OHRC participates in conference on Human Rights from an Islamic Perspective
Muscat: Oman Human Rights Commission, led by its Chair Professor Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, participated in the First International Conference on Human Rights from an Eastern Perspective, held in Tehran and Qom, Islamic Republic of Iran. The Conference was organised by Baqir al-Olum University in cooperation with the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization under Iran's Ministry of Culture. It brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives from national human rights institutions, regional and international organizations, as well as researchers and academics with expertise in the field. The Conference aimed to present a comprehensive Eastern perspective on human rights, one that draws on the rich cultural and civilizational heritage of Islamic and Eastern traditions. It also sought to highlight values and principles from various Eastern civilizations as an alternative to dominant Western approaches in human rights discourse. Discussions at the Conference focused on the need for an Eastern approach to human rights, particularly in light of ongoing global challenges and crises, most notably, the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Conference also explored historical and cultural experiences across different countries, the potential for greater regional cooperation, and evolving concepts of human rights from an Eastern viewpoint, including their philosophical, cultural, and social foundations. Professor Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, Chair of the Oman Human Rights Commission, presented a scholarly paper at the Conference. His presentation addressed the importance and necessity of convening a human rights conference from an Eastern perspective, especially in light of the prevailing global challenges and crises. He also highlighted Oman's historical and cultural experience in the field of human rights. The Commission's delegation also included Plenipotentiary Minister Aqil bin Alawi Ba Omar, a member of the Commission, and Hassan bin Ahmed Al-Ajmi from the Commission's Technical Secretariat.

Oman Human Rights Commission takes part in Arab Human Rights Session in Kuwait
Muscat: The Oman Human Rights Commission participated as an observer in the 55th session of the Arab Permanent Human Rights Committee, held in the State of Kuwait. The official delegation was led by Professor Dr Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of the Commission. The session addressed several pressing human rights concerns in the Arab world, including the serious violations occurring in the occupied Palestinian territories and their humanitarian impact. Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation among member states to implement recommendations from the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee and tackling emerging human rights challenges, particularly those related to technology and artificial intelligence. Another key area of discussion was the protection of vulnerable groups, with a particular focus on safeguarding the rights of families and children. The meeting concluded with a series of recommendations, emphasising the need for enhanced joint Arab efforts to develop human rights policies, promote regional solidarity in support of Arab causes on the international stage, and encourage dialogue and cooperation among member states to establish effective mechanisms for implementing international agreements. It was also agreed to launch a media campaign for Arab Human Rights Day on 16 March 2025, under the theme "The Right to Food for the Palestinian People." Additionally, the session approved the guiding implementation plan for the Arab Human Rights Strategy. The Omani delegation included Mr Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Saadi, a member of the Commission, and Mr Salim bin Khalfan Al Roushdi, Head of the Media Department at Oman Human Rights Commission.
