The Indian cricket team, currently in London after their match at Lord's, recently had a special meeting with King Charles. While many famous faces were there, it was Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who grabbed the spotlight. Shukla gave King Charles his book, Scars of 1947: Real Partition Stories, as a gift and shared the moment on social media. This caught a lot of attention online, as fans quickly turned the post into jokes and memes. Many even asked Shukla to bring back the Kohinoor diamond. Others made fun of his choice of gift for the British king. After the last test at Lord's, the cricket team visited Clarence House. Along with the players and coaching staff, BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia was also present. Sharing a picture with the member of the Royal Family on X (Formerly Twitter), Shukla wrote, 'Presented my book Scars of 1947 to King Charles at St James Palace, his house. He took a lot of interest in the content of the book." Presented my book scars of 1947 to King Charles at palace his house. He took lot of interest in content of the book. — Rajeev Shukla (@ShuklaRajiv) July 15, 2025 Another shared, 'Sir, I strongly believe only you can get our Kohinoor back." 'Gifting a book to the king of Britain on the scars given by the Britishers to the Indians, damn shukla ji," a comment read. And then posted his reaction on X." Another mentioned, 'Chad Shukla ji. Gave a gora a book about the atrocities done by their forefathers." One more added, 'Wherever it is, Rajiv Shukla is Certain to be there. What kind of magic he knows that he can manage to be everywhere." BCCI mulls replacement series after Bangladesh tour postponed

After the white-ball bilateral series against Bangladesh was postponed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated conversations with multiple cricket boards to hold a bilateral series in the 'suddenly found window'. Sri Lankan media reported that talks are currently ongoing regarding a limited-overs series in mid-August. However, Sportstar understands that the BCCI is in conversation with a few other boards, including England, to figure out the possibility of conducting a series in the same window. However, the Board is yet to decide on whether to settle for a bilateral series or conduct a tri-nation tournament at a neutral venue. 'There have generally been discussions with a few cricket boards, but it would all depend on the government's decision on the Asia Cup,' say those tracking developments. The biggest threat to the Asia Cup is the worsening relationship between India and Pakistan following border tensions earlier this year. However, with the Indian government recently granting clearance for the Pakistan hockey team to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup in Rajgir and the FIH men's Junior World Cup in Tamil Nadu, the BCCI awaits a formal decision. If the Asia Cup takes place in the UAE, the BCCI might have to settle for a bilateral series in August. 'Now with no Bangladesh series, there is a long gap and the BCCI wants to ensure that the players have game time, and that's why a new limited-overs series is being explored,' the source indicated. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to decide on the future of the Asia Cup during its meeting in Dhaka on July 24. However, given the prevailing political tensions in Bangladesh - which was also one of the reasons behind the postponement of the series - it is uncertain whether the BCCI will send its officials to Dhaka for the meeting or requests for a change in venue. Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar are the BCCI's representatives in the ACC. Shukla, the BCCI vice-president and Congress Rajya Sabha MP, is in the Board of Directors, and Shelar, former treasurer of the BCCI, is an Executive Board Member of the continental body. Bengaluru Stampede Tragedy: BCCI Issues Strict New Guidelines For IPL Title Celebrations

In response to the tragic stampede that occurred in Bengaluru last month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to introduce strict regulations regarding IPL victory parades and celebratory events. The move comes after 11 people lost their lives and many others were injured during a chaotic crowd incident that followed Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) historic IPL title win. Bengaluru Stampede Shakes Cricket Community The disaster unfolded outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium just hours after RCB clinched their maiden IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings. Massive crowds gathered at multiple events organized to celebrate the win, overwhelming the city's infrastructure. The result was one of the most devastating sports-related tragedies India has witnessed in decades. Initially, the BCCI distanced itself from the incident, stating it had no direct involvement in the planning or execution of the celebrations. However, amid growing public and media scrutiny, the board has now taken concrete steps to prevent such events in the future. Formation of Inquiry Committee To investigate the incident, the BCCI formed a three-member committee led by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. Vice-president Rajeev Shukla and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia are also part of the panel. Saikia confirmed that the board is 'taking every aspect of risk very seriously to avoid any future mishaps.' The committee's findings led to the formulation of a set of mandatory guidelines that IPL franchises must now follow if they wish to conduct victory parades or celebrations. New IPL Celebration Guidelines Rolled Out According to the new protocol, teams are barred from holding any celebration within three to four days of winning the IPL title. This is aimed at avoiding rushed, unplanned events that could pose a safety risk. In addition: - All events must receive prior written approval from the BCCI. - Permission must be obtained from district police, state governments, and civic authorities. - Teams are required to implement multi-layered security, from the airport to the event venue, to safeguard players, staff, and attendees. These measures are expected to drastically improve crowd management and safety during post-IPL festivities. Karnataka Government Responds with New Crowd Control Bill The Karnataka government has also taken action by proposing a new Crowd Management Bill, 2025, in response to the tragedy. According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil, the bill includes provisions to: Hold event organizers accountable for crowd safety Impose fines and jail terms of up to three years for mismanagement Patil also announced three other proposed bills during a cabinet meeting on June 19 addressing misinformation, hate speech, and the implementation of a bill named after Rohith Vemula.

