Criminal carrying 50,000 bounty arrested in Varanasi
P rayagraj: A joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and Pratapgarh police on Saturday arrested a notorious criminal, identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Major, from Varanasi. Singh, a resident of Dilippur (Pratapgarh), was carrying a Rs 50,000 cash reward on his head. Police said as many as 10 criminal cases were pending against Singh, who was giving sleepless nights to the police in different districts, including Kanpur, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. He was wanted by Raniganj police in connection with a case registered under section 103 (1) and 61 (2) A of BNS and section 3(2) V of the SC/ST Act. Acting on a specific tip-off that a wanted criminal was taking shelter at a hotel in Bada Lalapur area in Varanasi, a joint team of STF and Pratapgarh police carried out a raid and nabbed him. Agricultural services camps held in Theni district
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday launched the Uzhavarai Thedi Velanmai - Uzhavar Nala Thurai initiative in Theni district via video conference. Camps were held in the district as per the initiative. The main objective of the initiative was to deliver agricultural services to farmers in the villages. The initiative was launched in the presence of Theni Collector Ranjeet Singh, Cumbum MLA N. Ramakrishnan and other government officials. Speaking on the occasion in Uthamapalayam, Theni Collector Ranjeet Singh said that under the initiative, the requirements of the farmers would be ascertained and the agricultural services will be provided to them The farmers will also be given awareness on agriculture related services and schemes. Camps will be held in villages and experts will be visiting the villages along with the Department officials to help the farmers, he said. The Collector also distributed coconut saplings and tomato seedlings to the farmers at the event. Following the event, the Collector inspected the Accident and Emergency Care Centre which is being constructed at a cost of ₹3.6 crore at Uthamapalayam Government Hospital. He also inspected the Maternity Ward being constructed at a cost of ₹12 crore at Cumbum Government Hospital. The Collector instructed the officials to ensure that the works were completed as per the schedule.

Control room set up in Theni to receive rain-related complaints
With Theni region receiving continuous rains in the past two days and more rains expected in the next few days, the district administration has directed all the departments concerned to be prepared and carry out necessary emergency work. In a press release, Collector Ranjeet Singh has instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the water channels were cleared of wild growth of weeds and encroachments so that they conveyed the rainwater to ponds and tanks. The Collector also instructed them to keep a close watch on Mullaperiyar river, Kottakudi river, Sothupparai dam and Vaigai dam. People living near the river and other waterbodies had been asked to keep vigil and take precautionary measures. Parents were urged not to allow their children to play, take bath or go near the waterbodies. In case of any grievance related to the rain, floods or any other emergency, the public could call the control room on toll-free numbers 04546 1077 or 04546 261093. Noida resident loses ₹52 lakh in share market fraud
A 66-year-old man in Noida was duped of ₹52 lakh by fraudsters posing as executives of a British multinational bank. The victim, a resident of Noida Sector 31, was duped on the pretext of investing in securities between March 12 and April 11, police said, adding that a case was registered at the Cybercrime police station. The victim retired as an engineer, said police. In his complaint to police, he said, 'On March 12, I was added to a WhatsApp group of a British bank's securities group with a logo. At least 100 people were added to that group and were told to invest in stocks.' The suspects posed as bank executives and regulators of securities. 'They (fraudsters) added the victim from one group to another and then another. Later, he received a link and was asked to download an application to start trading. The app also displayed the logo of a British MNC bank,' said Ranjeet Singh, cybercrime branch station house officer. 'Cybercriminals gave him lucrative deals at a discount of 30% and later asked him to transfer money. He was allowed to withdraw some money in the first attempt, but when he tried again, the suspects prevented him from doing so, citing a credit score that was displayed on the application,' Singh added. The victim transferred more than ₹52 lakh to the suspects in multiple payments, and when he was asked to transfer another ₹5 lakh, he found it suspicious and reported the incident to police on April 16. 'Following an investigation, a case of cheating and cheating by personation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act was registered on Wednesday, and efforts are underway to recover money,' added Singh.

Implementation of drinking water, road projects being given priority, says Minister at gram sabha meeting
Implementation of drinking water projects, road facilities and other basic amenities were discussed at the gram sabha meeting held on Thursday at Alamarathupatti Panchayat in Attur Panchayat Union in Dindigul district. Minister for Rural Development I. Periyasamy, who presided over the meeting, said that the State government was implementing various welfare schemes for the benefit of the public. The roads in Dindigul district were being improved in a phased manner and necessary steps were being taken to improve roads in both urban and rural areas. Under Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme the government had sanctioned the construction of one lakh houses. In Dindigul district, the construction of the houses were underway. To meet the drinking water needs of the people of Attur, Nilakottai and Dindigul, a project has been proposed to bring water from Vaigai river at an estimated cost of ₹589 crore, he said. The Minister also administered a pledge at the meeting to protect girl children and educate girl children. He said that girl children should not be discriminated against and should be given adequate support to pursue higher education. In Theni district, Theni Collector Ranjeet Singh presided over the gram sabha meeting held at Karunakkamuthanpatti Panchayat in Cumbum Panchayat Union. The Collector said that the main objective of the gram sabha meeting was to identify the basic requirements of the people, discuss it with the people and take necessary steps to implement it. He said that considering the welfare of the children, the government was implementing various schemes and providing scholarships to students. Every student should pursue higher education, he said, adding that there should be no dropouts. He urged the parents to send their children to schools and support their children in achieving their goals. Child marriages should be prevented, the Collector said and urged the public to immediately inform the district administration if they had any information regarding child marriage.
