Greater Noida to hire private consultants for urban revamp
In a bid to overhaul key aspects of urban infrastructure and streamline civic services, the Greater Noida Authority has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from private consultancy firms to assist in planning and executing a range of development projects across the city, officials said on Wednesday. The consultant will also assist in planning small food kiosks and micro-markets to support local vendors in a structured and hygienic manner. (HT Archives) The move is aimed at improving public mobility, regulating street vending, modernising infrastructure, and boosting revenue through more efficient use of public spaces, they added. 'A key focus of the consultant's work will be developing designated vending zones across sectors,' said Greater Noida Authority's chief executive officer (CEO) Ravi Kumar NG. With unauthorised kiosks and roadside stalls on the rise, the authority aims to identify legal vending areas based on local demand and traffic movement. Simultaneously, high-congestion areas will be designated as non-vending zones to ensure smoother flow of traffic and safer pedestrian movement, officials said. The consultant will also assist in planning small food kiosks and micro-markets to support local vendors in a structured and hygienic manner. Additionally, the scope of work includes planning and upgrading bus shelters, including integration of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, in view of the authority's upcoming electric bus initiative. As part of a broader regional push, Greater Noida plans to roll out 100 electric buses under a joint 500-bus plan with the Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities, officials said. The last date for submitting EOIs is August 19, with applications set to be opened the following day. Interested firms must email detailed proposals outlining their credentials, technical approach, budget estimates, and a declaration of good standing.

Greater Noida brings OTS scheme for plot owners
GREATER NOIDA: The Greater Noida authority during a board meeting held on Tuesday approved a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme for allottees of multi-storey flats, measuring up to 121 square metres, including economically weaker section (EWS), low income group (LIG), and middle income group (MIG) categories. To boost the city's flood preparedness, the board also approved building a regulator on the Aimanabad Bandh. (Sunil Ghosh/HT Archives) 'The scheme offers relief on interest and late fee dues on unpaid premiums and lease deeds. An estimated 2,000 flat buyers stand to benefit. Many of them have faced delays in executing lease deeds due to mounting dues,' said the authority's chief executive officer Ravi Kumar NG. The scheme will remain effective until December 31. The initiative will help expedite lease registrations and resolve long-pending cases. A formal office order with implementation details will be issued shortly, said officials. Meanwhile, the board meeting, presided over by Uttar Pradesh chief secretary and authority's chairman Manoj Kumar Singh via video conferencing, took a series of important decisions to address civic needs and infrastructure gaps. The discussed issues included the homebuyers, flood safety, and housing for airport security personnel among others. To boost the city's flood preparedness, the board also approved building a regulator on the Aimanabad Bandh. This regulator is designed to prevent Hindon River floodwaters from entering populated areas of Greater Noida during heavy rains. It will also help prevent erosion in areas around the Bisrakh drain, said officials. The Irrigation Department will carry out the construction, while the Greater Noida authority will fund the project with ₹10.56 crore. The funds will be released soon to begin the tender process, they added. To support the upcoming Noida International Airport, the authority also approved a proposal to provide rental housing for Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed for airport security. A total of 467 vacant flats in Sector Omicron 1A, falling under the MIG and LIG categories, will be allocated for this purpose. The move aims to ensure accessible, secure accommodation for CISF staff working at the strategically significant airport, said officials.

Greater Noida set to get 16 more community halls
Noida: A total of 16 new community centres are set to come up across Greater Noida. Work for the same is underway at 12 locations so far, and construction will begin shortly at four other locations. The total cost of the project was pegged at Rs 25 crore. GNIDA CEO Ravi Kumar NG had previously directed the project department to construct new community centres in areas where none exist and to repair those that are already in place but have become dilapidated. Kumar also told officials to ensure that the construction is completed within the stipulated time-frame so that residents can begin using the facilities without delay. According to general manager (project) AK Singh, these centres are currently being developed in sectors Omicron 1A, Xu 1, Xu 2, Xu 3, Eta 1, Zeta 1, Delta 3, Sector 37, Sector 36, Pi 1, Swarn Nagari, and Chipiyana Buzurg. In addition, construction of community centres in Sector 3, Sirsa, Dadha, and Luksar will begin soon," he said. The centres are designed to be two-storey buildings. The ground floor will include a lobby, party hall, kitchen, store, one room, and separate toilets for men and women, while the first floor will house a lobby, library, and additional toilets. Each community centre will also provide parking space for around 50 vehicles. Community centres are essential public spaces where residents can organise events such as weddings, engagements, birthday parties, and cultural programmes. They are also used by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and local authorities for meetings and gatherings. Devendra Tiger, president of Greater Noida's Federation of RWAs, welcomed the move, saying that residents have long demanded community centres in these sectors. "In the absence of such facilities, people were forced to go elsewhere to organise functions. If this is finally happening, we welcome it," Tiger said. He added that the centres' management should be entrusted to the RWAs, who can also take responsibility for their upkeep. Greater Noida has about 30 sectors and over 100 villages, however, only a few sectors like Beta 1, Gamma 1, Alpha 1, Alpha 2, P3, Delta 1, and Delta 2 have community centres at the moment.

