Footy star Reece Walsh launches stunning social media attack on reporter as he sticks up for mate who has been savaged by fans
Broncos superstar Reece Walsh has savaged Adam Hawse on social media after the respected sports radio host told teammate Ezra Mam to cop his criticism from rival fans 'on the chin.' Speaking on his 2GB radio show on Tuesday, Hawse also bluntly told the Broncos five-eighth to 'suck it up'. 'You did the wrong humble, you are lucky to be even playing,' he said. Mam recently returned to the sport following a nine-game NRL ban after crashing his car with illicit drugs in his system and driving without a licence last October. In the shocking incident, Mam veered onto the wrong side of the road, injuring the Uber driver, a female passenger and her young daughter, who suffered a fractured hip. Many outraged footy fans believe the ban was lenient - and Mam should expect to be targeted for the rest of the season. 'If you're genuinely remorseful for your actions which injured a mother and her daughter you have to take it on the chin,' Hawse said. A fired up Walsh saw 2GB's clip - and he publicly attacked Hawse, who also labelled Brisbane's galaxy of stars 'listless' and 'over-rated.' 'How has he not copped it on the chin?,' the fullback posted in response on Instagram. 'You've never stepped onto a field so you wouldn't know what it's like out there, good reporting ADAM.' Walsh also added a clown emoji to emphasise his frustration. In December, Mam received a six-month driving ban and an $850 fine in the Brisbane Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to driving with drugs in his system and without a licence following the incident. He was also fined a total of $120,000 by the Broncos and NRL. When asked if the booing from Sea Eagles fans in Brisbane's last start defeat rattled him, Mam's take was puzzling. The five-eighth linked the criticism to being a victim of racism. Mam felt some supporters went hard at him as they didn't agree with him calling out Roosters enforcer Spencer Leniu, who labelled Mam a 'monkey' in the 2024 NRL double header in Las Vegas. '[Racism] has been in my life my whole life, it's second nature to me,' he said. 'I'm not afraid to stand up for myself and my people, and people who look like me. 'If that means I get booed, I get booed.'

Reece Walsh publicly blasts 2GB journalist over Ezra Mam barbs
Don't miss out on the headlines from Broncos. Followed categories will be added to My News. Broncos superstar Reece Walsh has hit back at 2GB presenter Adam Hawse after the sports radio host told teammate Ezra Mam to cop his criticism on the chin. Hawse on his radio show on Tuesday offered Mam some 'advice', telling the Broncos five-eighth to 'suck it up'. 'If you're genuinely remorseful for your actions which injured a mother and her daughter you have to take it on the chin,' Hawse said. Walsh, seeing the online video immediately hit back in the comments section, ripping in to the radio host and giving his take on the situation in the comments section. Reece Walsh replies to Adam Hawse. Picture: Instagram 'How has he not copped it on the chin?,' Walsh said. 'You've never stepped onto a field so you wouldn't know what it's like out there, good reporting ADAM.' The Broncos five-eighth is two games back from a nine-match suspension for crashing his car with drugs in his system and driving without a licence. Mam, who has been widely booed by crowds since making his return, had a head-on collision with an Uber on October 18 last year when he veered onto the wrong side of the road, injuring the driver, a female passenger and her young daughter, who suffered a fractured hip. Walsh is aiming to make his return for the Broncos against the Titans on Saturday, after suffering a PCL injury against the Warriors earlier this year.

