Two delegations to present Pakistan's stance on recent Indian aggression

Listen to article Pakistan has sent two high-level delegations abroad to present its stance on recent tensions with India, the Foreign Office said on Monday. A senior delegation comprising three former foreign ministers, ex-diplomats, senators, and a serving minister arrived in New York to begin a diplomatic campaign across key capitals including Washington DC, London, and Brussels. Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Hina Rabbani Khar, and Khurram Dastgir, along with Senators Sherry Rehman, Musadik Malik, Faisal Sabzwari, and Bushra Anjum Butt, and diplomats Jalil Abbas Jilani and Tehmina Janjua, are part of the first delegation. They are set to meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of the UN General Assembly, ambassadors from the P5 countries, and OIC members. The delegation's US engagements begin June 3 with meetings scheduled with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, American lawmakers, think tanks, and media organisations. A separate delegation led by Syed Tariq Fatemi will visit Moscow from June 2 to 4 for consultations with Russian officials and opinion leaders. The Foreign Office stated the mission's aim to highlight Pakistan's peaceful and measured response to what it called 'Indian aggression' and to reaffirm the country's commitment to dialogue, international law, and regional stability. 'Pakistan countering India's false narrative at UN' Meanwhile, Senator Sherry Rehman, a key member of Pakistan's diplomatic delegation to the United Nations, issued a strong statement today from New York, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to exposing India's fabricated propaganda and presenting the country's principled stance on regional peace, international law, and responsible diplomacy. 'Under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, our delegation has launched a full-spectrum diplomatic outreach in New York,' said Senator Rehman. 'We are here not for photo-ops, but for strategic engagement with the international community at the heart of the UN system.' Senator Rehman emphasized that Pakistan is actively presenting its diplomatic agenda, focused on peace, sustainable development, and regional stability. 'Pakistan's image as a responsible and stable middle power is being clearly articulated. We are highlighting our unwavering respect for international law and our constructive role in South Asia's peace and security,' she said. Rejecting India's recent falsehoods, Senator Rehman warned against the dangerous normalization of using baseless terrorism allegations as a pretext for war. 'India's fabricated narrative will not be allowed to masquerade as truth. Using false allegations to justify military aggression is not only irresponsible—it's unacceptable,' she stated. 'Terrorism is a serious global issue and must be dealt with seriously, not exploited for political gain.' Senator Rehman recalled Pakistan's heavy sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. 'We've waged one of the longest and most difficult ground battles against terrorism. Our people have paid with blood and resources. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was herself martyred by extremists. We do not need lectures from those who manufacture threats for electoral theatrics.' Senator Rehman praised Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's leadership on the international stage. 'The Prime Minister has entrusted Chairman Bilawal with the responsibility of presenting Pakistan's clear stance on Indian violations—be it water aggression, Kashmir, or breaches of international peace laws. His response during India's recent military provocations was clear, reasoned, and effective.' Senator Rehman underscored Pakistan's commitment to dialogue and de-escalation, but not at the cost of silence. 'As a responsible nuclear state, Pakistan believes in broad, just, and peaceful engagement. But we will not remain quiet on Prime Minister Modi's reckless and dangerous policies. We will continue to warn the world of their consequences.' Concluding her remarks, Senator Rehman stated, 'Whether it's on the battlefield or the diplomatic front, Pakistan knows how to defend itself. We are here to ensure the world sees through the fog of misinformation—and to reaffirm our enduring commitment to peace and global cooperation.'

Pak passes law to curb child marriages, sets minimum marriage age to 18

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday signed into law a bill fixing the minimum age for marriage at 18 years to curb child marriages despite opposition from right-wing clerics. The Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill, seeking to protect the rights of children and eventually eradicate marriages of children under the age of 18, was sent to the president's approval on May 27 after sailing through both houses of Parliament. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman shared on X a presidential notification related to the approval of the legislation. The Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill, 2025 is assented to, as passed by the Parliament, the notification read. Rehman said that the approval of the bill was successful despite resistance from various sections, adding that President Zardari signed the bill despite pressure. The signing of the Child Marriage Restraint Bill is a symbol of a new era of reforms in Pakistan, she said. She hailed the approval as a victory for the protection of the rights of women and children, adding, This law was possible after a long and difficult struggle. This bill is not just a law, it is a commitment that our girls have the right to education, health and a prosperous life, Rehman continued. She thanked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, party leaders, other political parties and representatives of the opposition and the public for their support to the bill. Earlier, CII member Maulana Jalaludin, who belongs to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), said President Zardari should prevent anarchy in society by not signing the bill.

