California man accused of hurling concrete blocks at ICE agents during L.A.-area protests arrested
A Compton man who allegedly hurled concrete blocks at federal immigration officers last month in Paramount was arrested Wednesday after fleeing to Mexico, authorities said. Elpidio Reyna, 39, was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted List following his alleged participation in a standoff against federal agents after they conducted a raid at a nearby Home Depot on June 7. In video footage captured by The Times, individuals can be seen hurling objects at moving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles. At around 3:30 p.m. on June 7, Reyna allegedly threw concrete blocks at the cars, damaging the exterior of the vehicles and injuring a federal officer, according to the FBI. The agency did not elaborate on the extent and nature of the injury the federal officer suffered. Reyna was charged in a federal criminal complaint with allegedly assaulting a federal officer on June 8. Federal agents later confirmed Reyna had fled to Mexico. On June 11, the Department of Homeland Security announced a $50,000 reward to locate Reyna, according to a news release. Reyna's photograph and description were publicized in the United States and Mexico, including in an Instagram post from the official White House account. A poster circulated by the FBI said he was wanted for 'the alleged assault of a federal officer.' Mexican authorities took Reyna into custody in the state of Sinaloa shortly after the post was made public, and Reyna surrendered to the FBI on Wednesday, according to the bureau. He was arrested at the San Ysidro Port of Entry and taken to L.A., where he was expected to make his initial court appearance Wednesday. 'To anyone who thinks they can attack federal officers and hide behind a mask or helmet, Reyna's arrest today proves we can find and charge anyone who violates federal law,' U.S. Atty. Bill Essayli wrote in a post on X. 'Don't touch our officers.' A video accompanying the post shows Reyna being handcuffed, searched and put into a vehicle. 'The FBI will never tolerate violence against those who serve and protect this country,' FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X, adding that Reyna 'will face justice.' The case is being prosecuted by U.S. Attys. Thi Ho and Frances Lewis.

Jorell Hato to Chelsea, Giovanni Reyna to Parma — Transfer news, rumors
Top young players from both the United States and the Netherlands may soon be swapping leagues. United States men's national team midfielder Giovanni Reyna and Dutch defender Jorell Hato are being linked with moves to the Premier League and Serie A this week. MORE — Man United announce Mbeumo | Liverpool unveil Ekitike Reyna is in dire need of change of scenery following a long fall out of favor at Dortmund, while Hato has propelled up the ranks at Ajax and could be set for a new, bigger challenge. Jorrel Hato from Ajax to Chelsea Ajax defender Jorrel Hato has a solid resume for his age and may be adding Premier League player to his CV. Hato, 19, already has six caps for the Netherlands and has piled up 111 senior appearances for Ajax between left back and center back. The flank seems his destiny judging by his Dutch career as well as his two goals and six assists in the Eredivisie last season. Hato's agent is certainly interested in moving this along, via Sky Sports: 'Yes, the club has contacted Ajax. The only thing I can say is that Jorrel is now in talks with Chelsea.' Hato is an elite passer who is strong in the air, and he fits the profile of a young PL prospect. Marc Cucurella remains the top left back at Chelsea but Hato's versatility makes him perfect for cover at multiple positions as the Blues participate in so many competitions. USMNT's Giovanni Reyna from Dortmund to Parma The only thing certain when it comes to Giovanni Reyna is he needs to go somewhere where he'll be made a priority player. Reyna turns 23 in November and further away from the USMNT picture for next summer's World Cup than anyone would imagined a few years ago. He played just 12 minutes at the Club World Cup this summer, and has not featured for several Dortmund managers. Reyna played more than 2,500 minutes as a teenager in Dortmund's 2020-21 season, but injuries cost him much of the next season before the 2021-22 campaign saw him score seven times in a resurgent performance. Edin Terzig, Nuri Sahin, interim boss Mike Tullberg, and Niko Kovac have all kept Reyna down the depth chart in favor of others, and the USMNT player simply has to find a route to regular playing time. Reyna has earned just one cap since going to 90 minutes for the USMNT in the final match of the 2024 Copa America — a 21-minute sub's run against Canada in the Nations League third place game. Parma survived Serie A relegation by two points and new boss Carlos Cuesta, the 29-year-old former Arsenal assistant, is seeking to make a name for himself and some stars in the process. Given Reyna's acumen, this could be as good — and relatively low-profile — as spot as any to jumpstart a once-shimmering career.

