'I'm a fashion writer, here's what I packed for a trip to Portugal'
Going to the Mediterranean for a sun-drenched holiday and are in need of some inspirations? Fashion writer Tiffany shared her wardrobe from affordable high street dress to fancy cocktail bar must-have With summer holiday plans coming up, many of us might take a short flight to Europe for a sun-drenched mini break and recently I hopped over to Portugal and visited the amazing seaside town of Cascais. It's where royals once resided and popular with the rich and famous, including footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who is constructing a gargantuan estate there. Jetting off to Portugal takes less than three hours but the hardest part for a fashion journalist is to pack as many outfits as possible in the suitcase with spaces to fit souvenirs too and for a three-day trip, I've sported five outfits including a Columbia co-ord and two Karen Millen dresses that are on 20% off. Whether you want to go as a lowkey backpacker or make the most out of it to visit fancy resorts, my holiday outfit edit could be the wardrobe inspiration for the next trip. Karen Millen Viscose Linen Woven Maxi Prom Dress, £143.19, was £179 Linen has become the quintessential uniform in summer and fashion lovers praise its lightweight yet breathable fabric. The Karen Millen linen dress is an elegant, clean design with thin straps and structured bodice for a flattering silhouette. Available in both petite and regular with sizes up to UK16, I found the petite's dress length best suited for my 5ft3in height and it falls perfectly right above ankles. The dress is great if you want to take memorable snaps with the azure sea in the background and it goes well with wedges like Kate Middleton's Espadrille Wedges or flat mules like this Sunny Emma pair from Reef that I matched with multiple outfits. For accessories, I opted for some gold-tone earrings like the Bali Rose Quartz with 24k gold vermail plated pair from Emma Chapman, which is now reduced from £249 to £170 and a cowrie shell necklace from H&M. Two features that I like about the dress is the deep pockets and the extra layer of fabric in the skirt so the underwear won't be showing even under the strongest sun light. But that adds a bit of weight to the piece overall, which some people might prefer single-fabric dresses. Columbia Elevated View Utility Short Sleeve Shirt and Cargo Skort, £55 each For those going for overseas music festivals like Tomorrowland and Primavera Sound who might want to start planning their outfit soon. For me, I went for a head-to-toe "Fisherman core", completed with a bucket hat and a pair of Teva Hurricane XLT 2 sandals, £70. Both the shirt and skort feature sweat-wicking fabric that draws moisture away from the skin and mesh back venting, to keep me feeling fresh and dry, making it perfect for a hike or a city stroll in hot days. But I'd advise to bring a jacket because when the night falls, it's not keeping me warm enough. Shoppers can also consider PrettyLittleThing's Ecru Contrast Stitched Cropped Denim Shirt and Mini Skirt (£31) for a double denim "cool-girl" look. But the Columbia skort has everything I asked for - it's a pair of shorts with the look of a skirt and it has multiple pockets. I kept my cards, wipes, and even my 6.7-inch iPhone in the zipped pockets - it eliminated the worries of dropping my cards or dancing with the weight of the phone over my neck with a lanyard. TALA Sculpt Seamless Scrunch leggings, £54, and Zip Through Longline Jacket, £64 Packing a gymwear set for holiday is handy whether it's for activities like a scenic hike or a post-feast workout. They are lightweight and easy to fold up with no crease, I pack them as 'spare clothing' most of the time. But on my trip, I have booked a horse riding experience and picked the flattering TALA Sculpt Seamless Set in dark olive marl. The scrunch detail at the back of the leggings defines the bottom and gives a subtle "bum enhancement" with thick waistband to ensure the leggings staying upright. While sitting on the horseback for an hour is nothing like a HIIT workout, there's no discomfort and it holds in place perfectly. The Zip Through Longline Jacke t is perfect to throw on top of my lululemon Sculpt Cropped Tank Top Pleated, which is now reduced to £19, but the jacket runs small in size and it can be tight around the chest. The zipper however is slightly loose, it slips down when it's not fully zipped. Karen Millen Petite Rose Embroidered Cotton Twill Puff Sleeve Woven Dress, £207.20, was £259 To match with the iconic blue and white tiles in Portugal, I've picked up this Karen Millen dress with rose embroidery for a fancy lunch at the Michelin star restaurant at Fortaleza do Guincho. Currently on 20% off and reduced to £207.20 on Debenhams and Karen Millen website, the dress is a stunner. It is very well made with puff sleeves and eyelet details to give me a bit of an oomph. I could see shoppers wearing this to the Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot or summer parties. Designed