Juventus suffer fresh injury blow amid selection crisis in defence
There's worrying news from Turin as Juventus defender Renato Veiga trained separately this morning, potentially worsening Igor Tudor's selection crisis in defence for a key game at Venezia. Portuguese defender Renato Veiga did not train with the rest of the Juventus squad this morning due to a muscle issue, reports. According to the Turin-based media outlet, Veiga is dealing with muscle fatigue. It's pretty bad news for coach Tudor, given that Federico Gatti, another centre-back, continued to train separately on Friday, like central midfielders Teun Koopmeiners and Weston McKennie. Juventus are already without injured defenders Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, and the suspended Pierre Kalulu. The Bianconeri are fighting for a Champions League spot, and a win in the season's final game against strugglers Venezia would give them access to Europe's elite competition for 2025-26. Lloyd Kelly returned to action last week after recovering from a hamstring injury. As things stand, the ex-Newcastle defender is set to start in a three-man backline against Venezia, joining Alberto Costa and Nicolò Savona.

Report: Chelsea receive worrying Renato Veiga update
Report: Chelsea receive worrying Renato Veiga update Chelsea sent Renato Veiga to Juventus on loan during the winter transfer window, hoping he'd get regular minutes on the pitch – but that has not been the case. The youngster initially made a handful of appearances, three in Serie A and two in the Champions League, but an injury halted his momentum. Since returning, he's struggled to make an impact. He featured in Juventus' defeat to Fiorentina over a week ago but was subbed off early in the second half. Advertisement According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via SportNapoli, Juventus are unlikely to extend his stay. The club isn't convinced by the 21-year-old, and all signs point to him heading back to Chelsea once the season ends. Earlier in his loan spell, there was talk that Juventus might push to sign him permanently. But with his form dipping that option now seems off the table. The Portuguese talent had joined Chelsea from FC Basel for £11.8 million in July 2024 but managed only one Premier League start among 18 appearances, often deployed out of his preferred centre-back position. Juventus now believe that sending youngster back to Chelsea may be best course of action Thiago Motta was relieved of his duties (Photo by) Juventus are grappling with defensive injuries to key players like Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal, so they saw Veiga as a timely reinforcement. They secured his services on a loan deal worth approximately £4.2 million, covering his wages without an option to buy. Advertisement Upon his arrival in Turin, Veiga made an immediate impact. He started all five matches for Juventus, including a standout performance in a 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Inter Milan. However, Veiga's momentum was disrupted by a leg injury sustained during a Champions League playoff loss to PSV Eindhoven. Diagnostic tests revealed tendon damage in his right leg, sidelining him for two to three weeks . His return to action against Fiorentina was less than stellar; he was substituted early in the second half during a 3-0 defeat, reflecting a dip in form.

Juve fall in Florence
A difficult week comes to an end for Juventus. The Bianconeri lost 3-0 away to Fiorentina on Serie A Matchday 29. Despite looking to attack early on and Timothy Weah being the first to press forward from either side, the hosts reacted immediately. Khephren Thuram also looked to force things for the Bianconeri, but it wasn't to be. And after some early ventures forward from Juve, Fiorentina went ahead after 15 minutes through Robin Gosens, who pounced as a loose ball fell to him in the box to beat Michele Di Gregorio. The lead was doubled just minutes later through Rolando Mandragora. Two goals behind, the Bianconeri tried to fight back. Renato Veiga struck from the edge of the box in the 24th minute, but his left-footed shot was blocked by Danilo Cataldi. In the 29th minute, it was Teun Koopmeiners' turn to try with his left foot from distance, but his aim was off and the ball flew high over the crossbar. The hosts threatened again towards the end of the half, but there were to be no more goals before the break. After the restart, Juventus looked to attack knowing a goal was needed, and Weston McKennie had a good chance but Luca Ranieri did well to stop it. Then Renato Veiga had another, but David De Gea stopped it. Moise Kean looked for Fiorentina's third, but it was Albert Gudmundsson who got it. Kean thought he had a fourth, but the offside flag thwarted him. Other chances fell Juventus' way through Randal Kolo Muani, and Andrea Cambiaso looked to force things in his time on the pitch, but there was to be no goal for the Bianconeri.
