Udyog Bhawan IED threat email similar to those sent to Mumbai airport, Jaipur collectorate etc

Representational image NEW DELHI: An email threat received by secretary, ministry of heavy industries warning of the use of 'suicide IEDs' in Udyog Bhavan, prompted an alert on Friday afternoon, though a search mounted by the Delhi Police and CISF eventually found it to be a hoax. Udyog Bhawan is located in a high-security area of the Capital that houses Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and key Central government offices. An email dated 30.05.2025 was delivered to secretary, heavy industries, with a threatening message about the use of suicide IEDs on Udyog Bhawan premises and asking that they the building be evacuated by 3.15 pm. This prompted the ministry of heavy industries to inform the Delhi Police, which rushed its personnel and bomb disposal squad there. Sources told TOI that CISF, which secures Udyog Bhavan, was not simultaneously informed about the email and possibly learned of it when the Delhi Police arrived there. CISF eventually also received a formal letter from the ministry of heavy industries, with the threat email attached. A look at the email prima facie led the CISF to view it as part of the pattern of similar email threats received over the past couple of months warning of bomb attacks in different high-value buildings across the country, but which were later found to be a hoax. Anyway, not wanting to leave anything to chance, CISF along with Delhi Police conducted a thorough search of the Udyog Bhawan premises, even though no evacuation was carried out to avoid panic among the people. After floor-by-floor search of the area, the CISF declared the premises to be safe and ruled out the presence of any IED. Similar email threats were received earlier, warning of bomb threats at the Mapusa deputy collector's office in Goa on April 3, the Jaipur collectorate on April 4, the Taj Palace Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji airport terminal in Mumbai on May 17 and the Punjab and Haryana High Court premises on May 22. All were found to be a hoax.

Why Dhanush Was Chosen For APJ Abdul Kalam Biopic, Reveals Director

Chennai: Stating that Dhanush was the "perfect fit" to play Kalam, filmmaker Om Raut has now thanked the actor for choosing to be an integral part of his upcoming film, Kalam: The Missile Man of India. Currently at Cannes 2025, filmmaker Om Raut announced his next directorial venture, a monumental biopic on India's most dearly loved President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. The film's title was unveiled at the prestigious film festival, where Raut also delved into the much-anticipated project and shared insights on casting Dhanush in the lead role. Speaking about the film, Raut said, 'The teachings of Dr. Kalam are instilled in every youth. I read his book 'Wings of Fire' when I was in college, and I can say that everything I am doing today, and everything I aspire to be, is inspired by the teachings in that book. It changed my perspective on life and that is exactly why I am standing here today.' He continued, 'I've always been deeply inspired by Dr. Kalam's journey. From what I've observed, his life was anchored in three key aspects. The first is education. He was a great teacher who placed immense value on quality learning. Second is innovation, particularly indigenous innovation. He encouraged us to develop within our country. And the third is resilience. The willpower to stay committed to our purpose. I always wanted to make a film based on these principles. By God's grace, producer Abhishek Agarwal approached me with the same idea. When he asked if I'd be interested, I told him I was already working on something similar. He flew from Hyderabad to Mumbai, and we discussed it in detail. Eventually, T-Series and Bhushan Kumar, with whom I've worked on two previous films, came on board for this as well. This marks our third collaboration, and we're moving ahead with full force.' Explaining the decision to cast Dhanush, Raut said, 'When portraying Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, it's essential to capture not just his achievements, but also his spiritual journey and teachings. That's the most challenging part of a biopic like this. And I don't think there could have been a better choice than Dhanush to bring this spiritual and intellectual depth to life on screen. He is the perfect fit, and on behalf of my entire team, I thank him for choosing to be a part of this important project.' Known for directing acclaimed films like Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Lokmanya, and others, Om Raut steps into the director's chair for Kalam: The Missile Man of India. The film is headlined by Dhanush and produced by Abhishek Agarwal, the driving force behind The Kashmir Files and Parmanu. The screenplay is written by Saiwyn Quadras, known for his work on impactful biopics like Neerja and Maidaan. With anticipation running high, Kalam: The Missile Man of India promises to delve deep into the life of Dr. Kalam from his humble beginnings in Rameswaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan, as a celebrated aerospace scientist, visionary, teacher, and ultimately, the people's president. Widely known as the Missile Man of India, his legacy, immortalized through Wings of Fire, continues to inspire generations. More than just a film, this project is positioned as a powerful exploration of leadership, nation-building, and integrity a cinematic tribute to a man who shaped the dreams of a nation.

Decoding Vidhana Soudha through a guided tour, one interesting fact at a time

In 1951, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the then Chief Minister of Karnataka K.C. Reddy laid the foundation stone to build 'House of Legislature Mysore' in Bengaluru as a functional building for house proceedings. This is the first stop of the Guided Walking Tour of Vidhana Soudha, which covers eight important locations inside the power centre of the State. Curated over two months, the tour takes its inspiration from the tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The tour aims to inform people about the principles, values, and ideals of the people who built the iconic structure and bring the public closer to governance. Later, when Kengal Hanumanthaiah became the Chief Minister, he took a delegation of Russians, who were visiting, on a tour of the city. One of the delegates then asked Mr. Hanumanthaiah why there were only colonial buildings in the city. This led him to cancel the plan for a functional building and envisioned to build 'a palace for the people' in Indian style. He then contacted B.R. Manickam, the chief architect of Vidhan Soudha, and asked him to build a parliamentary hall, a banquet hall, and a library initially. The same banquet hall is one of the stops on the tour. Adorned with photos of all the Diwans of the Mysore kingdom, the ceiling of the hall showcases floral designs (Tanjore style) made of cement and natural colours. There are 625 such floral designs in the east wing of Vidhana Soudha according to J. Gnanashakher, the parliamentary guide, Speaker's office, Karnataka Legislative Assembly. 'In 1948, the House Committee recommended that they needed a permanent structure for the House legislature. The Speaker then told K.C. Reddy about it. He then invited Sir M. Visvesvaraya and G.H. Krumbiegel to identify a location for the building. They identified this place as it was at a slightly higher level and looked out to the market area on one side and cantonment on the other,' Mr. Gnanashakher explained. The tour then moves towards one of the major attractions – the Legislative Assembly Hall, where the Assembly sessions take place. From the rosewood Speaker's chair, which is still maintained by the Gudikars from Shivamogga, to the teak wood incorporated in the interiors and the pillar-less structure that is supported by the iron chains in the ceiling, the tour offers many insights into the Hall. 'The Assembly Hall is 125 feet in length, 135 feet in breadth, and 40 feet in height. A total of 600 people can sit here and watch the proceedings at once,' Mr. Gnanashakher said. The Sandalwood Model of Vidhan Soudha, the Legislative Council, the statues of Vidhana Soudha, and the Grand Steps are some of the other important locations included in the tour. The script for the tour has been prepared after research by heritage and tourism specialists, highlighting the Neo-Dravidian style of architecture. Apart from public resources, the curators of the tour have also used 'Rare and Magnificent Monument to Democracy and Popular Supremacy - Vidhana Soudha', a book written by veteran journalist and former Chief of Bureau of The Hindu, Bengaluru, C.M. Ramachandra. Among many members of the public who took the free tour on Sunday were pourakarmikas, persons with disabilities, construction workers, and students. 'I work in the ward right next to Vidhana Soudha. I had never imagined that one day I would go inside it and see it in all its glory. I am very happy today,' said Leelavathi, a pourakarmika who took the tour.
