Yakitori Shack is reportedly moving into the unit formerly used by Ramen Dayo on Glasgow's Argyle Street. It is unclear exactly what will be on the upcoming menu. According to the website the eatery currently offers grilled chicken. small plates and rice bowls. The opening date for the new spot is Tuesday 13 May, reports Glasgow Times. Elsewhere an iconic family-run restaurant has hit the market after more than 30 years in business. Girvans on Stephens Street, Inverness, opened in 1991 and is known for its freshly baked cakes, brunch and friendly service. The institution is popular with locals and tourists alike and is regularly queued out the door. The business is currently run by owner Fiona Girvan and manager Frances Geddes, who are responsible for a team of "friendly and outgoing characters". Now the restaurant, which has 85 covers, has hit the market with offers over £825,000 being sought. A description from agents Graham and Sibbald reads: "The restaurant is located in the heart of Inverness City Centre. The family-run business is a well-known establishment for both locals and tourists. Top Scottish Indian Restaurants Shine Globally "Regularly queued out, the business has been run by the same owners for over thirty years and is well known for its variety of quality food, including their freshly baked cakes. "Located at the bottom of Stephen's Brae, this iconic restaurant has been serving locals and tourists for years and is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere and in-house patisserie. "Over the years, the premises have been well maintained and the owners and staff are constantly coming up with refreshing ideas for new and exciting dishes. "We feel this presents a fantastic opportunity for a buyer to acquire an established town centre, award-winning hospitality business with a good turnover and attractive profit levels."

Taking over the space vacated by Ramen Dayo on Argyle Street in the heart of Finnieston, Yakitori Shack will open its doors on Tuesday, May 13. The focus will be binchotan-grilled yakitori and sides straight from the robata grill, rice & noodles and bold, simple flavours built for pairing with cold beer and cocktails. The kitchen centres around binchotan charcoal, the clean-burning, high-temperature charcoal imported from Japan and considered the best charcoal in the world, for the way it smokes and sears. READ NEXT: Hundreds gather as 'first of its kind' road bridge opens on the River Clyde Yakitori Shack favourites from the original pop-up will return, including the skirt steak skewer, peanut butter noodles, and the elote japonais (corn ribs slathered in Kewpie mayo, Sriracha and grated hard cheese). Fans of Ramen Dayo will be thrilled to see a few beloved dishes return too, like the Karaage chicken, but with a brand-new twist. Inside, you'll find custom-made Japanese lanterns and noren curtains, sourced straight from Japan, a subtle nod to Tokyo's backstreet grill joints. Downstairs, there is a traditional izakaya style private dining area, with three separate rooms, sitting up to 10 people. With a late licence, Yakitori Shack will also be serving up an extended drinks menu and regular DJs.

Ramen Dayo shut its spot at 1126 Argyle Street in the city's West End on May 5, 2025. While the Asian-inspired eatery has closed its Finnieston venue, it still operates another restaurant on Ashton Lane nearby. "Our last service in Finnieston is done, and our doors are closed for the last time. "We have had a blast in Finnieston and can't thank you all enough for all your love and support, it means so much. "As sad as we are to say goodbye to Finnieston, we have exciting things in the pipeline that we're working super hard on, so we can't rest! "In the meantime, Ramen Dayo on Ashton Lane is still open, so you can still get your fix there." Last year, we reported how the popular food joint was visited by two Celtic players. In summer 2024, Reo Hatate, alongside former Hoops player Kobayashi Yuki, popped into the restaurant for a delicious meal. The pair posed for a smiley snap at the eatery. Reo, 27, has played with the Glasgow side since 2022. Meanwhile, Kobayashi, 24, played with Celtic from 2023 until 2024 before joining Portimonense in Portugal.
