Amid the sweltering heat, around 74,500 tube wells have become defunct across the state. Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore said Rs 259 crore has been earmarked to repair the defunct tube wells. "The drinking water and sanitation department informed that around 74,500 tube-wells were out of order till April 1," he said in a statement. The deputy commissioners of all districts have been asked to repair the tube wells with the allocated funds at the earliest so that people do not face a water crisis, he added.

Jharkhand revises school timings amid severe heatwave; classes to begin at 7 am from April 26
RANCHI: Jharkhand government on Thursday announced revised school timings because of intense heat sweeping across the state, an official said. Students from kindergarten to Class 8 will attend school from 7 am to 11:30 am, while senior students will continue classes until noon, the official added. The new timings will come into effect from April 26 till further notice. "Considering the increasing impact of heat in the state, classes from KG to class 8 in all categories of government, non-government aided, unaided (including minority) schools, and all private schools will operate from 7 am to 11.30 am and classes from standard 9 to 12 will operate from 7 am to noon until further notice," according to the order issued by the school education and literacy department. RANCHI: As a heat wave grips Jharkhand, the state government has issued a notification making changes in the timetable of all categories of government, non-government aided/non-aided (including minority) and private schools. Now, the timetable for nursery to class VIII will be from 7 am to 11:30 am and for classes 9 to 12 will be from 7 am to 12 noon. 'Keeping in view the increasing impact of heat wave in the state, classes from KG to Class 8 will be conducted from 7:00 am to 11:30 am and classes from Class 9 to Class 12 will be conducted from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon in all categories of government, non-government aided / non-aided (including minority) and all private schools operating in the state, till further orders,' stated notification issued by School Education and Literacy Department. Meanwhile, a heatwave has swept parts of Jharkhand with Daltonganj sizzling at 43 degrees Celsius.
