2025 New NFL uniforms: Bills Bring Back Red Helmets in Regular Season Finale

There are going to be plenty of new looks that you'll have to get accustomed to when the NFL is back in September. In fact, nearly half of the league could be making some sort of change to their uniforms for the 2025 season. Based on previous announcements, there could be up to 15 teams that make a jersey change, add a new alternate look or redesign their helmets. Teams such as the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have announced that they'll unveil a new alternate uniform this summer. But the big reason why many teams are adding new looks for the upcoming season is due to the NFL's "Rivalries" program. In April, the league announced that it was unveiling "Rivalry" edition uniforms for each team over the next four years as part of its partnership with Nike. The practice will be similar to what Nike does with MLB (City Connects) and NBA (City Edition) uniforms. AFC East (Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets) and NFC West (Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks) teams will be the first group of teams to receive their "Rivalry" uniforms and are expected to debut them for the 2025 season. As we await more teams to unveil their new looks for the 2025 season, let's take a look at which teams have already unveiled changes to their uniform closet. The red helmets are back. The Bills announced on Tuesday that they will wear their famous red helmets in Week 18, the final game at Highmark Stadium against their division rival, the New York Jets. The Bills rocked red helmets from 1987-2010, and now they're paying homage to that era and allowing fans to relive some of the best moments in franchise history. The Bills switched to white helmets with their rebranding in 2011. MVP QB Josh Allen toyed with bringing back the red helmet when he would wear one during scrimmage practices in front of fans in 2022. The Bills will also be bringing back throwback "Standing Buffalo" uniforms in Week 5 and 11. New helmets aren't the only additions being made to the Saints' uniform closet for the 2025 season. New Orleans will have new alternate uniforms, too. The Saints unveiled their gold alternate jerseys on Tuesday, July 22. The jerseys, which the team is calling their "Gameday Golds," are pretty simple-looking. They have a gold base with the black name and number plates that also have white outlining. The collars of the jerseys are also black. For the vast majority of their existence, the Saints have only worn black and white-based jerseys. In fact, there's only been one instance where they've worn a jersey that didn't have black or white as the primary color. They wore gold jerseys, along with gold helmets and black pants, for a game in 2002. In Tuesday's unveiling of their gold jerseys, Saints players wore black pants. So, it doesn't appear that gold pants are making their way to New Orleans quite yet. New Orleans didn't announce when it will wear the new gold jerseys in 2025. The Saints unveiled new helmets earlier in July. The helmets have the Saints' traditional logo placed in the center with its typical gold color. There's also a large gold stripe that goes through the center of the helmet, while the facemasks are also gold. The Saints are expected to only wear their new helmets in games when they wear their white color rush uniforms, according to New The Steelers are throwing it back in 2025, and as far as they can. For their classic alternate this season, they'll be wearing 1933 throwbacks, from when the team was known as the Pittsburgh Pirates – yes, just like MLB's own team, which had been in existence in the city since 1882. They'd remain the Pirates through the 1939 season, and in 1940, swapped monikers to honor something else that Pittsburgh was known for: the Steel City's football team would be known from that point forward as the Steelers. These jerseys still feature the black and gold, but there is far more of the latter and less of the former in these uniforms than we see today. They're yellow jerseys with some black accents and designs on them, tan pants, and with matching yellow socks. These uniforms were also the Steelers very first throwback, in 1994, though these look a bit different then, with the numbers once again in the center of the jersey as they were in 1933, rather than offset on the shoulder. The Chargers unveiled new alternative jerseys for the 2025 season on Tuesday morning, featuring the "Charger Power" and "Super Chargers" looks. The "Charger Power" is a yellow-on-yellow look with white helmets, which will be worn when the Chargers host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, with the "Super Chargers" being the team's historic navy-blue look, which will be worn when they host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13. "I feel like the Chargers have the best uniforms," Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. said. "There's just something about the powder blue, the white, the gold. And after these new alternates drop, it won't be close." The Buccaneers announced that they're bringing back their 1976 uniform for their 2025 home opener, which is Sept. 21 against the New York Jets. The "Creamsicle" white jersey is a commemoration of the team's 1976 debut season in the sport. "The '76 Jersey represents a piece of Buccaneers history and serves as a tribute to the generations of fans and players who shaped this franchise," Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford said in a statement. "As we launch into our 50th season, we're proud to reintroduce The '76 Jersey and the tradition it embodies. It is a reminder that every Buccaneers fan, from the originals to the newest generation, is part of an evolving story that started in 1976 and continues being written today." The white jersey will be joined by white helmets and pants and striped socks, with a 50th season patch on the jersey. "Hey! Hey! Tampa Bay!," the franchise's old rallying cry, is stitched on the collar. After a surprise NFC Championship Game appearance in 2024, the Commanders are tapping into the franchise's most successful period as the inspiration for their new alternate uniforms. They unveiled their "Super Bowl Era" alternate uniforms on Wednesday, which are modeled after the uniforms the team wore in their Super Bowl wins in 1982, 1987 and 1991. The jerseys have a white base with burgundy numbers that have gold outlines. There are also gold stripes on the sleeves, while the nameplates are burgundy with gold outlines. The pants and socks will be burgundy, with each having gold outlining, too. As for the helmets, they'll resemble the helmets the franchise wore during that era, just with their new logo instead of their old one. The burgundy-colored helmet will have white and gold stripes down the center to go with a gold facemask. The Commanders are scheduled to wear their "Super Bowl Era" uniforms on three occasions in 2025. They'll wear them for the first time when they host the Seahawks in Week 9. They'll wear them again when they host the Denver Broncos in Week 13 and will wear them for the third time when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Day in Week 17. College Football Insider Names Most ‘Overrated' Rivalry

College Football Insider Names Most 'Overrated' Rivalry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When calling to mind neutral-site college football rivalries, you likely don't go too far down the line before thinking of the feud between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, which has been played in Jacksonville each year since 1996. Advertisement The Athletic's Scott Dochterman tabbed the rivalry series formerly known as the 'World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party' as being the 12th-best in the nation. On Texas Football's CJ Vogel doesn't agree with that placement. 'The Top 100 rivalry article that came out a few days (ago) has me ready to fire some takes,' Vogel wrote last week on X. 'Florida/Georgia is the most overrated rivalry game in CFB.' Florida Gators head coach Billy NapierDenny Medley-USA TODAY Sports Billy Napier's program first crossed paths with Kirby Smart's in 1915. The Bulldogs lead the series 56-44-2. 'Each team has important in-state rivalries, but this ranks No. 1 for both programs and their fans,' Dochterman wrote. 'They've yet to have a top-five matchup, but the outcomes often lead directly to an SEC championship participant.' Advertisement This season's matchup between the two SEC powers will be played in Jacksonville, while they'll meet in Atlanta in 2026 and Tampa in 2027 as EverBank Stadium undergoes a renovation. The Gators have lost four straight to Smart's outfit, including a 34-20 decision a season ago. Vogel also said Nebraska-Oklahoma (No. 6) is 'meaningless to current day CFB' and the USC's series with Notre Dame (No. 5) 'feels so emotionless for a top-5 rivalry.' Dochterman's top-3 included Ohio State-Michigan (No. 1), Auburn-Alabama (No. 2) and Oklahoma-Texas (No. 3).
