Colorado brewers take home 21 medals in World Beer Cup
Colorado brewers took home 21 medals Thursday in the prestigious World Beer Cup. Why it matters: The competition is the foremost beer and cider contest, pitting Colorado breweries against the best around the globe. State of play: Denver's River North Brewery won three medals, one each for their chocolate, pumpkin and coffee beers. Loveland's Verboten Brewing medaled for the fourth year in a row, scoring a third consecutive or Grow Old With You, a barleywine. Six first-time winners landed medals: New Terrain Brewing, Wibby Brewing, Stodgy Brewing, Mythmaker Brewing, Best Day Brewing, and Mash Lab Brewing. The big picture: The contest drew 8,375 entries from 1,761 breweries and cideries across 49 nations. The awards were announced in Indianapolis at the annual Craft Brewers Conference, hosted by the Boulder-based Brewers Association. Denver weekend happenings: Feb. 19-21
Colorado will start to thaw this weekend, so we've put together a roster of five events to help you emerge from hibernation. 🎥 The Colorado Environmental Film Festival gets underway Friday through Sunday at the Green Center on the Colorado School of Mines campus with over 50 new films to see in-person or online. 🍺 Grab a dark beer. River North Brewery in Denver is hosting a weekend-long 13th Anniversary Party with new releases, food trucks and a beer pairing dinner. If you want more, head to Loveland for the Verboten Stout Festival, where you can try unlimited pours from 2-5pm. 🎟 Get in free to the Denver Art Museum on Saturday. Doors open at 10am. 🎉 Embrace the season at the Arvada Winterfest from 11am to 4pm Saturday. Expect live ice sculpting, a beer garden and food trucks as well as craft vendors and music. 🏃 If you see half-naked people running through the streets of Denver on Saturday, that's Cupid's Undie Run, an event that raises awareness of the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis.
