Violations in drug sale rampant in Wanaparthy

Wanaparthy: Monthly drug sales in the district have crossed the Rs 10 crore mark but all is not well in the business. A large portion of this sale is allegedly illegally driven by unlicensed medical shops operating without proper permits and proper oversight. Of the 320 medical shops in the district, more than 100 running unofficially. Over half of these are operating without proper licence. Moreover, medical shops are required to issue receipts for any purchase but there are allegations that receipts are not being provided and prices charged are above MRP. Generic medicines are being sold at high prices as if they are branded. 'The Drugs and Cosmetics Act is not being properly enforced, indicating a lack of supervision from ground-level drug control officers,' said a local. 'Even kirana shops are selling tablets,' said Ramesh, resident of Pebbair. 'In emergencies, they are exploiting people by charging high prices. Officials must act against such practices,' he said. Some medical shop operators are reportedly bringing in doctors from Hyderabad, Kurnool and other areas without any authorisation, using their names to attract patients and sell medicines. To run a clinic or hospital, DMHO approval is required. However, many shop-owners in the district are ignoring these regulations and are running businesses illegally, earning large sums by violating norms. Companies are reportedly making deals with shop-owners and doctors, offering commissions between 25% and 40% for selling their products. As a result, doctors are allegedly prescribing these medicines to patients regardless of necessity, focusing more on meeting company-imposed sales targets than on patient care. 'Violation of rules will lead to action,' warned Drug Inspector Rashmika. 'Last year, we registered 15 cases in the district. Some shops selling banned drugs have already been seized and are under court jurisdiction. People must insist on taking a receipt when purchasing medicines from any medical shop. Everyone should be aware of this,' she underscored.

Nepali couple steals pistol, gold, cash worth Rs 1.8 crore when employer visited Tirupati

Bengaluru: A Nepali couple, working as a security guard and a domestic help for a businessman in Bengaluru, recently fled with valuables worth Rs 1.8 crore and a licensed pistol. The incident took place at the residence of S Ramesh Babu, 55, businessman and political party functionary residing in Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar near HAL. The accused, identified as Raj and Deepa, had been working for Ramesh for three months. However, police suspect the couple may have given fake names as Ramesh didn't collect their ID proofs while hiring them. The theft was discovered on May 28 after Ramesh and his family returned from a pilgrimage to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The family had left on May 27, 5.30am, leaving the couple in charge of the house. Ramesh, who had installed CCTV cameras on the premises, was monitoring footage through an app on his phone but noticed the cameras went offline on May 28. He assumed it was due to a power cut. Around 11.30 am on May 28, a family friend who visited the house found the front gate and door open and the couple missing. She called Ramesh, who alerted another friend to check the house. During a video call, Ramesh saw the bedroom locks had been broken. The family returned home at 4pm and found the valuables missing. The stolen items include a licensed pistol, diamond necklace, several gold ornaments, weighing about 2kg, and Rs 10 lakh in cash. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 노안+백내장 안보이는 답답함! 더는 방치 하지 마세요! 부산백내장노안 전문안과 더 알아보기 Undo The total value of the stolen property is estimated at Rs 1.8 crore. Ramesh told the police that the stolen items included both inherited and self-earned assets. Further investigation revealed the couple had been introduced to Ramesh by a former employee named Prem, who had been working for the family for over a year and a half. Prem introduced Babu, an older man, to replace him when he went back to his native place. Babu, unable to manage the chores, recommended Raj and Deepa to Ramesh. The couple quickly gained the family's trust, and Ramesh even left them in charge of the house multiple times without issue. Police believe Raj and Deepa conspired with three associates to commit the theft. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Shivakumar Gunare confirmed that a case has been registered under BNS section 306 for theft by a clerk or servant of property in possession of the master. A special team has been formed to track down the culprits, and the police are continuing their investigation.

BJP's 'Saboot gang' jab at Congress leaders

The BJP hit out at the Congress for the remarks made by some of its leaders on Operation Sindoor , calling the Opposition party a 'Saboot gang' which is trying to demoralise the Indian forces, undermining India's position following the recent Pahalgam attack . Launching a fresh attack on the Congress over Telangana CM Revanth Reddy's remarks on how many Rafale jets were downed during Op Sindoor, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "Yeh jo Pakistan ke Babbar hain, woh Hindustan ke Gabbar hain". Addressing a press conference on Friday, Patra wanted to know why Rahul Gandhi, Reddy and Jairam Ramesh were not asking Pakistan how many of their air bases were destroyed or terrorists were killed by India, but were more curious to know many Indian planes have been downed by Pakistan. "Congress, the saboot gang, is not happy at what India has been able to achieve," Patra said, adding that Ramesh has put terrorists and MPs in the same category. Patra mentioned that there are two factions in Congress now: One which supports Pakistan and the other which wants to raise their voice but cannot do it because of Gandhi. Patra acknowledged that Congress MPs were among the delegates visiting global capitals to present India's stance following the Pahalgam attack. While commending their efforts, he condemned Ramesh's comparison as irresponsible.

"Economy still not recovered from shock of demonetisation": Congress leader Jairam Ramesh

New Delhi [India], May 30 (ANI): The demonisation announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the 'first major blow to the economy,' with the economy not recovering from the shock till date, said Congress leader and party's General Secretary in-charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh on Friday. Ramesh further said with 98.24 pc of Rs 2000 notes being returned to Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which were introduced at the same time of demonisation, has proven that the whole 'experiment' was a futile exercise. Criticising the demonisation policy in a post on X, Ramesh posted, 'The demonetisation announcement made with much fanfare by the Prime Minister on the night of 8 November 2016 was the first major blow to our economy - and the economy has not fully recovered from this shock till date.' Talking about the introduction, and the subsequent withdrawal of the Rs 2000 notes from circulation, Ramesh's post added, '2000 rupee notes were introduced at the same time, in November 2016. But just as they were introduced suddenly, the announcement of demonetization of these notes on 30 September 2023 was also made suddenly. So far 98.24% of such notes have been deposited back to RBI. This clearly proves how futile and futile this entire experiment was.' Calling back the claim that demonisation will 'end fake currency,' Ramesh said that there has been a 37 pc increase in fake 500 rupee notes in 2023, highlighting an article which quoted RBI's annual report 2024-25. On November 8, 2016, the 500 and 1000 rupee notes were demonetised overnight, and new Rs 2000 notes were issued. 'Government of India vide their Notification no. 2652 dated November 8, 2016 have withdrawn the Legal Tender status of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations of banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series issued by the Reserve Bank of India till November 8, 2016,' the RBI said in a press release in 2016. The decision was taken in order to tackle fake currency, nullify black money, and curb the funding of terrorism. (ANI)
