Joy Reid sees career ROCKET after her firing from MSNBC

Joy Reid appears to have found a silver lining after her firing from MSNBC earlier this year. The polarizing pundit has amassed more than 168,000 followers on her Substack account, which she began writing for in earnest after her February ouster from the network. On Monday, the former Reid Out host announced that she was a 'Substack Bestseller with thousands of paid subscribers.' While it's unclear how many of her 168,000-plus followers shell out the $8 monthly subscription fee, even a small percentage of paying customers would potentially net Reid six figures per month. 'At the start of the year, I had a grand total of nine thousand subscribers, who mostly came to this page (then called "And another thing with Joy") to read my occasional posts, and to live chat with me as I sat on set at 30 Rock during MSNBC special coverage,' Reid wrote on Monday. 'That modest growth ended abruptly in January, when my then boss, the MSNBC president, told me I wasn't allowed to have a Substack. 'I didn't delete it, though. I just stopped posting. So on my "liberation day," I started writing here again. 'Fast forward six months, and those nine thousand readers now exceed one hundred sixty eight thousand.' Former MSNBC host Joy Reid has amassed more than 168,000 followers on her Substack account, which she began writing for in earnest after her February ouster from the network Reid celebrated the achievement in her Welcome to Joy's House! newsletter, which has become a 'Substack Bestseller' Other paid plans for her Substack musings include an annual subscription for $80 and a yearly 'Founding Member' subscription for $240. Substack takes a 10 percent commission from each of its authors - as well as a four percent surcharge per payment - leaving Reid with plenty left over to pay the bills. Even if just 5,000 of her subscribers opted for the yearly plan, she would still be raking in a cool $360,000 a year. That doesn't account for any revenue earned from her YouTube series, The Joy Reid Show, which launched on June 9 and counts more than 243,000 subscribers. YouTubers with 100,000 subscribers can make anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 per month, according to Podcastle. Reid, 56, joins a long list of journalists, including Jim Acosta and Terry Moran, to go independent after bitter breakups with their mainstream outlets. Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta, for example, has amassed just over 300,000 subscribers on Substack after his resignation from the network in early January. Reid, who rankled MSNBC brass with her extreme online rants, was fired in late February by the network's new boss. In January, Reid compared President Donald Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler on Holocaust Remembrance Day. Network bosses began plotting to get rid of Reid in late 2023 and ultimately offered her a one-year contract extension, while also cutting her pay in the hopes she'd take the hint and quit. When Reid was finally let go, her ratings were down from a high of 3 million viewers per episode in her first year on the air in 2020 to a low of 1.1 million. Daily Mail has reached out to Reid's people for comment.

Joy Reid ‘barely hanging on' with Democratic Party

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid criticized the Democratic Party on Tuesday, slamming it for being 'too orderly.' 'I've been a Democrat since I was old enough to vote, but I'm barely hanging on, honestly, because at this point the party is not bigger than the future of my kids…,' Reid said during an appearance on 'The Breakfast Club' in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. Her hit show the 'Reid Out' was canceled in February but she's remained a vocal critic of the Trump administration online and on air. 'I'm not willing to cede the country to Trumpism and MAGA simply because I'm clinging to this party,' she told host Charlamagne tha God. She applauded ex-White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for leaving the party amid the absence of a leader. Reid said she desired an 'effective fighter' to take the ropes of the Democratic caucus to go toe to toe with President Trump. 'If Jasmine Crockett is the most effective fighter, give me Jasmine Crockett. And I really don't care what you have to move around or who you have to disappoint in order to give me her,' Reid said. 'Just give me her because we need a leader.' The former MSNBC commentator said Democrats are over structured and it's leading to their own demise. 'They prioritize whose turn it is. Like, Democrats are very orderly,' Reid said. 'They're almost too orderly for fascism. In fascism, you can't be orderly because the other side is messy.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Joy Reid claims MSNBC fired her without warning, speculates her coverage of Trump, Gaza led to ouster

Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid speculated Tuesday that her coverage of President Donald Trump and the ongoing war in Gaza were unstated factors that led to her sudden ouster from the liberal network. During her appearance on 'The Breakfast Club,' Reid was asked what was behind her firing from MSNBC in February, insisting it wasn't a ratings issue despite the fact that the network's viewership took a huge dive after the 2024 election. 'And we had actually just had a ratings meeting, like, two weeks before I was fired, where they were like, 'You guys are actually losing – you guys lost less than, you know, your competitors, and you're actually doing fine,'' Reid said. 'So ratings were fine. We were doing fine. And you know, the ratings have not gotten better since I left.' Reid then pointed to a report about her being on the chopping block that surfaced the Friday before she was fired, which she at first thought was just a 'rumor,' but her producers began 'freaking out' over what was alleged. 'We hadn't heard anything,' Reid said. 'Nobody had called me. Nobody had said, 'You did something wrong, you're in trouble, you're on probation.' I had gotten nothing. Then I get a text message early the next morning saying, 'Can you talk at noon?' And I was fired immediately. There was no warning. And I asked, 'Well, what, you know, what's the [issue]?' Nothing. They were just like, 'Oh, we just want to make some changes.' They never said why. So I've had to live in the rumor mill with everybody else.' Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid claims her coverage of President Donald Trump and the Israel-Hamas war led her to being fired. MSNBC The former 'ReidOut' host went on to claim there were 'two topics' that had made MSNBC management 'uncomfortable.' 'One of them is Trump, because Trump is suing everybody,' Reid said. 'I mean, he's literally threatening people to the point where '60 Minutes' is shook, where ABC News is shook. You know, he's verbally threatened Comcast by name, named [Comcast CEO] Brian Roberts by name, and all of these are businesses that want to do business that need the FCC approval. They actually have to have the federal government's approval to do mergers, acquisitions… He can pull your license… so it's like everybody is trying to navigate this really deranged man. So I think they're activating out of a sense of 'we don't want to poke the bear too much.'' Reid made an appearance on 'The Breakfast Club,' and claims ratings were not a factor in her show being cancelled. YouTube / Win With Black Women 'I think the other piece is Gaza,' she continued. 'And you just can't get away from the fact that talking about Gaza in a way that humanizes Palestinians is not the usual way that cable news operates, or that any news in this country operates for whatever reason, that topic makes people uncomfortable.' MSNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Reid remained defiant following her ousting, saying at the time that she would not apologize for going 'hard' on issues like Black Lives Matter, illegal immigrants, the 1619 Project and Gaza, as well as her opposition to Trump. 'I am not sorry I stood up for those things because those things are of God,' Reid said in February. 'And you know, I'm a church girl, too, and those are the things that I was taught were of God. So I'm not sorry. I'm just proud of my show.'

Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid claims Roman Empire fell because of no diversity, warns US will be next

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid blamed a lack of diversity for the fall of the Roman Empire and claimed the United States could go the same way if they don't embrace DEI. The former "ReidOut" host, along with left-wing political commentator Wajahat Ali, criticized corporations like Walmart and Target on Thursday for scaling back diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) during the Trump administration. Reid claimed that business and countries need diversity to not only thrive but survive as a nation, comparing it to the Roman Empire and Europe. Joy Reid Blasts 'Rich, White' Dems For Turning On Biden: Trump Would Let Protesters Get 'Shot In The Streets' "If you take that away and try to distill us just down to White folks, we'll be like Europe, an aging, slowly dying former empire," Reid said during a live Substack video. "The Roman Empire didn't survive because it didn't have enough strength in its diversity. It suppressed its diversity, and it died. If the U.S. wants to be the Roman Empire, keep voting the way you voting, y'all." Earlier in the podcast, Reid argued corporations appealing to White populations would essentially be targeting customers aged 60 and up, calling them a "finite quantity" that are "going to die." Read On The Fox News App "If you're under the age of 20 right now, your generational group, the Gen Alpha group, are already majority non-White," Reid said. "So it's fait accompli. In 2045, the United States will be a country that no longer has a White majority." Click Here For More Coverage Of Media And Culture She continued, "We are essentially a Latin American country, and we're going to look more like Latin American countries, which we kind of are, right? We're going to look more like our region where most people will be brown, and the majority will not be White. Texas is already there. California is already there. The whole country is going in that direction." Prior to being let go from MSNBC, Reid frequently attacked White people as a voting bloc on her show and on the network, blaming White women for then-Vice President Kamala Harris losing the election in article source: Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid claims Roman Empire fell because of no diversity, warns US will be next
