‘Three years later, where is my interview letter?': Karunamoyee becomes fortress after TET 2022 candidates hit the streets
Thousands of Primary Teacher Eligibility Test 2022 (TET 2022) qualified candidates took to the streets in Kolkata on Tuesday, demanding their interview letters, which they have allegedly not received even three years later. Before they could begin their march to the Acharya Prafulla Chandra Bhawan, police started detaining them — some were allegedly dragged away. A heavy police force, along with Rapid Action Force (RAF), had been deployed and several buses were kept ready. Mirza Ali, a TET 2022 candidate from Birbhum, told The Indian Express, 'Are we terrorists? We have qualified the exams. For three years, we have been waiting for an interview letter.' Despite the rain, candidates tried to dodge the police and head towards SSC Bhawan. The Primary TET exam was held on December 11, 2022, with lakhs of people appearing. The results had been published. According to the protestors, the Primary Education Board has allegedly not issued interview notices, and their main demand is the notices being immediately issued. Sanchita Guin, one of the job seekers, said, 'Our backs are against the wall now. We have no other option but to hit the streets. What is our fault? We have given exams, qualified, still not getting jobs. Why this delay? How many more years do we have to wait?' Candidates also raised slogans against the police: 'Police, you are a disgrace.' Another protester said, 'Have we got guns? Why are they treating us like this? Due to corruption, after five years, TET 2022 examinations were held.' Meanwhile, a senior police officer said, 'The situation is under control. We will do everything to maintain law and order and to protect public property.' Karunamoyee and surrounding areas turned into a fortress with simultaneous rallies. Along with the TET job seekers, members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) also protested, demanding the publication of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) results and commencement of college admissions. Heavy police deployment was seen in front of Bikash Bhawan. As soon as the SFI rally reached there, police began detaining students. One protester said, 'What about our future? We have been waiting for admissions to begin for months but there is nothing. This is going to affect our career. No one is telling us the reason for the delay.' Another said: 'Joint results were to be declared but that has also been deferred. Why? Who is going to take responsibility for this delay? We are being detained, not allowed to speak up. Is this democracy?' The WBJEE results were scheduled for August 7, but hours before the declaration, the Calcutta High Court stayed it over the OBC reservation issue.

Demolition in progress amid tight security for widening of four-lane road in Kashi
1 2 3 4 Varanasi: Portions of over 30 buildings, including walls of a mosque and a shrine, were demolished near police lines crossing on Sunday for completion of remaining works of the Kutchehri-Sandaha 4-lane road project. The team from PWD, led by executive engineer K K Singh, reached police lines crossing in the morning with a heavy police force and Rapid Action Force companies. The team demolised demarcated portions of the buildings affected by this road widening project. When mediapersons contacted Singh, he informed them that widening of the road was proposed under the Kutchehri-Sandaha 4-lane project. The road would be widened up to 26 meters at police line and added that compensation amounting Rs 3.52 crore was already distributed among owners of 71 buildings affected. Demarcation of the area for demolition was done, apart from serving notices and prior announcement of the demolition drive on Saturday. Despite this claim by PWD officials, no voluntary effort was made for removal of demarcated portions. When the joint team of PWD, district administration and police reached, some groups tried to resist and stage protests to stop the demolition work but failed in their bid as bulldozers started demolishing identified structures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The action began with demolition of the wall of the Kachnar Shaheed Mazar, followed by bulldozing nearby shops. Some shops still had stock inside, which was removed hastily amid the demolition. Six additional shops built behind the Dayam Khan Mosque were also demolished. During the operation, a large crowd gathered in the area, disrupting traffic. Police allowed vehicles to pass through a single lane, due to which commuters' movement was hindered. The demolition work is likely to continue on one of the busiest roads of the city, as all demarcated buildings could not be covered on Sunday. Devotees flock to Lal Darwaja for Mahankali Bonalu Celebrations
Lal Darwaja witnessed a significant influx of devotees today (Sunday, July 20) as the Mahankali Ammavari Bonalu festivities commenced. Devotees are gathering in large numbers to present bonals to the goddess, creating a vibrant atmosphere as the temple area fills with anticipation and reverence. In response to the overwhelming turnout, temple authorities have organised special queue lines for those bringing bonals, ensuring a smoother experience for all attendees. The temple has been beautifully adorned for the occasion, with the sounds of devotional songs echoing throughout the bustling surroundings. However, long wait times for darshan of the goddess have become commonplace due to the sheer volume of visitors. To ensure the safety and comfort of all participants, temple authorities have implemented extensive arrangements. The local police have established a robust security presence, deploying approximately 2,500 officers to oversee the celebrations. CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the area to monitor the ongoing events, and both city and district police have joined forces in security efforts. To deter criminal activity, special crime prevention units are positioned in the vicinity, focusing on preventing pickpocketing and chain snatching. Additionally, teams of officers in plain clothes are patrolling the area to identify and apprehend any individuals engaging in disruptive behaviour. The Rapid Action Force has also been stationed in sensitive locations to maintain order throughout the festivities. In a proactive measure, the government has temporarily closed all wine shops during the Bonalu celebrations, and traffic restrictions have been imposed in areas surrounding the temple to facilitate the movement of devotees and ensure their safety.
