Resident captures startling footage of large, unexpected visitor rummaging through trash: 'It was kind of surreal'
A Pennsylvania homeowner's Ring camera captured terrifying footage of a massive black bear rummaging through the trash at several homes, sparking concern among residents. As WPVI reported, residents of a neighborhood in Chester County said they spotted a bear wandering through the streets and sniffing around people's trash bins in early May. Resident Gina Amann was alerted to the unexpected visitor late one night when their dog started barking. "Then the Ring camera went off, and I saw the bear walking across the front yard," Amann said. "It was kind of surreal, actually." Several other homeowners reported seeing pawprints in their driveways, garbage cans knocked over, and a large figure "bolting down the fence line," as resident Ben Punch explained. The next day, he called the local game commission to report the incident. Officials said: "It's very rare to get any kind of bear activity in northern Chester County." Officials told 6ABC that around 75% of Pennsylvania has bears, but they're not common in the southeastern corner of the state where the bear in the video was spotted. Worldwide, more people are reporting sightings of bears near neighborhoods, farmlands, and even busy urban environments, as they seek easily accessible food sources. Several factors are contributing to this concerning trend, including habitat loss, human population growth, and resource shortages resulting from climate change. As humans encroach on bears' territory, it increases the risk of dangerous human-wildlife conflicts, property damage, and euthanizations if the animals injure people. Newsweek detailed that in 2022, more than 46,000 incidents involving bears were reported to state agencies, with interactions on the rise in 18 U.S. states. One older woman near Lake Tahoe suffered a fatal attack by a black bear last year, marking the first deadly bear encounter in California. Do you worry about air pollution in and around your home? Yes — always Yes — often Yes — sometimes No — never Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Wildlife officials were forced to kill three black bears that had bitten and dragged a Tennessee resident from her porch. Luckily, she walked away unharmed. Black bears have also been spotted on the back porches of Florida homes and roaming around Maryland neighborhoods in search of food. However, by protecting our shared environment through conservation efforts, we can minimize these unwanted encounters with bears and other large animals, ensuring they can thrive in their natural habitats. According to 6ABC, the Pennsylvania Game Commission recommends that people feed pets inside, pack away trash, and remove bird feeders to deter bears. If you see a bear on your property or anywhere close by, keep your distance and make yourself look as large as possible, perhaps by holding a large object or waving your arms to show the animal you're not an easy target. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reintroduced threatened grizzly bears to their native habitats in Montana and Idaho, which will benefit the animals and keep them away from human communities. In Spain, the local government introduced a method to protect both bears and people, telling locals to call a hotline if they spot a bear. Then, rangers will respond and use nonlethal weapons such as rubber-ball shotguns to encourage them to return home. If you'd like to help local bear populations, consider participating in habitat restoration efforts with wildlife organizations or donating to charities that support these causes. Megan Thee Stallion's Lawyer Challenges Claims Of 'New' Evidence, Roc Nation Sabotage In Tory Lanez Case
The 2022 Megan Thee Stallion shooting trial that resulted in Tory Lanez's guilty verdict and incarceration has become fodder, once again, following the Canadian artist being stabbed behind bars last week. This was followed by his reps and one rather vocal political supporter claiming 'new evidence' should exonerate the singer. During a conversation with VIBE, Megan Thee Stallion's legal rep, Mari Henderson, challenged the idea of 'new' evidence changing the established narrative, as Lanez supporter, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's claims regarding DNA and Ring Camera footage were already presented in court. The attorney also addresses Unite The People's claim that a bodyguard confessed to hearing Kelsey Harris admit to shooting the 'Bigger In Texas' rapper during the trial. Henderson also addresses longstanding claims from Lanez's team that he never received a fair trial due to Roc Nation's affiliations within the legal system, as he previously claimed even his ex-attorney, Shawn Holley, worked with Roc Nation to orchestrate his incarceration. VIBE: At Tory's Unite The People press conference, the biggest revelation was that a bodyguard/driver by the name of Bradley James allegedly told them that he witnessed Kelsey Harris admit 'she had the gun, she fired it three times. Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times. In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody.' What do you say to this specific claim? Mari Henderson: This is just the latest in a long line of falsehoods that he has drummed up to try to claim he's innocent. This person that they claim was Kelsey's bodyguard during the trial has yet to come forward themselves. Pure hearsay. This is the same person who, just a few months ago, claimed that he would be exonerated but for the fact that the gun was missing and couldn't be tested, when the gun never went missing and all along has been sitting in an LAPD crime lab for testing. On the DNA evidence point, how could it be that Kelsey Harris is the shooter when female DNA was excluded from the gun? So when you look at the hard facts and the evidence here, Tory's claims fall apart. Speaking of DNA, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna claims there is 'new' DNA evidence that, 'they actually found four people's DNA on that firearm, none of which was Tory's. Not to mention there was zero fingerprints on the actual magazine.' She also cited, 'Ring footage that's been obtained that actually disproves the whole 'dance Megan' scenario described in court testimony.' MH: First of all, let's consider the source. A republican congresswoman from Florida is suddenly jumping into the mix about a case that happened in Los Angeles and is somehow calling on the California governor to release Tory because of purported new evidence, when all I've seen from this representative is her rehashing things that were already revealed at trial, already seen at trial, and are in no way, shape or form new evidence. It was already known at trial that the gun was not fingerprinted. It was already known at trial that Tory cannot be included or excluded on the DNA of the gun. He had his own DNA experts testify at trial. This is the same woman who is now trying to perpetuate the narrative of 'exclusive footage' that exonerates him that is simply Ring camera footage that was played for the jury, indeed in opening statements by the prosecutor. We know that Tory has a long history of using paid mouthpieces to perpetuate false narratives as he continues to traumatize and re-victimize Meg now going on five years after shooting her. We know that Tory previously wrote an Instagram comment denying Harris was the shooter, with his team now claiming she is. Meg admitted that she initially lied about stepping on glass to protect Tory. Is it possible Tory also lied to protect Kelsey before everyone decided to tell 'the truth?' MH: It is not even a possibility if you look at the overwhelming evidence that was presented at trial. Meg explained exactly why she initially claimed that she stepped on broken glass, trying to protect Tory. Frankly, he was victimizing her so much and she was forced to come out and tell the truth because of his actions. This is someone who's continued to terrorize her for years, violate protective orders, violate gag orders, and even two and a half years after being convicted is claiming for the first time that he was trying to protect Kelsey Harris, but somehow in a two-week-long trial, that idea never came out and is now coming out only now for the first time. Something that has been brought up a quite a bit is the idea that Roc Nation and it's legal reps have connections that are able to sabotage cases. Lanez argues that he never had a fair trial, at one point accusing his own counsel of being in cahoots with Roc Nation. Can you address accusations that the case itself was compromised? MH: There's absolutely no truth to that. There are so many protections and checks and balances at every step of the justice system. There was a full, two-week trial in this case, the judge presided over it, the judge presided over two years of pre-trial hearings and the multiple times he violated his conditions of pre-trial release. After he was convicted, now it's gone on to appeals, he's filed for two Habeas corpus', he's filed an appellate brief. This case, at no point, was ever tried unfairly. Tory Lanez was convicted due to the overwhelming amount of evidence against him. To claim that this is was some injustice because of the D.A.'s office? Roc Nation was not a part of this. It was the the District Attorney's office prosecuting this case. These claims are just conspiracies that he's trying to use to drum up attention. And they're, frankly, just that, total and complete from GloRilla Clarifies Tory Lanez Repost After Social Media Assumes Rift With Megan Thee Stallion SZA Defends Megan Thee Stallion Amid "Bullying" From Tory Lanez Supporters Tory Lanez Receives Support From Congresswoman Calling For Him To Be Released From Prison

Middlesbrough trainer's cars targeted in arson attack
A personal trainer raced naked from his house when an arsonist set fire to three cars on his Hind, 41, stayed up to watch television on Tuesday night after his wife and three children went to bed.A doorbell camera on their Middlesbrough property alerted the gym coach to somebody on his drive around midnight and, after seeing a orange flash, he looked out to see three cars on fire before screaming to his family to "get out".Mr Hind, who described running out of the house naked to confront the intruder, said he believed the Ring camera saved his loved ones' lives. "I didn't know whether to chase him or to make sure my family were out of the house," he said."I didn't know what was on fire so I headed back in to make sure they were all right."I got them into a neighbour's house and then called the police. Mr Hind, who was appointed MBE in 2022 for charitable work during the Covid pandemic, believes that without the doorbell camera he would not have realised what was happening "until it was too late".He said: "This could have been a story about five people dying in a house fire."If not for the Ring doorbell we wouldn't be here."A minute or two longer and the firemen said it could have set the house on fire."The fire service confirmed they attended the blaze at 12:05 Police have appealed for witnesses as they hunt the attacker. Ring Outdoor Camera Plus review: Is the 2K video worth upgrading for?