in a close fit, it moulds my body especially around the waist, which I find is slightly tight, and the heavy cotton fabric adds weight to the piece. But it gives a lovely movement and pairing with nude flat mules making it a perfect duo for a Mediterranean outfit. I completed it with a pair of metal-framed sunglasses and a Loewe basket bag. Next Puff Sleeve Midi Dress in Bright Red, £36 A midi dress is a versatile piece for almost any occasion and this Next midi dress is great for a visit to cocktail bars. The flattering cut with high waistline and A-line skirt flows nicely just above ankle and a gathered waist with elasticated band to keep the silhouette in a desirable hourglass shape. The dress retails at £36 but the smooth fabric and elegant cut made me think it's more expensive. It is easy to wear, just simply pull it on and secure with a button at the back and it goes well with both gold-tone and silver-tone jewellery. The Next dress does not have any zip fastening and the elasticated waist gives a flexibility to the wearer. But one thing that I found uncomfortable with is the missing pockets, how convenient would that be if there were side pockets for a lippy or tissue. To resolve that, I brought a Kipling Eleni handbag, £39, to fit everything I need for a night out.

'Unbelievably comfy' sandals with great arch support are said to help arthritis
If you're looking for a pair of sandals that are comfy enough to wear all day and still look cute on holiday, Reef's sandals could be your answer thanks to their great arch support One of the best parts about summer is being able to pull out your favourite sandals, and the best pair can be worn with everything from jeans and shorts to floaty dresses. However often sandals might look great, but end up rubbing or leaving your feet aching and sore thanks to a lack of support, which makes them unwearable if you're planning on being on your feet all day. However shoppers have found the perfect pair that balances both looks and comfort. The £65 Reef Cushion Rem Hi have gotten an impressive 4.7 star rating from reviewers who raved about how 'comfortable and cute' they are thanks to their great arch support and design. The Cushion Rem Hi sandals have a cage-like design, with adjustable straps across the ankles and toes so you can get a snug, secure fit. The backstrap is elasticated, giving you some added movement and stretch when you walk to prevent rubbing or blisters, and the straps are made from soft webbing which stops any chafing or stiffness. They have a comfortable platform-style sole with Reef's signature cushioned, bouncy footbed that gives you some added spring and absorbs shock while you walk. It's also moulded to give additional arch support and heel cupping, which stops those achey soles you often get with flat-footed sandals. The sandals have a very similar look to the iconic Teva Women's Flatform Universal, which are equally priced at £65. However the Teva's have a more sporty look, with a foam sole rather than a cork footbed which gives them a more casual look, compared to Reef's more polished style. You can also shop similar styles at Hush Puppies, where the Tan Uplift Quarter Strap Sandals are £85 and made from real leather with a bouncy cushioned sole. Alternatively, FitFlop's Adjustable Webbing/Leather Back-Strap Sandals are £80 and have a similar sporty look, with the brand's signature ultra-comfy and supportive soles. However, Reef shoppers seemingly can't get enough of the Cushion Rem Hi sandals, with one writing: 'This shoe is unbelievably comfortable. I am blown away and so happy. I have very messed up feet with years of injuries and surgeries so finding cute shoes that support you are amazing. I cannot rave about these more' Another agreed: 'I have arthritis problems I walk a lot on my vacation. No complaints the sandals were helping me a lot. Highly recommended.' Some faced issues with the fit, with one saying: 'I wear size 10-11 shoes. My feet are very narrow and bony. The plastic triangle that connects the straps near the toes rubbed uncomfortably against the bones of my feet. They were very cute and comfortable otherwise. I wish they worked better for my feet!' Whilst another added: 'These are adorable shoes but the back strap being elastic makes them odd to walk in; as if back strap too loose. Will return but still love Reef shoes.' Others loved them, though, raving: 'I got these a year ago because I needed a cute sandal with good arch support that didn't look like an old lady shoe. This has been SO comfy and cute and I am excited to see all the colorways available this year! I wear a 10-10.5 in women's ultras, but usually size down to a 9 in sandals. A 9 fits perfect in these. I wear a 9 in women's chacos as well for reference. Also I usually run wide, so the adjustable strap is perfect.' The Cushion Rem Hi sandals come in four different colours and styles – black, cream, pink and crochet – and are available in sizes 3 to 9. Reef suggests they generally fit true to size, but suggests to size up if you're between sizes.

