Ashok Gehlot defends Gandhis, criticises BJP over ED and issues in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has strongly defended Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi against the allegations being raised by the BJP, calling them politically motivated and baseless. Gehlot said the BJP is deliberately targeting Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, including in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to the National Herald newspaper. He emphasised that the National Herald was started nearly 90 years ago and was part of Congress's historical legacy. 'There are many newspapers that operate and many that don't. Congress tried to revive the National Herald. The BJP's problem is that if this newspaper becomes active again, they can't tolerate that it's associated with Congress and religious harmony,' Gehlot said. He further claimed that false cases have been filed regarding a newspaper that hasn't even been published recently. 'Where there has been no transaction of even Rs 1, no exchange of money, then what is the justification for ED action?' he asked. Gehlot added that if the opposition fails to question such misuse of power, the public will start questioning the opposition's silence. 'Whenever questions are raised, BJP leaders get irritated. But it is our responsibility to question such undemocratic actions,' he added. Turning to state-level issues, Gehlot criticised the 'Rising Rajasthan' investment summit, stating that the initiative is more about claims than results. 'There is no visible investment on the ground. Rajasthan is facing serious issues related to drinking water and electricity. There are power cuts lasting four to five hours in several areas,' he said. He urged the Chief Minister to address these grassroots problems with urgency and ensure that the public doesn't suffer. 'The heatwave is making things worse. The administration must act sensitively and ensure basic amenities are provided without disruption,' he said. Commenting on the ongoing Nautapa (nine hottest days of the year) period, Gehlot urged people to avoid stepping out in extreme heat and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health.

Balotra urban improvement trust jurisdiction notification issued for 121 areas

Jaipur: The state govt Friday officially announced formation of the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) for Balotra, covering Balotra city, Jasol town, and 119 villages spread across Pachpadra, Kalyanpur, and Patodi tehsils in Barmer district. The establishment of the UIT was proposed in the 2025-26 state budget, following Balotra's elevation as a new district carved out of Barmer. Balotra, a prominent industrial town known for housing one of the largest textile clusters in the country, witnessed rapid growth in recent years. With the formation of UIT, the state aims to bring planned urban development, regulate unstructured expansion, and enhance infrastructure in the region. "This decision will accelerate the district's growth by enabling the development of new townships and industrial corridors. During the Rising Rajasthan summit Balotra attracted investments worth several crores, indicating strong investor confidence," a senior govt official told TOI. According to the official notification, the UIT's jurisdiction will include revenue villages, urban settlements, hamlets (dhanis), and emerging townships. Key areas falling under its ambit include Balotra city and adjoining villages such as Shanidham Jerla, Majiwala, Majisa Nagar, and Jaswant Singh Nagar, as well as Jasol town, and revenue villages of Jasol and Temawas. The notification also lists significant religious and historical landmarks, including Shri Kheteshwar Virahmdham Tirth and several settlements named after spiritual leaders and local deities—reflecting the cultural and spiritual diversity of the region. The formation of the UIT is expected to streamline urban governance, enhance public service delivery, and boost infrastructure development in the newly established district, aligning with Rajasthan's broader vision of decentralised and balanced urban growth.

Jaipur: After selling 98 industrial plots under the new direct allotment scheme on April 4 for the MoU holders of the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit , RIICO 's routine e-auctions held Thursday and Friday fetched over Rs 300 crore with the sale of 182 plots. To facilitate the availability of land, RIICO introduced a Direct Land Allotment Policy-2025, which is applicable in 98 industrial areas.
