2 IITB alumni pledge 100cr for hostel redevpt on campus

Mumbai: In its largest-ever donation received for the betterment of "students' living experiences" on the campus, two of IIT Bombay's alumni have committed to contribute Rs 100 crore for the purpose. The donation will be used for the enhancement of campus infrastructure, mainly the students' residential facilities. The contribution came from IITB alumni Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, co-founders of BrowserStack, a cloud-based web and mobile testing platform, who were from the computer science and engineering batch of 2006. It will be directed towards two major initiatives—the reconstruction of Hostel 6, where both of them stayed as students, and Project Evergreen, a comprehensive initiative to modernise hostels 7, 8 and 21. A portion of the contribution will be given to the institute as part of BrowserStack 's corporate social responsibility initiative. BrowserStack co-founders pledge Rs 100 crore to IIT Bombay, aim to transform hostel facilities at their alma mater

In another generous gesture at alumni giving back to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, co-founders of BrowserStack, have committed to contributing Rs 100 crore to their alma mater to enhance campus infrastructure, particularly pertaining to student residential facilities. The co-founder duo of BrowserStack, a cloud-based web and mobile testing platform, graduated from IIT Bombay in 2006 with BTech degrees in computer science engineering. Their donation will be directed towards two major initiatives – the reconstruction of Hostel 6, where they both resided at IIT Bombay, and Project Evergreen, a comprehensive initiative to modernise Hostels 7, 8 and 21. As per information shared by the institute, their donation is among the largest contributions ever received for student living experiences. Ritesh Arora, CEO of BrowserStack, said, 'IIT Bombay shaped our vision and gave us the foundation to build BrowserStack into a global tech leader. Through this contribution, we are not just rebuilding hostels, we are investing in environments where the next generation of tech leaders can collaborate, ideate, and push boundaries. Quality infrastructure plays a crucial role in nurturing well-rounded engineers who can solve tomorrow's complex challenges.' In January 2025, an alumnus couple from IIT Bombay, Jitendra Mohan (electrical engineering, 1994) and Swapna Samant (civil engineering, 1995), pledged $11 million to their alma mater to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the legacy of excellence in education and innovation. In August 2023, IIT Bombay received a donation of $18.6 million (approximately Rs 153 crore) from an alumnus who wishes to remain anonymous. In June 2023, IIT Bombay received a donation of Rs 315 crore ($38.5 million) from Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys Ltd and founding chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), who is also an alumnus of the institute. According to IIT Bombay, the reconstruction project for Hostel 6 aims to create a modern and comfortable living space equipped with contemporary amenities that promote student well-being and support academic excellence. This initiative is part of a larger vision at IIT Bombay to enhance the student living and learning experience by upgrading its hostel facilities to accommodate 14,000 students. Nakul Aggarwal, CTO and co-founder of BrowserStack, said, 'The engineering talent coming out of IIT Bombay has been transforming the global tech landscape for decades. My journey from Hostel 6 to building a global tech company showed me how powerful the right environment is for nurturing innovation. This contribution is personal for us—we are simply giving back to the institution that showed us what is possible when talent meets opportunity.' Expressing gratitude for the contribution, Prof Shireesh Kedare, IIT Bombay said, 'This generous gesture exemplifies the spirit of giving back that our alumni community upholds. Their significant support will greatly enhance the living and learning environment for our students. We are immensely proud of their achievements and grateful for their unwavering commitment to IIT Bombay.'
