Sunderland confirm club record £20m signing in first summer transfer after winning promotion to Premier League
SUNDERLAND have confirmed Enzo Le Fee will join them permanently for £20m after helping the club to promotion. The French star, 25, reunited with his former Lorient boss Regis Le Bris in January on a six-month loan from Roma that ended with Championship play-off glory. 4 Winger Le Fee has now penned a four-year contract to become the Black Cats' first summer signing. He said: 'I said before the play-off final that my heart was in Sunderland – I wanted to stay and this made it the most important game of my life. 'Together we did it. From the moment I arrived, I have enjoyed my football, my team-mates, and our supporters. 'We shared an incredible experience, and now we get to take the next step. 'There are greater challenges ahead, but we must face them together. 'And I can't wait to play for Sunderland in the Premier League.' After triggering the clause to make the switch permanent, sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: 'In Enzo, we knew we were acquiring a very high-level player who could be influential in critical moments – the moments that change the outcome of games and seasons. 'He's been a big part of our success, so we're delighted that he's signing permanently and joining us in the Premier League. 'Above all else, he's been a team player, and following our play-off final victory, I think everyone could see exactly what the club means to him.' Since January, Le Fee has scored one goal and provided three assists in 18 Championship appearances, starting 11 of them - including the play-offs. 4 Bruno Fernandes reveals role his wife played in £200m Al-Hilal transfer snub even though Man Utd were ready to cash in Meanwhile, Sunderland are trying to keep hold of Jobe Bellingham after interest from Borussia Dortmund and Frankfurt. The Black Cats could hold out for £25m for Bellingham, 19, who won Championship Young Player of the Year this season. He is the brother of Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, who won the same award in 2020 while playing for Birmingham City. The midfielder could face his older brother in the Club World Club if he joins Jude's former club Dortmund before June 10.

Borussia Dortmund confident of completing Jobe Bellingham signing from Sunderland
Borussia Dortmund are increasingly confident of signing Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland despite interest from Eintracht Frankfurt. As yet, there is no agreement between Dortmund and Sunderland over a transfer fee, but sources close to the deal, speaking on condition of anonymity, were confident that a deal would be struck. Advertisement Jobe is set to emulate his older brother, Jude Bellingham, by making the move to the German team. Jude moved to Dortmund for £20million in 2020 from Birmingham City, aged 17. Jobe played a key role in Sunderland's promotion to the Premier League during the 2024-25 campaign. Deployed in defensive and box-to-box midfield roles by head coach Regis Le Bris, he made 43 appearances and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 play-off final victory over Sheffield United. After the play-off final, Jobe and his parents travelled to Germany to meet with officials at Frankfurt, including head coach Dino Toppmoller and sporting director Markus Krosche, having previously toured the club's facilities in the weeks before. The meeting is said to have gone well; Frankfurt have developed an excellent reputation in their own right for developing young players. But Dortmund have been staging their own charm offensive. Head coach Niko Kovac, sporting director Sebastian Kehl and CEO for sport Lars Ricken all visited Jobe in England at the end of April, with CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke also travelling to the north east on a separate visit. Most recently, in a show of Dortmund's commitment, Kehl flew to Ibiza, where the Bellingham family were on holiday, to further state his club's case. Like his older brother, Jobe came through Birmingham's academy and went on to make 26 first-team appearances. Sunderland signed the then-17-year-old midfielder in the summer of 2023, on the same day Jude signed for Real Madrid. Brentford were interested in signing the teenager last summer, as were Crystal Palace, but Jobe instead signed a contract extension last August, extending his terms until the summer of 2028. Sunderland return to the Premier League next season for the first time in nine years. They suffered back-to-back relegations after finishing the 2016-17 Premier League campaign in 20th position with 24 points. Jobe made 90 appearances for Sunderland, scoring 11 goals and assisting four. Additional reporting: Philip Buckingham

Black Cats praised by BBC podcast team
Sunderland have been chosen as the Team of the Season by the pundits on the 72+ EFL guiding the Black Cats to promotion via a dramatic play-off final win over Sheffield United at Wembley on Saturday, head coach Regis Le Bris was singled out for praise, though he missed out on the Manager of the Season accolade to Charlton's Nathan Jobi McAnuff said: "If you're talking about who has overachieved this season you have to have Regis Le Bris up there because nobody would have had Sunderland getting promoted this season given the model of the club, such a young squad and a manager that was untested in this country. Sensational."The panel were in agreement on Sunderland being the team of the season, however, with McAnuff saying: "A young team, looked as though they had run their race, went on a really bad patch of form but regrouped, got themselves together and had a couple of iconic EFL moments down the stretch - Dan Ballard's last minute winner and Tommy Watson's finish in the final."Lyle Taylor added: "Let's go with Sunderland. They are back at the top table after eight years away and did it in a really interesting and alternative way."Click here to listen to the BBC's 72+ EFL podcast via BBC Sounds.