Meet the Great Barrier Reef's real-life mermaid
Sponsored content for Queensland show info Alongside dedicated eco-warriors, tourists play a vital role in the future of Australia's Natural Wonder. Swimming with dolphins, coral gardening and listening to the songs of migrating whales - it's all just another day at the office for real-life mermaid Natalie Smith. This 'office' is the Great Barrier Reef, and according to Ms Smith, spending her working days snorkelling and diving in one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World is every bit as magical as it sounds. 'It's still as special to me every day as it is for people who see it for the first time,' she said. 'My favourite part is witnessing their reactions, how excited they are - it fuels my own excitement.' Masters of the deep A marine biologist and tour guide with GBR Biology in Cairns, Ms Smith's job description goes further than showing pretty fish and colourful coral to tourists. Having grown up in the NSW coastal town of Port Macquarie, with the local beach as her playground, her passion for the ocean runs deep. For those who join her tours, it tends to be contagious. Wearing an emblazoned navy polo shirt, a mark of expertise across Great Barrier Reef High Standard tourism operators, Ms Smith is one of 123 people selected for the Master Reef Guide program. Specially trained and identified as the reef's best storytellers, Master Reef Guides are also its greatest ambassadors. Book a reef experience with a Master Reef Guide on board, and you know you're in for something special. 'It's one thing to go out and witness the reef, but to learn about it makes it so much more special and engaging,' Ms Smith said. It helps that there's no shortage of compelling facts to imbue guests with a sense of wonder. Visible from space and roughly covering the same area as Italy or Japan, the reef is home to more than 1500 fish species, some of them predating dinosaurs, plus about 30 species of whales and dolphins, and more than 400 different corals. Marine magic Mind-blowing facts and figures aside, Ms Smith said the inhabitants of the reef do their own heavy-lifting when it comes to making a lasting impression on tourists. 'A couple of months ago, we were snorkelling on the outer edge of the reef when a pod of dolphins swam underneath us, interacted with us, then swam on their way,' Ms Smith said. 'It was an absolutely surreal moment - you couldn't wipe the smile off the guests' faces - or mine.' Whether it's a playful dolphin, a sunshine-yellow butterfly fish, inquisitive turtle or school of parrotfish rivalling the brightest 80s neons, guests always find a creature that speaks to their heart, according to Ms Smith. Underwater pops, crackles and purrs create a lively soundtrack, often with whalesong as the haunting baseline. These encounters can come in various forms, whether snorkelling off a white sand beach on postcard-perfect Fitzroy Island, joining an underwater walking tour with a diving helmet, or over lunch, from a glass-bottom boat. Whale-watching cruises, diving along Australia's continental shelf in the pristine depths of Agincourt Reef, and taking in the enormity of the reef from a sea plane, are among the other ways to experience the magic of the Great Barrier Reef. Advertisement How your visit helps In an industry where conservation and tourism can be competing forces, the Great Barrier Reef is a standout exception. For Ms Smith, taking tourists to various reef locations each day provides a chance to monitor the reef's health, add to data trends and keep track of crown of thorns starfish populations - a prickly pest that destroys coral. Along with adhering to stringent sustainability requirements, various tourism operators across the Great Barrier Reef are involved in supporting its long-term survival, either through donating a portion of profits, their time, or both, to conservation efforts. Whether it's a stay in a luxurious eco-resort, fine dining on a remote island, or sleeping on a glass-bottomed pontoon, travellers can rest easy knowing their holiday is having a positive impact. There are also opportunities for tourists to have a hands-on conservation experience. On