Form Guide: Who will win at the TV Week Logie Awards 2025
TV's night of nights is just hours away and while the race is still open for stars — with voting closing later on Sunday — it's also a great chance for viewers to suss out shows they may have missed over the past year. The 65th Annual TV Week Logie Awards features a particularly stacked field of nominees — especially when it comes to that coveted Gold Logie, with more women in contention for the top gong than ever before. Will it be one of the newcomers like Poh Ling Yeow, Ally Langdon or Lisa Millar? Or will perennial favourite Lynne McGranger take it home for her stellar 33-year run on Home And Away? Here's our form guide of nominees and tips for winners. Ally Langdon Hamish Blake Julia Morris Lisa Millar Lynne McGranger Poh Ling Yeow Sonia Kruger Clare's pick: Lynne McGranger She was on Home And Away for a record-breaking 33 years before retiring earlier this year — surely McGranger deserves to go out with Aussie TV's highest honour? She'll have stiff competition from perennial favourite Hamish Blake and Muster Dog wrangler Lisa Millar. Lynne McGranger. Gary Lineker Suggests BBC Wanted Him To Leave ‘Match Of The Day'
Gary Lineker, who is soon to hang up his Match of the Day boots after 25 years, has said he felt the BBC wanted him to leave the weekly highlights show. Lineker, who has had a chequered relationship with the national broadcaster over the past couple of years, told BBC presenter Amol Rajan 'perhaps they wanted me to leave… there was a sense of that' when discussing his exit. More from Deadline Jeff Pope Criticizes Recent BBC & Channel 4 Documentaries Over Their Depiction Of Killing Of Jean Charles De Menezes As Disney+ Drama 'Suspect' Prepares For Launch BBC "Confirms Start Of Production On Series 2 Of 'Return To Paradise'" - report Russell T. Davies Has "No Time" For Critics Of 'Doctor Who's "Wokeness" He was responding to a question from Rajan for an Amol Rajan Interviews episode on why he is choosing to leave now when the show is doing so well. 'Perhaps they wanted me to leave,' was Lineker's response. Lineker, who is being replaced by three hosts next season, is remaining with the BBC to present FA Cup and World Cup coverage along with podcasts and he said that while this move is 'slightly unusual… to be honest it's a scenario that suits me perfectly.' The BBC did not comment on today's Lineker remarks but pointed Deadline to the statement made at the time he announced his exit, which was billed as 'Gary Lineker agrees a contract extension with the BBC.' At that time in November 2024, BBC sport boss Alex Kay-Jelski called Lineker a 'world-class presenter, and we're delighted that he'll lead our coverage of the next World Cup and continue to lead our live coverage of the FA Cup.' Lineker's latest comments, which are now available to watch on BBC iPlayer, may reopen wounds. The ex-soccer pro kickstarted an unprecedented BBC presenter strike when he was stood down from Match of the Day hosting duties two years ago after posting a tweet comparing UK government policy on small boats to that of Nazi Germany. Lineker returned the following week but sparked an entire review into BBC presenters' use of social media and Lineker's social media use has since raised questions. Last year, Lineker described the situation between him and the BBC after the tweet as a 'lover's tiff' and said 'we are fine again now.' At £1.35M ($1.8M) per year, Lineker is currently the BBC's highest-paid presenter. His final Match of the Day will take place next month as the UK soccer season wraps up. Death in Paradise fans issue warning as show favourite gets bad news
Death in Paradise fans have warned that they don't want to see anyone gunning for the Commissioner, joking that they will 'riot' if he goes. Popular Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington, has been a regular in the BBC crime drama since the first series. But there have recently been fears of his job being in danger, amid talk of 'streamlining' the department. And in the latest episode, which aired on Friday, 7 February, the Commissioner confirmed that he was being phased out. JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare) previously told the Commissioner that he had heard some talk at headquarters in Jamaica. "They are looking to change some things here," he said. "Streamlining, and your position, Commissioner, they are going to dissolve it. I'm really, really sorry, sir." In Friday's instalment, DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) and the rest of the team on the fictional island of Saint Marie were investigating as a man filming a TV show was killed while riding a zipline. But Selwyn was distracted when he received a worrying call from his Chief and headed to Jamaica for a meeting. He later told Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine) that he'd been told his position was being phased out. 'The Chief Commissioner officially informed me yesterday," he said. "It seems it comes back to one thing - to save money,' he explained. "What are you going to do?" Catherine asked, saying that the island needed him. However, Selwyn admitted that he didn't know. Viewers were worried that it could spell the end for the Commissioner, posting messages on X joking that they wouldn't stand for it if he got the chop. 'We'll fight for Selwyn,' insisted another viewer. 'They need to leave my Commissioner alone,' warned somebody else on the platform. 'Selwyn, Commissioner, Dad to all, Leader of the army of ducks that will riot if he's fired,' said another. 'They dare phase the Commissioner out I will not be happy,' posted another fan, as somebody else posted a crying emoji as they pointed out: "That island needs Selwyn."