Moment driver who took 20 lines of cocaine before killing girl, 3, is arrested

Bodycam footage captured the moment Rawal Rehman, 36, was tackled to the ground by officers who stormed a porperty and handcuffed him as he repeatedly cried 'I'm sorry' This is the moment a driver who took "at least 20 lines of cocaine" before smashing into and killing a three-year-old girl was arrested by police. Bodycam footage released by Greater Manchester Police captured the moment Rawal Rehman, 36, was tackled to the ground by officers who stormed a property and handcuffed him as he repeatedly cried 'I'm sorry'. Rehman, of Lambton Road, Chorlton, lost control of his Mercedes Sprinter van before it struck three-year-old Louisa Palmisano on a pavement in Manchester city centre on February 22. The youngster had been with her parents on a family trip to the city when Rehman's vehicle slammed into a tram, forcing his van onto the pavement where it collided with the three-year-old and both her parents. ‌ ‌ He then fled the scene of the collision in Mosley Street at roughly 10am before he was later arrested. Rehman was jailed for 12 years at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday. Prosecutor Rachel Shenton said he had visited two massage parlours in the city in the early hours of February 22 before the fatal collision. She told Manchester Crown Court that the defendant had taken "at least 20 lines of cocaine" in the space of seven hours. Following the youngster's death, her family from Burnley, Lancashire, said in a heartbreaking tribute: "Louisa (Lulu) was the sweetest, kindest, and most generous little girl. "She was full of creativity and joy, and she absolutely loved going to nursery every day. Her absence has left a devastating void in our family - she was our only child, our whole world. "We were simply enjoying a happy family day out in Manchester when this unimaginable tragedy struck. In an instant, our lives were shattered beyond repair. The pain of losing her is unbearable, and we miss her more than words can ever express." In a statement, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Rehman ignored stop signs and gave the tram driver no time to react before it struck the side of the van, which then mounted the pavement. ‌ Abbie Clarke, senior crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said: 'Our thoughts go out to Lulu's family who must bear this unimaginable loss. Rawal Rehman ignored the stop signs and tram warning signs when he drove straight into the path of an oncoming tram, and it is clear his driving fell far short of what is expected of a competent and careful driver. 'Rehman failed to take responsibility for his actions. He fled the scene in a taxi and denied that he drove dangerously in interview, only accepting responsibility on his third hearing before the court. He must now face the consequences for his role in this wholly avoidable tragedy.' In 2017 Rehman was jailed for three years for conspiracy to pervert the course after he torched a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision which killed a 25-year-old man in Chorlton, Manchester. Rehman was remanded in custody until sentencing on May 27 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared

Driver jailed for killing girl, 3, in crash after taking 20 lines of cocaine

Rawal Rehman, 36, of Lambton Road, Manchester, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after hitting the youngster with his Mercedes Sprinter van. Louisa Palmisano, known as Lulu, died in hospital from her injuries after she was struck while walking with her parents on a family visit to Manchester on February 22. Rehman left the scene of the crash in Mosley Street at about 10am before he was later arrested. Judge Alan Conrad KC sentenced him to 12 years in jail at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday. The court previously heard that Rehman had visited two massage parlours in the city in the early hours of February 22 and had taken 'at least 20 lines of cocaine' in seven hours. CCTV of the incident was played to the court, showing the family walking along the pavement, with Lulu between her parents, holding their hands. Rehman failed to stop at the junction, despite large stop signs and warnings written on the road. The side of his van was then hit by an oncoming tram, forcing his vehicle on to the pavement and into the family, knocking the parents aside. Rehman, who had his hood up, got out of the van and walked around the vehicle before retrieving his phone and leaving the scene. Prosecutor Rachel Shenton told the court the van's MOT had lapsed and there were a number of defects with the vehicle, though none was serious enough to have contributed to the incident. Rehman had a number of previous convictions, including being jailed in 2017 for three years for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after he torched a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision which killed a 25-year-old man in Chorlton, Manchester. David Toal, appearing for the defence, said his client had admitted to things the prosecution had no evidence for, which showed he was taking responsibility, and had planned to hand himself in to the police before his arrest. He said: 'An aggravating factor is that he left the scene – there is no excuse for this. 'His explanation is that he panicked and that panic turned into shock when he learned via social media that a young girl had lost her life.' In a statement following Lulu's death, her family, from Burnley, Lancashire, said: 'Louisa was the sweetest, kindest, and most generous little girl. 'She was full of creativity and joy, and she absolutely loved going to nursery every day. 'Her absence has left a devastating void in our family – she was our only child, our whole world. 'We were simply enjoying a happy family day out in Manchester when this unimaginable tragedy struck. 'In an instant, our lives were shattered beyond repair. 'The pain of losing her is unbearable, and we miss her more than words can ever express.'
