How Bears RB Kyle Monangai is playing his way to fantasy relevance

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and contributor Ray Garvin highlight Chicago's rookie running back who is creating buzz in a backfield that includes D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript This guy's ranked higher than Woody Marks, and I'm talking about Kyle Mungai of the Chicago Bears. Now, outside of the Dallas Cowboys and the Shadoor Sanders training camp reports, there's probably not more chatter on social media than what's happening in Chicago and this Ben Johnson led offense. A lot of hype and enthusiasm for Caleb Williams and the pass catchers, but not a lot of talk about the running game. You all do know that Ben Johnson had DeAndre Swift in the past, right? We do know that DeAndre Swift wasn't overly efficient in 2024. He's a good player. I like DeAndre Swift, but there is opportunity for another running back to assume some role and some carries in this offense, and all indications are this rookie running back from Rutgers is making the most of his opportunity. You know, sometimes, Matt, what I'm looking for out of some of these reports from these beat reporters or people close to these teams is not necessarily how much they are saying about a player, but what they're not saying about another player. And I have not heard a lot of enthusiasm for Roshawn Johnson. I was a Roshawn Johnson fan coming out of Texas, but I just have not heard a lot of the positive buzz, whether it's coach or beat reporter talk, fan talk, I have not heard a lot of buzz about Roshawn Johnson, but the buzz that we're hearing from Ben Johnson himself, from players on the Chicago Bears, and from their first public scrimmage that was open to people in Chicago, they got to the goal line with the first team offense and you could say, oh, it's veteran, they put DJ Moore in at running back. Then they put Kyle Mungai in at running back to operate at the goal line. So you're talking about an offense that I don't think Ben Johnson's gonna let Caleb run hog wild and do what he wants to do on offense. You're gonna play on schedule, or we're gonna attempt to have you play on schedule. We're gonna run the ball and it's not gonna be just DeAndre Swift. It's not his game. That's probably not where Chicago wants to maximize his skill set. There's going to be another rusher or two in this offense that gets opportunity, and Kyle Munga is that running back. Everything has been glowing. He was an incredible running back out of Rutgers, drafted a lot later. The running backs, I don't care when they get drafted. Yes, if you get drafted where Ashton Gente is, that matters, but is there going to be opportunity right now? He's projected to be that 2nd or 3rd running back. So we're talking about a sleeper, a deep sleeper, but if this offense is gonna take a step forward. And DeAndre Swift is not the bell cow that we look at when we think of a Derrick Henry, when we think of a Saquon Barkley, better believe Kaman N'God better be on your radar. Close

Is Texans' Woody Marks a sneaky late-round steal in PPR?

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and contributor Ray Garvin discuss the Texans' rookie running back and his potential as a pass catcher alongside Nick Chubb and an injured Joe Mixon. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript This is wild. I just, I don't get it. I have been preaching and pounding the table for Woody Marks since the pre-draft process. You're talking about one of the best, if not the best, pass-catching running backs from this 25 draft class. He played five years in college, breaking out his final season at USC with over 1000 yards on the ground, and 260-plus career receptions out of the backfield. Two hundred sixty. He's a running back with 260 receptions, and then the Texans, when they could have drafted a litany of running backs, they said, man, we're gonna trade a 26th pick, move up in the 4th round, and we're taking this guy. That's step one. Step two, this Texas offensive line is a damn mess. They're rebuilding the offensive line. Keyon Green's gone. Laremy Tunsil is gone. Their second-round pick from last year is not performing well at right tackle. They've got Antte Esserry out there on the right right tackle side. And then you got two rookie wide receivers, Christian Kirk and Nico Collins. Nick Chubb, no timetable for, uh, Joe Nixon, no timetable for return. Nick Chubb, I love his game. One of the best to do it during this time. The reports are not glowing about Nick Chubb's ability to hit the second level, and he's never, Matt, he's never been a pass-catching weapon for any team that he's played on. This is a game. Again, almost in a weird roundabout way that we talked about Ricky Pearce, by process of elimination, Woody Marks is going to factor into this offense on a team where the offensive line is sketchy, probably a lot of dump-offs from CJ Stroud. We know he was running around for his life last season. The best thing for Houston is for Nixon to get healthy, but if he's not, Woody Marks, four-minute offense, two-minute drill, passing down situations, and he's not a scrub between the tackles. He's no he's no Nick Chubb, he's no Joe Mixon, and he's never going to be a bell-cow rusher. But Matt, you know, like I know as well as our audience knows that target is worth a lot more than a rush attempt, and this guy is very proficient at doing that. 76 running backs ahead of Woody Marks, like, stop it, stop it. Why Patriots' Pop Douglas is a late-round fantasy steal

