Quacks charge 25k per snakebite case
Hazaribag: Quacks of the district charge between Rs 5,000 and Rs 25,000 in lizard and snakebite cases. The family members of a woman of Katkamdag block, bitten by a russels' viper, took her to a quack, who wasted the one-hour golden period that is vital to save the lives of snakebite patients. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now They took her to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, from where she was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. The woman was kept on ventilator for five days and declared dead on June 28. Speaking to TOI, the woman's relatives said when her condition deteriorated in Rims, they again contacted the quack, who agreed to treat her over phone. The call was made to her attendant at Rims, who kept the phone on speaker mode near the ear of the patient. At the other side, the quack kept whispering some words on phone for five minutes. This continued for three days till her condition worsened and doctors put her on ventilator. The quack charged Rs 25,000 for his work. In 2018, eight-year-old Shivam Kumar of Katkamdag died of rabies after his family members took him to a quack instead of a health centre for a dog bite. Former deputy superintendent of the Hazaribag sadar hospital, Dr Vijay Shankar, said, "The first hour after the bite is vital to save a patient's life. A bite by a russels' viper triggers multifocal toxicity through dynamic changes in the levels of coagulation factors. People should realise this fact and take the patient to the nearest government hospital." A quack, unwilling to be identified, said that they have the power to cure snakebites. However, he refused to give details, claiming that they don't waste their valuable time in discussing their treatment with urban residents.

Mother, two kids found dead in city
Ranchi: Bodies of a woman and her two children were found after they allegedly died by suicide at an apartment in the Latma locality under the Jagannathpur police station area of Ranchi on Sunday, sending shockwaves in the area. Police have taken custody of the bodies and said further investigation was underway. The deceased have been identified as Sanyukta Singh (35), her 14-year old daughter and 12-year-old son. The family was originally from Bihar's Aurangabad district and the trio was believed to have died some days ago but their bodies detected only on Sunday. Police sources said the woman had been dealing with marital discord from a very long time, which is suspected to have compelled her to take the extreme step. "The woman was staying separately from her husband and a divorce case is going on. Both children were staying with her, " said Digvijay Singh, the officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur police station. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when the neighbours tried to visit their home but did not get any response. "According to the neighbours they have not seen the woman and the children for last two days. When they tried to inquire, the neighbours did not get any response and they informed police, who came to the spot and found the bodies hanging from the ceiling. We have not received any suicide note from the apartment, so far" Ranchi SP Ajit Kumar said. "The initial findings suggest the deaths occurred around two days ago. The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem examination to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) to determine the exact cause and time of death," a police source said. Speaking to the media, a neighbour of the family said, "The relationship between the woman and her husband was going through a tough time, and a divorce case was ongoing at the court. That has impacted the financial stability. She had been staying at the apartment with the kids for about three years and her husband in Aurangabad." Don't refer minor cases to Rims: Health min
Ranchi: State health minister Irfan Ansari on Monday asked district health officials to refrain from referring minor health cases to Ranchi's Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Ansari, who reviewed the department's works at the IPH auditorium in Namkum, asked civil surgeons to ensure that Sadar hospitals across the districts must provide appropriate treatments at their level. "Stop referring patients with minor ailments to Rims. Providing better treatment to the patient is the first responsibility at district hospitals," Ansari said. The move, officials said, is aimed at reducing patient load in the state's largest govt run medical college and hospital in the state capital. During the review, Ansari made it clear that excuses like lack of doctors, medicines, or ambulances will no longer be acceptable. He directed all civil surgeons to ensure that patients receive timely and quality healthcare within district facilities. Stressing accountability, he issued a stern warning regarding ambulance services. "If death occurs due to negligence of ambulance, the civil surgeon will be held responsible," he said. Several announcements were made in the meeting to modernise and strengthen district-level healthcare. From August 15, free Wi-Fi will be operational in sadar hospitals, while specialist OPD services involving doctors from major cities like Ranchi, Patna, Kolkata, and Delhi will also be introduced. Furthermore, a digital push was announced under the Chief Minister's Digital Health Mission, with deadlines to connect high-speed internet lease lines and Wi-Fi across healthcare facilities by September 15 for sub-divisional hospitals, October 15 for Sadar and community health centres and November 15 for primary health centres. Other directives included empanelling all govt hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and setting a revenue target of Rs 6 crore annually for each district hospital.