previous expeditions, Ms Smith has involved visitors in installing coral stabilisation structures, known as reef stars. These hexagonal metal frames, carrying live coral fragments, are placed across areas of coral rubble, supporting the growth of new coral. Other initiatives have seen tourism operators moonlight as coral farmers, using clips to anchor thousands of coral fragments to bald patches on the reef floor. "When people come to see the reef, they go home loving it and wanting to protect it." There are also opportunities to assist from home. The Great Reef Census is one of several citizen scientist programs, pairing volunteers with AI tools to analyse survey photos of the reef, contributing to an understanding of reef health across hundreds of sites. 'We can all play our part in conserving and protecting the reef - you don't have to be a marine biologist to get involved – you don't even need to be in Australia,' Ms Smith said. 'When people come to see the reef, they go home loving it and wanting to protect it. Quite a few kids come away saying they want to be a marine biologist. When you feel like you've inspired the next generation, you know you've done your job.' Tourism plays a crucial role in protecting the Great Barrier Reef and all visitors pay an environmental management charge (EMC) which contributes to the day-to-day management and conservation of the Reef. The most eco-friendly way to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef is by booking a tour, as most operators include an environmental management charge as part of their ticket price. Look out for operators who have an EcoTourism Australia or EarthCheck certification, and just by experiencing the Reef with these operators, you're contributing to its protection and preservation. Databahn.ai Introduces ‘Data Reef' - An AI Insight Layer Powered by Its Own MCP Server for Smarter Security Data Context
New AI-Powered Insight Layer Transforms Raw Security Telemetry into Real-Time, Contextual Intelligence - Ushering in the Era of the Security Data Reef, Powered by MCP and Cruz Dallas, Texas, United States, May 2, 2025 -- a leader in AI-powered data fabric and pipeline management, today announced the launch of Data Reef, an industry-first solution that transforms high-volume, high-velocity security telemetry into actionable intelligence - precisely when and where it's needed. Enterprises collect petabytes of logs, alerts, and telemetry - but typically analyze less than 5% of it. That small slice often contains the most critical signals. Reef intelligently filters, contextualizes, and prioritizes this high-value data in real time, writing it directly to enterprise-owned data lakes infrastructure. The result: meaningful insights delivered instantly to security analysts and decision-makers. 'Security teams don't need more dashboards - they need answers, they need insights' said Mihir Nair, Head of Architecture & Innovation at 'We've harnessed GenAI to reimagine how teams interact with data - delivering relevant intelligence the moment it's needed. Our new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server advances this vision even further. It helps to seamlessly integrate Reef with Cruz AI – Data Engineer. With a single prompt, users can uncover configurations, inventories, and anomalies - driving faster, smarter decisions.' Built on modular Security Data Fabric, Reef unifies telemetry from all sources into a centralized, searchable metadata layer accessible via natural language. This makes security data not only usable - but useful - for SOC analysts, threat hunters, infrastructure teams, auditors, and even AI systems. 'Unlike lakes or swamps - passive metaphors for storage - Reef is where the signal lives,' added Nithya Nareshkumar, Co-Founder and President of 'It's where your logs stop sitting idle and start telling a story.' With Reef, reinforces its commitment to delivering cutting-edge AI solutions that simplify and scale security data operations. The product is available immediately to existing Security Data Fabric customers and as an insight-layer add-on for enterprises aiming to optimize observability, reduce cost, and enhance security outcomes with AI.
