Delhi govt to provide subsidies to promote e-vehicles, says CM Gupta
New Delhi: Delhi government will provide subsidies to people to promote electric vehicle adoption in Delhi in its new policy, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. Delivering a valedictory address at Aironomics, 2025 convention, she highlighted Delhi government's different initiatives to combat air pollution. Transformation of all the vehicles, including private ones, into electric vehicles (EVs) is a big vision for which Delhi government is coming up with a new EV policy, she said. "We will urge people to purchase electric vehicles for which they will be provided subsidies," she said. Gupta also said that air pollution is a year long problem that required sustained efforts for which her government is hiring 1000 water sprinklers to be used to combat dust on the roads through out the year. Live Events "In view of traffic, these sprinklers will operate in early morning and late night hours so that no congestion is there on the roads," she said. Further, the government is also deploying integrated machines across 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi that will perform the task of mechanical sweeping of the roads, water sprinkling and litter collection, she said. She urged the gathering to join the mission to ensure a clean green Delhi by contributing to government's initiatives to check biomass burning , expanding green cover cover and EV adoption. Former New and Renewable Energy Secretary Bhupinder Bhalla speaking on air quality in the capital said that the Central government and Delhi government need to align their efforts to check pollution in the city. According to a statement, several panelists discussed, 'Turning the Tide: Delhi's moment to lead on clean air' session held under the broader Aironomics 2025 convention, hosted by the Bharat Climate Forum (BCF), Dalberg Advisors and the Council for International Economic Understanding (CIEU). "Earlier one would say not much is happening, but now there's momentum. Now there are two common governments with a common agenda in Delhi. Now even the local bodies are also on the same page. Therefore, anything that is decided will be implemented by everyone and at a much faster pace," Bhalla told PTI. Also speaking at the session, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) Chairman Sanjiv Kumar spoke about the need for cost-efficient, real-time pollution monitoring systems. "We want to improve efficiency so that we can do more coverage and find better solutions. If we can identify whether a plant in a particular location is causing a surge, we'll be able to intervene more effectively," he said. The summit also launched Phase 2 of the Air Quality Action Forum (AQAF), jointly announced by Paytm Foundation and UNEP. The platform will support cities and innovators with tools, data, and financing models to scale local clean air solutions, added the statement.

Won't demolish slums, dwellers are city's lifeline: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi: Describing slum dwellers as service providers and the lifeline of Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday assured that no slum colonies in the city will be demolished without rehabilitation. She also announced that Rs 700 crore has been allocated for carrying out development works like toilets and washrooms for women in slums. In a special conversation hosted by actor Anupam Kher at the '100 Din Sewa Ke' event organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to mark 100 days of the BJP government, CM Gupta sympathised with slum dwellers in the city, saying, 'None of the previous governments really cared for them. They have been living in slums for decades.' Dismissing rumours spread by the opposition regarding slum demolitions, she said, 'Unless every slum dweller receives a permanent home, they will continue to live in their current shelter — but with improved facilities and dignity.' Criticising the previous AAP government and its false promises, CM Gupta said, 'While they sat in Sheeshmahal, we have rebuilt Delhi with honesty.' She also highlighted how the PM-JAY health insurance scheme was approved in the very first Cabinet meeting. On the health front, the CM said, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has also been implemented across hospitals, where Jan Aushadhi Kendras are being set up. Further, advanced healthcare units such as LMU, NAT testing, and a medical genetics ward have been established at Lok Nayak Hospital, ensuring high-quality care. Talking about achievements in the education sector, she said, 'While previous governments only focused on publicity, we approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation & Regulation of Fees) Bill 2025 to end the arbitrariness of private schools.' The CM also hit out at the previous AAP government for leaving behind mountains of waste, turning Delhi into a landfill. She said her government has taken concrete steps to eliminate these legacy waste sites, as 24x7 legacy waste processing has been started, with about 30,000 metric tonnes of garbage being biomined daily. 'Waste-to-energy plant installations are progressing swiftly. The target is to completely remove the Bhalaswa and Okhla landfill sites within the next two years,' she said. Currently, Delhi has four operational waste-to-energy plants, and two new plants in Narela and Ghazipur are under rapid construction. Expansions of the Okhla and Tehkhand plants are also underway. Moreover, a modern e-waste park is being developed in Holambi Kalan, she said. Talking about environmental protection, CM Gupta criticised the previous government for turning Delhi into a gas chamber. In contrast, she said, her government has prioritised pollution control by deploying 1,000 sprinklers throughout the year and approving 70 advanced mechanical road sweeping machines. 'Installation of smog guns in all high-rise buildings has also been made mandatory. Additionally, under the DEVi (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector) initiative, 460 electric buses have been introduced for last-mile connectivity, and 2,000 more electric buses will be added by the end of the year,' she said. On the Yamuna River, the CM highlighted that the previous government merely put up a show in the name of cleaning the river, while untreated sewage continued to flow into it. In contrast, her government made the rejuvenation of Yamuna a top priority from day one, she said.

