Mani Ratnam On Reunion With Rajinikanth And His Next Films: 'We Never Know'

Last Updated: Mani Ratnam addressed the speculation surrounding a potential reunion with superstar Rajinikanth. The two last collaborated on Thalapathi in 1991. Filmmaker Mani Ratnam is currently preparing for the release of Thug Life, which marks his highly anticipated reunion with Kamal Haasan after nearly four decades. The duo last collaborated on the iconic 1987 film Nayakan, and their upcoming project is already creating buzz. During an exclusive chat, Ratnam spoke about what it was like to work with Kamal again. 'It's been similar working with Kamal Haasan then and now. He was fully evolved even then. He was a big star even then… I was just a beginner and he trusted me and that hasn't changed. Nayakan and Thug Life are in the same genre. It's a distant cousin. But completely different in terms of the equation." Mani Ratnam Backs Deepika Padukone Over Spirit Exit: 'Glad She's In A Position To Ask' | Exclusive The director also addressed the speculation surrounding a potential reunion with superstar Rajinikanth. The two last collaborated on Thalapathi in 1991, and rumours about another film began swirling after Rajinikanth appeared at the audio launch of Ponniyin Selvan two years ago. Reacting to the buzz, Ratnam said, 'I think you should ask Rajini sir… you should see… we never know." On what lies ahead after Thug Life, the filmmaker shared that he's considering a break before diving into his next. 'After Thug Life, I plan to take a break. I have four scripts in mind, but none of them are fully fleshed out yet. If nothing comes out of them, then that's the end of it. Every filmmaker has several ideas that seem like they could be made into a film." Ratnam also praised his longtime collaborator AR Rahman, who has composed the music for Thug Life. 'He brings it all in. It's always been a pleasure working with him because he gives you more than you ask for. He works harder than you do. He doesn't settle even when you are ready to settle. So he always takes it beyond what you would expect." Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Mani Ratnam, is set for a global theatrical release on June 5, 2025. Whenever it comes to South heroes, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Vijay Sethupathi and Allu Arjun are talked about. But today we will tell you about that South star who started working in films from a young age. But as soon as he became a top hero, he took a break from acting. After this, such an accident happened to him that he was bedridden for years. But then the luck of this star shone so much that he became the owner of a business worth crores. Mani Ratnam saw 21-year-old Arvind Swamy, who belonged to a business family, in an advertisement. After this, he was called for an audition. After which he appeared on screen for the first time in Rajinikanth and Mammootty's film Thalapathi. But the film Roja released in 1992 and Bombay released in 1995 gave such a boost to Arvind's career that he became a star overnight. Arvind's stardom increased further when he appeared with Kajol in the National Award winning film 'Minsara Kanavu'. Apart from this, he entered the Hindi stream with the film 'Saat Rang Ke Sapne'. Due to Arvind's increasing stardom, people started considering him as the successor of two great South actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. But after giving many hit films, Arvind suddenly decided to distance himself from films. He was only 30 years old at that time. There are reports that Arvind is suffering from depression. This is also because the sudden downfall in his career in the 90s had broken Arvind from inside. Therefore, in 2000, he decided to distance himself from acting which shocked everyone. This year he had such a dangerous accident. Due to this accident, Arvind's leg became partially paralysed. He even became dependent on others to get up and sit. But he did not give up. Before the accident, Arvind had founded Talent Maximus India. According to many portals, the revenue of Talent Maximus in 2022 was 3300 crores. The special thing is that even after being paralyzed, Arvind remained active in all these companies. After this, after recovering, he again turned to films in the year 2013. After Mani Ratnam's 'Kadal', he played the role of MG Ramachandran in the Bollywood film 'Thalaivi' released in the year 2021. He was recently seen in the movie Meiyazhagan. This film was highly praised.

Meet This Co-Star Of Rajinikanth Who Never Got A Lead Role — His Son Cracked UPSC In 2nd Attempt To Become An IAS Officer

New Delhi: One of Rajinikanth's co-stars, who was never seen in a major role, now has a son serving the nation as an IAS officer. In this feature, we're talking about an actor who shared screen space with the Thalaiva but remained in supporting roles throughout his career. While many might assume that his son followed in his cinematic footsteps to become a superstar, he chose a completely different path, one of public service. He cracked one of the toughest exams in India: the UPSC Civil Services Examination. UPSC is conducted in three rigorous stages- Prelims, Mains, and Interview. Not only did he clear all three, but he also secured an All India Rank of 75. Who Is This Actor? We are talking about Tamil actor Chinni Jayanth, whose real name is Krishnamurthy Narayanan. He has appeared alongside Rajinikanth in popular films such as Raja Chinna Roja, Adhisaya Piravi, and Petta. Despite his extensive work, Chinni was never cast in lead roles. His son, however, made headlines not in cinema, but in civil service. Srutanjay Narayanan chose to stay away from the limelight and forge his own path. Srutanjay's Educational Journey Srutanjay completed his engineering degree before beginning his UPSC preparation in 2015. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science and Cartography. Later, he pursued a Master's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies from Ashoka University. His Professional Experience Unlike many UPSC aspirants who focus solely on academics, Srutanjay gained valuable work experience alongside his studies. He worked as a marketing intern at a startup, co-founded an event company called Ayamara Events, and served as a Project Manager at NASSCOM Foundation. He consistently studied 5–6 hours a day to stay on track. Srutanjay's UPSC Journey Srutanjay appeared for his first UPSC attempt in 2018, which did not result in success. However, he didn't give up. On his second attempt in 2019, he secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 75. He initially worked as the Sub-Collector of Tiruppur district and is currently serving as the Sub-Collector of Villupuram district. This IAS officer's journey is a testament to the fact that failures and setbacks should not pull you down- but instead motivate you to push harder. From being the son of a supporting actor to achieving national service, Srutanjay Narayanan's story is one of perseverance, grit, and quiet determination.