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and contributor Ray Garvin examine New England's third-year receiver's fantasy potential with a friendly early-season schedule. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript When I look at Pop Douglas' usage from last season on a high-end outcome, that top 10 percentile outcome based on how he was used in 2024, you're looking at about 13.6 points per game you can expect from him in 2025. That's not groundbreaking. That's nothing that's going to win your league, but if you're talking about a player that's going to be able to give you 12, 13 points per game on a consistent weekly basis potentially on the high end, there's probably gonna be some weeks in which he spikes, in which he pops, and for me, what I'm looking for is I'm chasing the opportunity. If we are expecting this offense to take a step forward, to play better, to utilize their players to their skill set more, there's going to be a beneficiary. And in my, in Josh McDaniel's offense, that is his. Historically been the player occupying that slot role. I don't know how Diggs' knee is gonna hold up, but what I do know is when Pop Douglas was on the field and got some quality targets from some very inconsistent throwers of the football, he's been able to succeed and perform well. So I'm just banking on that trend continuing with Pop getting that usage while everything kind of shakes itself out around him. And if you want to invest into Pop Douglas, cause he's again a guy that is not drafted right now in Yahoo Leagues, expert consensus rank wide receiver 69. I've got him around like 62. He might be a guy that you want to just take with one of your last few picks, stick him at the end of your bench because I don't know if you've seen the early season schedule for the Patriots from a secondary perspective. I just mentioned the Raiders, not a great secondary, they're the first team they're gonna play in week one. The Dolphins, dude, Ray, I mean, I know you used to play ball. I know you tore your Achilles up recently, but like, you might be able to line up at cornerback for the damn Dolphins right now, pal. They do not have a good situation going on there. The Steelers, that's definitely a tougher matchup and the Panthers in week 4. Like, we might come out here and Pop Douglas is a near, you know, 70% of the route sort of player. He's leading the team in targets per route run. The first two weeks of the season's schedule, he might be a guy that people are looking at as a potential Year 3 leap candidate, simply because, like, all right, he crushes it in the first couple of weeks here. Is Bills WR Keon Coleman ready to seize the WR1 role in Buffalo?

Is Bills WR Keon Coleman ready to seize the WR1 role in Buffalo? | Yahoo Fantasy Forecast In our latest Yahoo Fantasy Forecast Matt Harmon and Destination Devy's Ray Garvin attempt to identify this year's breakout wide receiver in fantasy. The two analyze Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman breaking out in 2025. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I do think it's worth throwing Keyon Coleman out here, Ray, because I, look, all of that could be true. Advertisement You know, you can look at his deep red reception perception route tree and still think he's a good pick at wide receiver 51 or 52 just because look, you're attaching again, I know, I, I know he's got, look, nobody knows better than me that he's got problems as a separator. I, I don't think his best deployment is out there at ex-receiver. For every single snap, but based on last year, based on their comments so far this offseason, that's the role that they want Keyon Coleman to have, to be their ex-receiver. I think he'd be better maximized as the guy that you use off the line of scrimmage, a guy that's more of a power slot player. Advertisement He never gonna play in the slot because they got Khalil Shakir, and I think they've kind of ticketed Josh Palmer to be that outside guy that moves around a little bit more than Keyon Coleman. So I, I'm, I'm projecting him as their ex-receiver. Don't love him in that role long term being like a consistent high targeted player. That being said, he's not useless. He's really good on slant routes. He's, he's not great, but he's solid in contested situations, and he's actually really, really good in the same way that Gabe Davis was as a A guy, like, honestly, not a not a good separator, not an ideal fit at X, but just like Gabe Davis, Keon Coleman showed as a rookie. Advertisement He's really good at like getting free on these improv scramble drill plays, which is gonna put big plays in the box score when you got number 17, Josh Allen, as your quarterback. So, um, he might be like a Best ball only guy, but for all my problems with the way the Bills use Keyon Coleman and sort of his player profile, I absolutely don't mind taking a shot on him outside the top 50 receivers. He probably needs a role change or to really, really take a step as a player to be the next JSN, but he's somebody again at that 80P that I don't mind drafting. I, I, I'll just say this, I too, despite some things that concern me when watching Keyon Coleman play, I, I'm a little excited for year two, Keyon Coleman, and I'll just say this, when I'm looking at a result of percent of targets that result in a first down or a touchdown, when I'm lined on the outside, I've got all the receiver names that we talked about today. Advertisement Now all the receiver names on there, uh. Keon Coleman, 40.8%. The only people higher than him was Ricky Piersall, Chris Olave, and Jackson Smith and Jigba. So, I, I mean a better target conversion percentage when aligned on the outside than Downs or Doomsday, R Reed, Pickens, and DeMario. Douglas. So if he can be a more consistent, that's the thing, right? The consistency, the, the talent is there. He absolutely has the talent and the ability to win in the NFL and therefore return fantasy points for us. Can he develop that consistency? The environment should be there. Uh, his role seems to be pretty solidified. Advertisement He wants some more consistency out of Keyon Coleman, but I too, despite a very red, very red tree, Matt, I'm still a little bit in on Keyon Coleman. Reluctantly, because you're just what you're trying to project is him just ascending, right? Natural progression of somebody that we hope works hard, goes out there and he gets a little bit better, right? And I think that is OK to project for Keon Coleman.