Celebrating 100 days of her govt, Delhi CM pits ‘AAP's misgovernance' vs ‘BJP's public service'
An hour-long conversation between Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and actor Anupam Kher about the initiatives and decisions taken by the BJP government since it was elected in the Capital in February headlined the event held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday to mark 100 days of the party in power. Thousands of people, including senior party leaders, MLAs and ministers, were in attendance at the event where the CM unleashed an attack on the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for making 'false promises' to people and being 'unapproachable'. Good governance, public welfare, and structural reforms remained the talking points of the session as Gupta highlighted the Centre's support for her government and spoke about the political will to clean Yamuna and make the Capital more livable. Taking a jibe at former chief minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Gupta claimed her government bridged the gap with bureaucrats. 'Even the bureaucrats and officials were scared to enter the previous CM's office and give their suggestions… Now we are having meetings and discussions with officials daily and taking their opinions on policy making and implementation,' she said. She yet again targeted Kejriwal for living in a 'lavish bungalow with curtains and TVs worth crores', which was dubbed as 'Sheesh Mahal' or glass palace by PM Narendra Modi during the Delhi Assembly election campaign. 'They made only fake promises for 10-11 years…I am not saying that we have changed the entire city in 100 days…But we are spending time on the ground with people, including their suggestions and making policies and a roadmap for the betterment of Delhi… Till we don't go among them and understand their problems, we cannot change things,' Gupta said. She added, 'We can't make false promises like cleaning Yamuna and removing the garbage mountains in one year like the previous governments…We will not set a target but show the progress. People will slowly forget the previous government (AAP and Congress), which had made Delhi hell.' She said that her government has held eight Cabinet meetings since coming to power to discuss key policies and projects, and gave approval to big schemes like the Centre's flagship Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, and a comprehensive plan to clean Delhi and mitigate pollution. In a bid to address public grievances, the CM has been holding jan sunwai camps for public grievances. She also outlined the government's achievements and decisions taken in various sectors, including education, health, and transport, like the introduction of a Bill to regulate school fees, the inauguration of DEVI buses, and the Ayushman Bharat scheme. She also addressed the criticism from the Opposition that has come her way in the last few months. On the delay in delivering the Mahila Samriddhi scheme, which promises a monthly aid of Rs 2,500 to women from economically weaker sections, she said, 'For this, we have allocated a budget of ₹5,100 crore. To ensure proper implementation of this scheme, we have already held six meetings where we are discussing eligibility criteria because we do not want a situation like what happened in (Congress-ruled) Himachal Pradesh or (AAP-ruled) Punjab.' She also hit out at the AAP for 'breaking public trust' with corrupt practices while accusing the Opposition of spreading rumours about the demolition of slums. 'These rumours are baseless. No slum will be demolished. We have allocated Rs 700 crore to provide basic amenities to people living in slums, which the previous government never did… Every slum dweller will get a permanent house, and until then, they will continue to live in their current slums—but with much better facilities and a dignified standard of living.' Meanwhile, Anupam Kher, in a post on X, said he met Gupta for the first time at the event. 'It was my pleasure to ask questions to Rekha Gupta ji on behalf of the people of Delhi! In a one-hour session, she answered to the best of her knowledge and with zest. This was the first time I met her and she comes across as a lady who knows what she is talking about! There is a certain earnestness about her. And I hope she retains it,' he posted. Following a landslide victory in February, the BJP returned to power in the Capital after 27 years, and ended 10 years of AAP rule.

"She answered them truthfully and vocally...": Anupam Kher praises Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for honest answers at 100-day event
New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Anupam Kher, who took part in the Delhi government's special event, '100 Din Seva Ke', to mark 100 days of BJP governance in the capital, praised Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for answering public concerns openly and honestly. While speaking to ANI, Kher shared that the questions he raised during his interaction with the CM were collected from his own network of friends, relatives, and people living in Delhi. He said the issues he brought up reflected the voices of the citizens. 'My questions were the questions of the public of Delhi... I collected the questions from my relatives, friends, and other people of Delhi. She (Delhi CM Rekha Gupta) answered them truthfully and vocally... I hope that what she spoke about today with truth resonates even after four years of her completion,' Kher told ANI. Earlier in the day, Kher sat down with the Delhi CM, where she shared details about the work done by her government in the first 100 days. During the conversation, the Delhi CM also tore into her predecessor, saying that they had claimed to be common people who became greedy for power, while her government was working on the streets among the people. 'When the movement started from Ramlila Maidan, thousands and lakhs of people joined it. I joined too, and others also joined... Everyone supported it, thinking something better would happen in Delhi and the country. Those people who used to say that they are not greedy for power became so greedy that they could not see anything except power. My cabinet, our MLAs, and all the public representatives continuously work on the streets among the people...' The Delhi CM also criticized the previous AAP government for questioning the valor of the Armed Forces. Speaking with actor Anupam Kher, Rekha Gupta said, 'I feel very sad when I think about those people who used to sit in the chair (of Chief Minister) and raised questions on the Indian Armed Forces and used to join hands with the enemies of the nation... Operation Sindoor increased the respect for women. I thank PM Modi for that... All the women of the nation salute the armed forces for destroying the terrorist sites in enemy territory...' She added that the bravery shown by the armed forces had strengthened the pride of Indian women. 'Together we bow down to those who have shown bravery in Operation Sindoor,' she said. Later, she recited a poem titled 'I Am Sindoor Too.' 'I am patient in silence, I am brave in challenge. Yes, I am Sindoor too. I am the slaughterer of terrorists, I am the limit of courage, I am Jeevan Daatri, I am Sahar's Sakshi, I am Vermilion. I am the gift of every daughter-in-law. I am India's tomorrow, and today I am Hindustani modesty. Yes, I am Sindoor.' (ANI)