As with most others, the latest Ring security camera is quick and easy to install. This is especially true if you already have a Ring security system, as all you have to do is open the Ring app and point your smartphone at a QR code on the new camera. It'll then be added to your system, without you even needing to input your wifi network password. The physical installation is just as straight-forward. Since the camera comes with a set of screws and wall plugs, you'll just need a screwdriver or a drill to mount it to a wall, fence or other flat surface. The mount can be fitted to the bottom or back of the camera, and is secured into place with included screws. There's also a screw to secure the cover of the battery compartment, and the adjustable hinges of the mount have screws to make everything nice and secure, so it won't move on a windy day. None of these screws will entirely prevent the camera from being stolen, but a potential thief would have to spend some time unscrewing them all – and while being in clear shot of the camera itself – so that shouldn't be a concern. Before installing, make sure the camera has a strong enough wifi signal (the Ring app helpfully gives a score for this), and that it can be easily accessed for battery charges. How long the battery lasts per charge will depend on how you configure the camera, and can range from just a few weeks to several months. During my testing I found it was on schedule to last between four and six weeks per charge. The battery has to be removed to charge, and despite this being Ring's latest camera its battery still uses an old microUSB cable. The more common USB-C standard (as the camera uses for its optional mains cable and solar panel) would be preferable. Since the battery takes a few hours to charge, I'd recommend buying a second battery. That way the camera is only offline for a few moments while you swap one for the other. Camera The stand-out features of this Ring product are its video resolution and field-of-view. In both cases, the Outdoor Camera Plus reviewed here performs better than the standard Ring Outdoor Camera Battery and even the more expensive (but older) Ring Outdoor Camera Pro. This is the first Ring security camera to record in 2K. This means a video resolution of 2560 x 1440, compared to the 1920 x 1080 of cameras that record in Full HD. Ultimately though, the extra pixels make little difference to video quality. Recordings are a little sharper, especially if you zoom in, but it's not a night-and-day improvement. I'd like to have seen Ring go straight for 4K (3840 x 2160), but I appreciate how a higher resolution means more power consumption and a shorter battery life. That isn't to say the footage is bad. Recordings look great (so long as the camera has a good wifi connection to your router), but the improvement over older Ring cameras is small. At 160 degrees diagonally, the lens is much wider than that of the base Ring Outdoor Security Camera (130 degrees) and slightly wider than the more expensive Ring Outdoor Camera Pro (155 degrees). This is good news all round, and means the new camera captures a wider view of your garden, drive or wherever you install it. As ever with Ring cameras, colours are punchy, exposure levels are handled well and night vision delivers quality results. Just make sure the view isn't partially obstructed (by a nearby window ledge or a fence post), as this appears bright white under infrared light, lowering the quality of footage recorded with night vision. Ring's colour night vision avoids this, but that works best when there's at least some ambient light, such as a street lamp, and not total darkness. Features and connectivity This camera works much like any other from Ring. It alerts you via the Ring app when motion is detected, and you can view footage live or stream saved recordings later. The camera can be configured to only alert you and record when motion is detected in a certain area. That way, it'll ignore passing cars and pedestrians but record when someone walks onto your land. Similarly, there's the option to have the camera ignore vehicle motion, and only record when a person is detected. You can also set a siren to sound when motion is detected, and you can create privacy zones, where portions of the camera's view are blocked. This can help protect your neighbours' privacy, by obscuring their property with black boxes on your recordings. Like most other security cameras, a speaker and microphone enable you to talk to visitors – or ward off intruders and trespassers – from your phone. Ring takes this a step further by having a range of pre-recorded messages, ready for the camera to play aloud. These include greetings, requests for couriers to leave their parcel by the door, and messages saying you'll be at the door in a moment. These might seem like gimmicks – and, admittedly, they make more sense when used with a video doorbell – but if you struggle to get outside quickly they can be a handy way of informing your visitor, or warn that they're being recorded. As for connectivity, the camera connects wirelessly to your wifi router and can use either 2.4GHz or 5GHz networks. Storage and subscription This being a Ring camera, a subscription is a practical necessity. Since there's no internal storage, all recordings are uploaded to Ring's cloud storage service, and that's only accessible by paying for a Ring Home subscription. Without that, you'll be notified when the camera detects movement, and you can view a live video stream there and then, but recordings of past events are inaccessible. Prices start at £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year for the basic tier. This lets you access footage for 180 days after it's recorded, and unlocks extra intelligence like people and package detection. The latter can be used to receive an alert when the camera spots a package left on your doorstep. Above this is the standard tier. This costs £7.99 a month or £79.99 a year and can be used with multiple Ring cameras and doorbells – so you'll need this if you intend to install more than just one device. Lastly there's premium, which costs £15.99 a month or £159.99 a year and unlocks 24/7 recording. With this, you can view everything your cameras and doorbell have ever seen, not just events that triggered their motion detection. In short, basic is fine if you just want one Ring camera (or doorbell). Add another device and you'll need standard, and only those who really need continuous recording should stump up for premium.
