KSU demands faculty's removal after sexual assault case against him
Kochi: KSU unit at Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, has demanded removal of Jineesh P S, a faculty member in the department of history, following a sexual assault case filed against him, on Friday. A former student of Govt College Madappally, Vadakara, where he previously served, has filed the case. Chompala police had earlier registered a case in connection with the alleged incident. The survivor reportedly made a social media post garnering attention on the matter. KSU leaders accused the college administration of shielding the accused because of his association with Association of Kerala Govt College Teachers (AKGCT). "As the accused holds significant influence in the teachers' body, the administration is trying to protect him. Such actions lead to criminally accused staff to receive protection at the institution," KSU unit president Rajeev alleged. KSU leaders said the complaint was filed with higher education department as retaining a faculty member facing such grave charges compromises the safety and integrity of the campus. We know the relationship between a football fan and their club is a special one so, as we gear up for the new season, we asked you to share why you fell in love with Chelsea and some of your favourite moments supporting are some of your submissions: Rajeev: Being Indian, I've always loved packed stadiums - whether it is cricket, rugby or football. I only watched the World Cups and the Euros until 2006. Then, thanks to my Arsenal fan friend and my Manchester United-supporting brother, I got hooked on the Premier League. That season the top four were Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and stood out - they were second place and I've always liked teams chasing the top spot. I also dislike red jerseys, so blue felt perfect. I was amazed to see so many national captains at Chelsea. That's when I knew this was my club. Send your pictures and stories here

100 investment meet projects have reached work stage: Minister Rajeev
Kochi, Aug 4 (PTI) A total of 100 projects, out of 429 yielded by Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS) held in February, are under way in different parts of the state, demonstrating the resounding success of the initiative, state Industries Minister P Rajeev said here on Monday. The minister was addressing the Investors Conclave convened here to ascertain the status of the proposals that came up at IKGS. Over 200 investors turned up for the meet. 'By the end of August, the number of the projects reaching the implementation stage will cross 100. This means 21 per cent of realisation so far. This must be the biggest strike rate of any investment meet held in the country. We are trying to raise this to 50 per cent soon", the minister is quoted as saying in an official release. Asking investors to come out with their views, suggestions and grievances, he said this conclave was meant to hear directly from the investors whether they are facing any hurdle in going ahead with their projects, so that the government could step in to address them. As many as 20 investors pointed out some of the issues faced by them. The minister assured that each of these issues would be addressed without any delay. Rajeev said, if necessary, ministerial level meetings will be held to address issues involving different departments. He also made calls with the field officials to ascertain the status of some of the issues that came up at the meet from the dias itself. The investors present expressed satisfaction at the cooperation from officials of the industries department agencies like KSIDC, KINFRA and Directorate of Industries, the release said. Bail for Kerala nuns a feather in the political cap of BJP and Rajeev?
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The release of the two Catholic nuns after nine days of imprisonment in Chhattisgarh has come as a relief for both the Church and the state BJP. The fact that it was realised following the intervention of the prime minister's office (PMO) is being viewed as a feather in party state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar's political cap. TNIE was the first to report the PMO's intervention. The entire episode is now expected to function as a catalyst in Rajeev's efforts to intensify his party's Christian outreach programme in central Kerala in the coming days. For the Catholic Church, with its larger interest in the pan-Indian socio-political sphere, it has reiterated the need for friends in high places, especially in times of crises. 'In that sense the whole episode has been a give-and-take,' a Church official told on condition of anonymity. If the mission had failed it would have cast a shadow on Rajeev. It ended up proving his close ties to the corridors of power in Delhi.
