the men had blocked the way. When she asked them to give some space, they told her to speak in Marathi. She refused. Thus began the heated exchange. "Speak in Marathi. This is Maharashtra," one of the men said, raising his finger near her face. The others continued to shout at her. "No, you talk in Hindi. Tell me, aren't you a Hindustani? Aren't you from Hindustan?" she said. "Maharashtra, Maharashtra," the man replied. A crowd began to build up around them and somebody called the police. By the time they arrived, the men had left. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has been on the forefront of the speak-in-Marathi street campaign that usually involves threatening people, especially those who have come to Maharashtra, to speak in the local language. While this has been something that MNS workers have been doing for a long time, the first attack over not speaking Marathi in recent times happened when MNS workers thrashed a shopkeeper near Mumbai for not speaking Marathi. Earlier this month, the glass door of the office of share market investor Sushil Kedia was vandalised after he declared he wouldn't speak Marathi. All these incidents also came amid allegations of the state government "imposing" Hindi language in Maharashtra under the three-language formula of the National Education Policy (NEP). MNS chief Raj Thackeray and his cousin Uddhav Thackeray held a "victory" rally on July 5 and reunited after 20 years.

‘Even Muslims are happy after Raj Thackeray and I were seen together': Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has said that not just Marathi manoos (people) but people from other linguistic communities and even Muslims were expressing their joy after he and his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray were seen together at a recent political event. Uddhav Thackeray's reaction came during an interview with Saamana editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut. The second part of the interview was published by the Sena (UBT) mouthpiece on Sunday. 'As both of us have come together, who's got the problem? If they have a problem, they should sort it out on their end. Why should we think about it? 'Gujarati people and those from the Hindi belt also said, 'Achcha kiya aapne (You did the right thing).' If anyone is finding it difficult to digest, then I am not paying attention to it,' Uddhav Thackeray said when asked about joining hands with Raj Thackeray after 20 years. Speaking about the 'victory rally' jointly organised by the MNS and the Shiv Sena (UBT) earlier this month in the wake of the state government withdrawing the order making Hindi the compulsory third language in Maharashtra schools, Uddhav Thackeray said, 'The rally was not about Maharashtra versus other states. Even people from other states have appreciated our coming together. They have urged us to keep fighting in this manner.' Meanwhile, urging Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take action against 'errant' ministers, the Sena (UBT) chief said, 'Whether we agree or not, he is the chief minister. We expect good things will happen from him. We expect him to take strong action against his errant ministers. One after another, the ministers are found doing things that reflect badly on the government. It is affecting the image of the chief minister…' In 2005, Raj Thackeray quit the undivided Shiv Sena, a party founded by his uncle Bal Thackeray, after reportedly feeling sidelined. Thereafter, he launched the MNS in March 2006.

Raj and I together will fulfil Maharashtra's dream, right decision will be taken at right time: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Even as MNS chief Raj Thackeray maintained a studied silence on an alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT) after their 'victory rally' this month, Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday reiterated that the two cousins are together. "Whoever has a problem with two brothers coming together should deal with it. We will fulfil Maharashtra's dream together. The right decision will be taken at the right time," Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav said in an interview with the party newspaper Saamna on Sunday. When asked if any talks were held on the two coming together politically, he said, "Talks will happen. We came together after 20 years. That's not a small thing. I am ready to do whatever is necessary for the Marathi people, language, and the culture of Maharashtra." He added, "As a result of us coming together, not only are the Marathi people happy, but so are those who speak other languages. If that's the case, that's what we will do." Clearing the air about his recent meeting with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state legislature, Uddhav said, "I went to meet him. After all, he is the chief minister, and we hope he does some good. But as a former political ally, I can only advise him to put an end to the controversies surrounding his ministerial colleagues. Finally, it will affect Fadnavis's reputation." On the controversy over the imposition of Hindi in schools, he said, "BJP is instigating divisions between different states. But our position is clear. We are not against Hindi, but we do not want it to be imposed on us." Attacking BJP, Uddhav said his party was split in order to hand over the ownership of Mumbai to the Adani group. "Land in Dharavi has been handed over to the Adani group. Why are the mill workers not given free land?" he asked. He further said that the Maharashtra Public Security Bill, which was recently passed by the state legislature, would prevent justice for the public of Dharavi. "The people who ask for their rights in Dharavi will go to jail. That's what this law is about." Uddhav also took a dig at the possibility of PM Modi retiring at the age of 75. "He may even announce his retirement. Then he will say, 'how can I break people's hearts', and he will resume. People will be brought onto the streets, and there will be nautanki." Criticising the central govt over the Pahalgam terrorist attack, he asked: "The question is how did this attack happen, and how did the terrorist venture so deep inside? And after three months, why have they not even been traced?" He also said the public needed to be told why Operation Sindoor was called off. "The US President repeatedly says he stopped the war between India and Pakistan. And our brave PM is silent."