LAFC have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old, who was actually born in Sunderland during Claudio's time there. Romano wrote on X: "Parma submitted formal bid to Borussia Dortmund to sign Gio Reyna as key target for Serie A side. "LAFC are not in active talks for Reyna despite reports, Parma are on it with with fee offered around 6m Euros." Followers of the Ibrox club with long memories will remember August 1999, when the Ibrox men took on Parma in the qualifiers for the Champions League. Some of the names in this Parma side trip off the tongue to this day: Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Lilian Thuram, to name just three. But they came unstuck in the first leg of this qualifier at Ibrox. Cannavaro got himself sent off in the opening period before Rod Wallace opened the scoring for Dick Advocaat's side. But Reyna popped up with the clincher with around quarter of an hour left to give the Ibrox men a commanding 2-0 lead to take to Italy. As it happened, the Gers went down by a single goal out in Parma, but the spot in the group stages - and a famous triumph - were theirs. Gio Reyna largely benched at Club World Cup with Borussia Dortmund future uncertain
As the U.S. national team prepares to vie for a Gold Cup championship without him and several other regulars Sunday night against Mexico, polarizing young American and local product Gio Reyna did not get off the bench again in his supposed homecoming on Saturday. The 22-year-old Reyna did not play at all in his Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund's 3-2 knockout loss to La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup at MetLife Stadium. The talented midfielder logged only 12 minutes in Dortmund's five matches on U.S. soil this summer, and his limited usage could lead to a transfer in the coming months to benefit his development — especially with a crucial World Cup on the horizon in 2026 for the USMNT in North America after the hiring of head coach Mauricio Pochettino last September. Gio Reyna hardly played in the Club World Cup. Borussia Dortmund via Getty Images Reyna's attitude issues and lack of playing time were controversial storylines at the previous World Cup in Qatar in 2022 under since-fired coach Gregg Berhalter, who publicly clashed with the young player's parents, including former national team captain Claudio Reyna. With Gio Reyna, Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and others not rostered during this CONCACAF window, the U.S. squad has relied upon and received intriguing production from several emerging players during its Gold Cup run. Diego Luna, Malik Tillman and Patrick Agyemang are among those building cases to play themselves into creative roles a year from now. Including Saturday's match, Reyna only saw action in Club World Cup play against South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai in the group round. Interestingly, Dortmund had used Reyna as part of its marketing campaign for its time in the U.S. There had been some thinking that Reyna might get on the pitch Saturday with Jobe Bellingham — whose brother Jude plays for Real Madrid — suspended for the quarters due to yellow-card accumulation. Gio Reyna has been the source of much controversy with the USMNT. AP But Dortmund manager Niko Kovac did not use Reyna for the fourth time in five games, casting further doubt about his future with the German power. It would make sense for him to seek a transfer if he's not in the plans. Earlier this year, Reyna said in an interview with the FIFA website that he was 'excited' about the possibility of playing near where he grew up. No matter where you are in the world, you can watch the FIFA Club World Cup for free on DAZN. All you need to get started is an email address. No subscription is required, but you will have to make a free account on the streamer to start watching. DAZN also has premium, paid options available to enhance your viewing experience with HDR picture, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, and fewer ads. DAZN Premium plans begin at $19.99/month. 'It's one of those stadiums that I've watched [games in] so much growing up that it's maybe going to be a little bit strange to actually be on the pitch there,' Reyna said of MetLife Stadium. 'I'm very excited for me and, of course, all my family and friends in the area. 'I'm going to have to get a lot of [tickets]. It should be fun and I'm really looking forward to it.' Kovac made three substitutions at the start of the second half, and another later on, but Reyna was not among them. 'Gio is a player of Dortmund [for] four or five years,' Kovac said earlier in the tournament. 'He is a part of my team at the moment. Gio is for sure a player who didn't play so much, but we know exactly his strengths, but we have top players here in the squad. 'The confidence is very big, so hopefully every player can get minutes, but I can't promise you this is depending also on the results, also injuries, but my ambition is to give every player minutes. But this is always in relation to the results.'
