Mariners' Randy Arozarena power surge not seen since Ken Griffey Jr. 29 years ago

The post Mariners' Randy Arozarena power surge not seen since Ken Griffey Jr. 29 years ago appeared first on ClutchPoints. If the season were to end today, the Seattle Mariners would be sitting comfortably in an AL Wild Card spot. They've gone 7-3 over their past 10 games, including a huge series victory over their main rival for the AL West crown, the Houston Astros, and their acquisition from last year's trade deadline, Randy Arozarena, has been playing a huge part in Seattle's success. On Thursday, the Mariners took a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels to pull one game closer of the Astros, who lost to the Athletics. And it was Arozarena who once again played a starring role. The hard-hitting outfielder, on a 3-1 count, pummeled an 86-mph slider from Yusei Kikuchi, hammering the ball just above the left-field wall. This home run broke a 1-1 deadlock and proved to be the true game-changing moment. This dinger from Arozarena was his ninth in the calendar month of July. This feat puts him in the company of Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr., who, according to Francys Romero of Beisbol FR, is joined by Arozarena as two of the only three players to mash that many homers in the month of July for the Mariners (with Jay Buhner accomplishing the feat alongside Griffey back in 1996). On the month of July, Arozarena has been red-hot at the plate for the Mariners. He's slashing .264/.325/.681 since the first of July with nine home runs and 14 runs batted in. He's gotten his power swing right back on track, putting him now on 19 home runs and 51 RBIs on the season with an overall slash line of .248/.352/.467. It may have taken a bit of time, but Arozarena is now doing his thing for a Mariners franchise that believed in him. Now, Seattle will be hoping Josh Naylor also picks it up in a Mariners uniform. Mariners' Randy Arozarena proves 2024 down season was a fluke In 2024, Arozarena struggled mightily. There were stretches where he struggled to hit above the Mendoza line, and his overall production at the plate dipped considerably. But the Mariners still bought on him prior to last year's trade deadline, and the move is now paying off. The peripherals for Arozarena continue to trend the wrong way, as his walk and strikeout rates have gotten progressively worse from 2023. But if he keeps on putting home runs on the board, then the Mariners will still be very pleased with their 2024 acquisition. Arozarena still has a week to keep adding to his tally in what has already been a historic July. Mariners' Randy Arozarena joins exclusive list after steal vs. Athletics

The post Mariners' Randy Arozarena joins exclusive list after steal vs. Athletics appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Seattle Mariners lost the Athletics 6-1 on Tuesday night. Nick Kurtz ended the game with a stellar catch leading the Athletics to another win. Despite the loss, Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena was able to steal his 20th base of the season, tying the team lead with Julio Rodriguez. The steal gave Arozarena his fifth straight 20/20 season of his career. Getting one 20/20 season is difficult in Major League Baseball. Very few players have been able to do it in multiple seasons. However, Arozarena finds himself in elite company after Tuesday night. He is one of ten players in league history to have five straight 20/20 seasons. Seattle's social media page celebrated the former All-Star after the game. Arozarena and Rodriguez are both on pace to notch 30/30 seasons, which is another big achievement. Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has received a lot of praise for his stellar season at the plate as well. However, Rodriguez has emerged as a consistent offensive threat alongside Arozarena. They are a big reason why Seattle has remained competitive in the American League West. The Mariners have a chance to win their series against the Athletics on Wednesday. If they do, they will inch even closer to the Houston Astros in their division race. After Seattle traded for Josh Naylor, the team's expectations are that much higher. Arozarena's production at the plate and the base paths will play a big role in determining how successful the team is. He and Rodriguez have taken on leadership roles in the Mariners' clubhouse. However, the team's recent struggles have drowned Seattle in trade rumors ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. Even after adding Naylor, experts believe the team is one or two pieces away from seriously contending for a title. For now, the team celebrates Arozarena joining a small list of players with five 20/20 seasons in a row. Regardless of where his team finishes in the standings, the outfielder has continued to produce at the highest level for his team. Rodríguez, Arozarena and Polanco hit homers and Mariners beat Angels 4-2

Julio Rodríguez, Randy Arozarena and Jorge Polanco homered, Logan Evans gave up one run in five innings, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 on Thursday night. Rodríguez, who stole third base in the first inning, has 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases this season. The 24-year-old is the first player in MLB history with at least 15 homers and 20-plus stolen bases in each of their first four seasons. Evans (4-3), a 24-year-old rookie, allowed three hits and walked three with three strikeouts. Andrés Muñoz pitched a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save. Rodríguez hit a solo shot off Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi (4-7) and Arozarena added a two-run homer to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead in the fifth. Mike Trout doubled and then scored when Nolan Schanuel followed with a single in the first for the Angels. Zach Neto added an RBI single in the seventh. The Mariners acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from Arizona earlier Thursday, ahead of the trade deadline on July 31. Trout drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases with two out in the ninth before Muñoz got Schanuel to line out to end the game. Trout has 437 total bases and 146 runs scored in his career against Seattle, both of which are records. Rafael Palmeiro and Rickey Henderson hold the previous marks of 435 total bases and 145 runs, respectively. Seattle's Bryan Woo (8-5, 2.91 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday against José Soriano (7-7, 3.73) in the second of a four-game series.