NRL 2025 news: Bulldogs make Lachlan Galvin call, Reece Walsh returns
Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News. The Broncos have received a much-needed boost with superstar fullback Reece Walsh named to return from a knee injury in what could be a late audition for a State of Origin recall for the Maroons. Walsh hasn't played since the round seven loss to the Warriors and has been sorely missed with Brisbane winning just one match since then to heap pressure on coach Michael Maguire. Reece Walsh has been named as the Broncos try to get their season back on track. Picture: Liam Kidston His return means Jesse Arthars shifts back to the wing and Deine Mariner drops out of the 17 for the derby against the Titans, while Pat Carrigan has been named at lock. The Titans have also made a stack of changes with Jojo Fiifta (broken hand) and Sam Verrills (broken thumb) set to be out for two and three weeks respectively. Sean Mullany starts at hooker for the Gold Coast with Allan Fitzgibbon recalled on the wing, while AJ Brimson is listed in the reserves and could be a late inclusion. Lachlan Galvin has been included on an extended bench for the Bulldogs and could make his club debut in jersey 23 against the Eels next Monday. It'll be a spicy affair given the Eels were also trying to sign him, with the Bulldogs set to welcome back powerhouse winger Jacob Kiraz from injury. Lachlan Galvin has been named on an extended bench but is expected to play his first game for the Bulldogs. Tom Trbojevic will be given another week to get his troublesome thigh right, but the Sea Eagles do get his brother Jake back for the trip to Newcastle where the hosts have named Kalyn Ponga after he was rested last week. Tackle-busting machine Greg Marzhew has been named in the reserves and could be a late inclusion for the Knights, while the Storm get Origin duo Harry Grant and Xavier Coates back, with Sua Fa'alogo the unlucky man to drop out. The cavalry is starting to return for the Rabbitohs with veterans Cody Walker and Jack Wighton named to take on the Raiders who have promoted Josh Papalii to the starting side in his record-breaking match alongside Jamal Fogarty who returns from injury. Sevens convert Nathan Lawson has kept his spot for the Dragons with Tyrell Sloan dropped to the reserves for the returning Christian Tuipulotu. They take on a Dolphins side that has Jeremy Marshall-King and Max Plath on an extended bench, while the Sharks have received a double boost with key men Sione Katoa and Teig Wilton cleared to return from injury. Jackson Ford starts in the front row for the Warriors who will be without co-captain Mitch Barnett (knee) for the rest of the season, while Jeral Skelton and Latu Fainu (bench) are back for the Wests Tigers. NRL world unloads on Kalyn Ponga as calls mount for Billy Slater to swing the Origin axe
Superstar fullback Kalyn Ponga may have played his last game in a Maroons jersey after putting in yet another underwhelming display in the State of Origin arena. Coming into Wednesday night's Origin series opener, there was a sense that the 27-year-old was playing for his Origin career, with Reece Walsh set to be back available for selection for Game 2, with his return from a knee injury pencilled in for next weekend. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. Ponga has had a year to forget in clubland to date, with Newcastle struggling for wins and Ponga's attack floundering. As the Knights' focal point in attack and the NRL's highest-paid player, Ponga is incredibly still yet to score a try in the NRL in 2025, has just six try assists and only four line breaks. Many believed he would thrive with more quality around him in the Maroons side. But on Wednesday night, he was arguably one of the worst on the field as Queensland slumped to an 18-6 defeat, in one of their worst collective performances in recent memory. The fullback took the most runs out of any Queensland player, 21, but only managed 163m and struggled to create any real impact. And by full time fans were calling for Billy Slater to axe the No. 1 for the remainder of the series, with Walsh and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow floated as potential replacements. 'Ponga is the highest-paid rugby league player in the world. He is also the most overrated. Not even the sixth best fullback in the NRL,' one fan wrote following his performance in Origin 1. 'Can someone explain the hype about Kalyn Ponga. He's been around for years and I've never seen him do anything incredible,' another added. 'Seriously. How bad is Kaylan Ponga! The most overrated player in the competition,' a third wrote. While others said it was the 'worst Origin performance of all time' and 'he must be dropped after this'. Will Queensland drop Kalyn Ponga? Queensland famously adheres to a 'pick and stick' mentality that stretches back to the beginning of Origin some 45 years ago. However, after going missing in another big game, Slater may be left with no choice but to axe Ponga. Despite Walsh's injury, many were still surprised Ponga got the nod at fullback for Game 1, given he is so badly out of form, with Slater picking him on his reputation. Ponga has struggled to get the Knights' attack clicking in 2025. But in his absence last week, his replacement Fletcher Sharpe, got Newcastle humming, as they put 25 points on the Panthers to register only their second win since Round 2. But while some may argue this year is just a rough patch for the Knights superstar, he has never really stood out in Origin. In Game 3 of 2022, Ponga won Player of the Match, scoring a solo try and recording a match-high 299 run meters. However, that was arguably the only standout performance of his Origin career and is the only time he has crossed the line for the Maroons. And after Wednesday night, it became glaringly obvious that changes need to be made, most notably at fullback. Most likely Slater will revert back to his No. 1 choice Walsh at fullback as he returns from injury. While Tabuai-Fidow could also be an option at the back. Ahead of Game 2, Murray Taulagi and Selwyn Cobbo will be back in the Origin frame as well, meaning either the Hammer or even Valentine Holmes could push back to fullback, with either Taulagi or Cobbo slotting onto the wing.