Diversions kick in for six-lane underpass to decongest Gaur Chowk
Noida: Vehicles travelling from Bisrakh and Surajpur to Noida have been restricted to the service lane on Greater Noida West Road as excavation on the carriageway began for a six-lane underpass near the congested Gaur Chowk. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The 700-metre underpass, which is to run parallel to the Taj Highway, will allow vehicles coming from Surajpur to bypass the daily bottlenecks at Char Murti roundabout, also called Gaur Chowk, by connecting Greater Noida directly with Gaur City and Delhi-Meerut Expressway ahead. Greater Noida Authority CEO Ravi Kumar NG told TOI that a key section of the carriageway has now been blocked due to digging at the main intersection for the underpass. "Traffic from Bisrakh towards Noida will now use the service lane and then turn left towards Parthala. Commuters heading to Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Gaur City will have to take a left and then a U-turn to proceed. There are no restrictions for people travelling from Noida to Ek Murti Chowk ahead via the Gaur Chowk as the rotary has not been blocked," he said. More diversions are expected on the Taj Highway as the work progresses in the coming days, the official said. The Rs 92-crore project is expected to be ready in 18 months. Of the total length, 350 metres will stretch on either side of the roundabout. The underpass is among the several infrastructure projects undertaken by UP govt in the region, including Noida expressway bypass, Chilla Elevated Road and a flyway linking Ek Murti Chowk to DME, which are on the drawing boards anticipating heavy traffic movement in the area once the Noida airport becomes functional. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Gaur Chowk, a central traffic node in Greater Noida West, a housing hub accommodating over five lakh residents. The six-lane road, already under pressure from traffic pouring in from Noida, Surajpur, Crossings Republik, and the DME. While the Parthala flyover, inaugurated in 2023 on the Vikas Marg-FNG Expressway junction, eased bottlenecks at Parthala Chowk, it shifted the snarls towards Gaur Chowk. Over the years, traffic cops have tried to ease tailbacks by blocking two arms of the rotary and creating two U-turns, about 500 metres away from the intersection. However, with traffic volume increasing continuously, those measures proved inadequate. With more traffic restrictions likely over the next few months before the underpass is ready, motorists fear daily bottlenecks in the area. "While diversions are necessary, they're already causing traffic jams during peak hours. There's also dust pollution, as the contractor isn't following NGT's dust control guidelines," Amarjeet Rathore, a Gaur City resident, said. Meanwhile, despite traffic diversions, a number of bikers were seen plying on the wrong side of the service lane. Ecovillage 1 resident Manish Kumar said, "There was already traffic pressure due to diversion, and now people driving on the wrong side are further worsening the problem. Cops should be deployed in the area to check these violations."

Underpass work at Gaur Chowk begins, traffic diverted; residents complain of jams, dust
The project, costing approximately Rs 92 crore, will directly connect Greater Noida with Gaur City and the DME, bypassing the heavily congested Gaur Chowk. NOIDA: Traffic diversions were implemented at Gaur Chowk as the construction of a six-lane underpass parallel to the Taj Highway gathered momentum. Due to excavation work on the main carriageway of the Greater Noida West road—which connects Bisrakh/Surajpur to Gaur Chowk—Greater Noida Authority and traffic police diverted vehicles to the adjacent service lanes. Now, traffic from Bisrakh towards Noida must use the service lane and then turn left towards Parthala. Commuters heading to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and Gaur City will have to take a left and then a U-turn to proceed. However, people travelling from Noida to Ek Murti via Gaur Chowk and vice versa can navigate as the rotary is not blocked. The 700 m long underpass, running parallel to the 60-metre road, is designed to connect Greater Noida directly with Gaur City and the DME, allowing vehicles to bypass Gaur Chowk altogether. Of the total length, 350 metres will stretch on either side of the Chowk. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 92 crore, and the project timeline is set for one and a half years. Ravi Kumar NG, CEO of Greater Noida Authority, said the digging at the main intersection for underpass work began.
