RCB Vs SRH match shifted to Lucknow, changes before IPL 2025 playoffs: All you need to know
IPL (PTI Photo) BENGALURU: With relentless rain washing over Bengaluru for the past few days and a yellow alert for more heavy rain issued by the met department, Royal Challengers Bengaluru's game on May 23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad has been moved to Lucknow. 'With a yellow alert in Bengaluru this week, there was no option for the BCCI but to shift the match out of Bengaluru. As a franchise, we are disappointed that we will not be playing in front of our home crowd due to reasons beyond our control. We are sure our phenomenal fan base will continue to shower their love on the team, irrespective of where we play,' Rajesh Menon, vice president RCB, told TOI on Tuesday. Lucknow was the most viable option since SRH are currently in the city and LSG host RCB two days later on May 25. RCB played a 14-overs-a-side contest against Punjab Kings last month, while Saturday's match against KKR was abandoned without a ball being bowled. RCB have already qualified and a top two finish is at stake. Both SRH and LSG are already out of the race. Ahmedabad to host final On Tuesday, the BCCI announced Mullanpur and Ahmedabad as the host cities for the playoffs. Mullanpur will host Qualifier 1 on May 29 and the Eliminator on May 30. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 19 OTT Apps in One Plan. Timings extended The onset of monsoon and the one-week break in the league have necessitated tweaking of the playing conditions. The additional 120 minutes for play to be completed, a norm for playoffs, has been extended to the remaining league matches. For league matches, the extra time is usually 60 minutes. Passenger vehicles sales up 4% in April, two-wheeler despatches fall
Passenger vehicle sales to dealers grew nearly 4 per cent in April, led by demand for utility vehicles (UV), data provided by an industry body showed on Thursday. Two-wheeler sales dropped 16.7 per cent to 1.45 million units, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Three-wheeler sales declined 0.7 per cent to 49,441 units after posting good numbers in 2024-25. The passenger vehicle (PV) segment posted its best April sales (348,847 units) as it grew by 3.9 per cent compared to the same month last year, said Rajesh Menon, director general of SIAM. Two-wheeler sales declined due to the high base effect of April 2024 and are expected to pick up over months. 'The auto industry smoothly transitioned to the new regulatory regime of On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) for two- and three-wheelers from April 2025 onwards, in addition to rolling out E-20 compliant gasoline vehicles across the country,' he said. Car sales dropped by 5.4 per cent in April and that of UVs grew 12.1 per cent. The break-up does not include Tata Motors' sales. JSW, Kia and Toyota Kirloskar Motors reported strong domestic PV sales, while Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), Maruti Suzuki India and Nissan registered did so in exports. PV exports increased by 20 per cent in April amid geopolitical tensions. Tarun Garg, chief operating officer of HMIL, said earlier in May that the domestic automobile market "continues to face headwinds on account of various macroeconomic factors" and his company is focusing on exports. Among two-wheelers, motorcycle sales to dealers suffered the most, declining by 22.7 per cent. Scooter sales declined by 5.7 per cent. Sales by Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp fell 13 per cent and 44 per cent, respectively, in April. Hero paused production at four facilities from April 17-19 to facilitate supply-chain alignment and make scheduled maintenance. 'Normalisation' is expected in May, it has said. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association said last month that while two-wheeler dealers expect a boost from festive buying and demand during the wedding season, it was wary of rising OBD II costs, weak rural liquidity, and competition from electric vehicles. Two-wheeler exports increased by almost 15 per cent in April, according to SIAM.

SUVs drive April auto sales up 4% as entry-level buyers hold back
Sales of cars, sedans and utility vehicles last month grew by about 4% supported by demand for SUVs which managed to retain traction among more affluent buyers, even as customers at the entry-level stayed away from making purchases dragging down sales of small cars. As per data released by industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), as many as 348,847 units were dispatched from factories to dealerships in April, which is an increase of 3.9% over 335,629 units sold in the year-ago period. This is the highest-ever sales in absolute volumes recorded for the month of April in the local market. Automakers in India mostly report wholesale dispatches from factories and not retail sales to customers. Sales of three-wheelers in the month under consideration dipped marginally - by 0.7% to 49,441 units. Those of two-wheelers too were in the red dropping by about 17% to 1,458,784 units in April. While sales of motorcycles declined by 22.7% to 871,666 units, those of scooters fell by 5.7% to 548,370 units. Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM confirmed, 'Passenger vehicles segment posted its highest ever sales of April in 2025 of 3.49 lakh units, with a growth of 3.9% as compared to April 2024. Three-wheelers de-grew marginally by (-) 0.7% compared to April of previous year, with sales of 0.49 lakh units. The two-wheeler segment de grew by (-) 16.7% in April 2025, as compared to April 2024, with sales of 14.59 lakh units, due to high base effect of April last year, while it is likely to pick up in coming months.' Senior industry executives expect car sales to remain muted and grow by about 2% in the ongoing financial year, albeit on a high base, due to adverse macro-economic factors in the ongoing financial year. 'Without revival of the small car market, growth in the domestic industry will remain muted. To buy a carpriced over Rs 10 lakh, you need to have annual household income of more than Rs 12 lakh. How can the car market get to high growth when 88% of households earn less than $14,000 a year', Maruti Suzuki Chairman R C Bhargava said in a post-earnings call recently, adding that 60-70% of consumers today do not have the option to buy a carbecause of affordability sales, though, are expected to fare better driven by consumer demand in rural areas. Market leader Hero MotoCorp in it's post-results call said it expects two-wheeler sales this fiscal to grow by 6-7% on back of favourable monsoons, strengthening of the rural economy, revision in income tax slabs which are expected to put more money in hands of motorcycle buyers. To be sure, vehicle prices in the segment have risen recently - by about 2% - on account of implementation of OBD2 (onboard diagnostic norms), but industry watchers do not expect much impact of demand because of the price revision on this count. 'Auto industry smoothly transitioned to the new regulatory regime of 2nd stage of On Board Diagnostics (OBD) 2 regulation for two and three-wheelers from April 2025 onwards, in addition to rolling out E-20 compliant gasoline vehicles across the country from this month', Menon said.