Massive Blow To BCCI, Asked To Pay Rs 538 Crore By Bombay High Court. Details Here

The Bombay High Court has upheld the arbitral, directing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to pay Rs 538 crore to the now defunct IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Kochi Tuskers Kerala was terminated by the BCCI in 2011 after playing just one season. The BCCI had terminated the franchise after just one season (2011), accusing the team of a contract breach after failing to submit a bank guarantee on time, which was required under the agreement. "The jurisdiction of this Court under Section 34 of the Arbitration Act is very limited. BCCI's endeavour to delve into the merits of the dispute, is in teeth of the scope of the grounds contained in Section 34 of the Act. BCCI's dissatisfaction as to the findings rendered in respect of the evidence and/or the merits cannot be a ground to assail the Award," the court said in its ruling. In 2015, the BCCI was asked to pay Rs 550 crore -- 384 crore to KCPL and 153 crore to Rendenzvous sport -- to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers after an arbitration ruled in favour of the team recently. The BCCI had challenged the tribunal's verdict in court. "We have got arbitrator Lahoti's report. The majority of the members are of the opinion of appealing against arbitrator's report. We are seeking legal opinion," the then IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla told PTI after a Governing Council meeting. The franchise which was bought for a whooping Rs 1,550 crore a year ago defaulted on their annual payment after which the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) terminated their contract in 2011. The franchise won the case against the BCCI and the court ordered the board to pay Rs 550 crore. In their only season, the franchise finished eighth in the 10-team table after winning six out of 14 league games. Besides Hodge, Mahela Jayawardene, Brendon McCullum and Ravindra Jadeja all featured for the franchise in their only IPL season. (With Agency Inputs)

India-Pakistan matches confirmed at ICC Women's World Cups in 2025 and 2026

India and Pakistan will meet in the round-robin stage of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 on October 5, five months after the most intense military escalations between the two nations, cricket's governing body has confirmed. The cricket powerhouses will also face each other in the group stage of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, with the marquee clash scheduled for June 14, according to the tournament's schedule announced by the ICC on Wednesday. India are hosting the 50-over World Cup 2025 from September 30 to November 2, but all of Pakistan's fixtures – including any appearances in the semifinals and final – will be held in Sri Lanka as both countries agreed to an ICC-brokered deal in December 2024 to face each other at neutral venues at future ICC events. India and Pakistan were engaged in a four-day conflict last month, their worst standoff since 1999, before a ceasefire was agreed on May 10. More than 70 people were killed in missile, drone and artillery fire on both sides, but there are competing claims on the casualties. Following the escalations, several Indian media outlets reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the ICC to avoid allocating them the same group as Pakistan in global tournaments. However, BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that while India does not 'want to play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government's stand', the country will meet its western neighbour at ICC events 'due to the ICC's engagement'. 'The ICC is also aware, whatever is happening, they will look into it,' Shukla was quoted as saying by Indian media. During the standoff, which led to fears of an all-out war, former and current cricketers from both countries made social media posts in support of their respective armed forces. Given the gravity of the situation, the possibility of both nations meeting on a cricket field was under some doubt, but the ICC confirmed the 50-over tournament's schedule on Monday, with the India-Pakistan round-robin stage match scheduled in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the first week of the tournament. The rest of Pakistan's six fixtures will also be played in the Sri Lankan capital, with the R Premadasa Stadium the likely venue. Should Pakistan qualify for the semifinals, they will play the first knockout match on October 29 in Colombo. If they do not qualify, the match will be played on the same date in Guwahati. The fate of the final will also be decided in a similar manner, with Colombo bagging the hosting rights should Pakistan make it, and Bengaluru hosting it in case they do not. The eight-team Women's Cricket World Cup will begin on September 30 with hosts India taking on Sri Lanka at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Defending champions Australia, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka are the other participant nations. India and Pakistan will meet again in June next year, when they play their Group 1 match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the United Kingdom. The match will be played at Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham at 13:30 GMT. The tournament, which was last won by New Zealand in 2024, will be held at seven venues across England and Wales. Hosts England will play Sri Lanka at Edgbaston in the tournament opener on June 12 at 17:30 GMT. Twelve teams, divided into two groups, will participate. Group 1 comprises Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa and two qualifiers, which will be decided at the end of the qualifying rounds in 2026. Group 2 includes England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka and two qualifiers. The semifinals are scheduled for June 30 and July 2 at the Oval cricket ground in London, while Lord's Cricket Ground will host the final on July 5. The last meeting between India and Pakistan came at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in Dubai on October 6, when India eased to a six-wicket win in the group-stage encounter.
