Al Ahly Enters the Race to Sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Rana Atef On Tuesday, reports indicated that Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leave the Saudi side Al Nassr after the Riyadh-based club failed to book their seats to the AFC Champions League. Several teams are racing to sign the iconic player, especially those which will participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup this summer. It was reported that Al Ahly are among the possible directions for the Portuguese star. The possibility of facing Lionel Messi again could also attract major sponsors and companies to support the deal if Al Ahly decides to pursue negotiations seriously. Previously, a source from within Al Ahly denied the possibility of signing Ronaldo due to his high salary demands. However, talks could resume if the club receives the green light financially. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Where Next for Cristiano Ronaldo? Saudi Giants Vie for Legend's Signature

Cristiano Ronaldo is considering a move away from Al Nassr, with Saudi rivals Al Hilal pushing to sign the Portuguese star ahead of this summer's FIFA Club World Cup. Ronaldo, who scored 41 goals in all competitions this season, appeared to signal the end of his spell at Al Nassr with a cryptic social media message on Monday night, writing: 'This chapter is closed. The story? It's still being written.' The 40-year-old's contract is set to expire on 30 June, and while Al Nassr remain keen to renew terms, negotiations have reportedly stalled following the club's failure to secure any major silverware this season. Al Nassr finished third in the Saudi Pro League, 13 points behind champions Al Hilal. Al Hilal are looking to make a marquee signing to fill the void left by Neymar's long-term absence and have identified Ronaldo as a priority target. The Riyadh-based club are prepared to offer a similar salary to his current deal and the opportunity to feature in the Club World Cup, where they will face his former club Real Madrid in the first match on June 18 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr in January 2023 following his exit from Manchester United, has scored 93 goals in 105 appearances for the club, trailblazing the influx of football superstars to the Saudi Pro League, including Neymar, Benzema, and Bounou, among others. Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre, a close associate of Ronaldo, told El Chiringuito that 'nothing is signed' and that the striker is 'keeping all options open.' The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks, as he weighs up what could be the final chapter of his illustrious career.

Bruno Fernandes given new strict deadline to decide on £200m Man Utd exit

Manchester United's best player has keen interest from Saudi club Al Hilal but he must make a decision this week amid chance to almost quadruple his wages Bruno Fernandes has been given 72 hours to decide whether to accept a bumper offer from Al Hilal. The Saudi Pro League are determined to add a marquee name before next month's Club World Cup begins and they have made Manchester United's best player their top target. But, according to the Daily Mail, Portugal star Fernandes must decide soon with the Old Trafford club willing to consider offers for their entire squad following a dismal campaign that saw them lose the Europa League final and finish in the bottom quarter of the Premier League. ‌ Fernandes is reluctant to leave United but said after last Wednesday's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao that he would depart if required. United are desperate to raise money from sales to fund a revamp of Ruben Amorim's squad. ‌ Riyadh-based Al Hilal are willing to pay Fernandes £700,000 tax-free per week as part of a three-year deal that, all in, will be worth about £200m including performance related add-ons. And they will offer United a fee of about £100m if the attacking midfielder, who currently earns about £280,000 per week before tax, says yes to the proposal. Fernandes, who joined United in January 2020, is with United on their divisive post-season tour of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia. And speaking early on Wednesday morning head coach Amorim said: 'He's really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team. "The last game the team was without pressure, they performed quite well, everybody wants the ball, the team has different moments and in different moments Bruno [Fernandes] takes responsibility.' Asked about his future last week, Fernandes said: 'If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it is what it is. And football sometimes is like this. 'I have always been honest. I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go. I'm eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to the great days. 'In the day that the club thinks that I'm too much or it's time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I've always said it and I keep my word in the same way.'

ASEAN, GCC launch free trade talks

Crown Prince, representing Amir, heads Kuwait delegation at key summits KUALA LUMPUR: The regional bloc of Southeast Asian nations ASEAN and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states agreed on Monday, in a joint statement, to start negotiations over a free trade agreement. The agreement was sealed on the sidelines of the ASEAN/GCC summit in the Malaysian capital, in which HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is represented by HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The joint statement should serve as a launchpad towards talks on a free trade agreement between the two regional blocs, covering a wide array of sectors and economic aspects that would further reinforce trade ties between Kuala Lumpur and Gulf Arab states, it underlined. These talks come as per the directives of the leaders of GCC member states, which urge Gulf Arab countries to bolster their ties with 'international partners', said the Riyadh-based bloc's chief Jasem Al-Budaiwi, hailing the agreement as a major step forward in a bid to bring that goal to fruition. Leaders from the two regional blocs are assembling for talks in the Malaysian capital to discuss current developments and push forward bilateral relations. Al-Budaiwi affirmed Monday that the Gulf states are a globally trusted partner and a key hub for international cooperation, thanks to their credibility and balanced political approach. In a statement to KUNA ahead of the second GCC-ASEAN Summit and the first GCC-ASEAN-China Summit, Al-Budaiwi highlighted the high-level GCC participation in Kuala Lumpur as a reflection of the Gulf's serious commitment to strengthening partnerships with ASEAN and China. He emphasized that these summits come at a pivotal moment amid significant global transformations. Al-Budaiwi noted the deep and diverse economic ties between the Gulf and ASEAN, marked by substantial investments, and described the summit as a strategic platform for discussing trade, food security and regional economic integration with China. He stressed the GCC's goal of developing modern cooperation frameworks that respond to global geopolitical and economic shifts, focusing on innovation, technology, digitalization and enhancing regional security. Al-Budaiwi pointed out that the GCC-ASEAN-China grouping represents about 30 to 40 percent of the global economy, underscoring its economic and political significance, and reiterated the Gulf's policy of positive neutrality and its commitment to regional and international stability. On political issues, Al-Budaiwi praised ASEAN's supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, highlighting recent calls by ASEAN foreign ministers to halt the Zionist occupation's attacks on Gaza. He expressed the GCC's appreciation and support for this position and welcomed the upcoming Saudi-French conference in New York in June, expressing hope for meaningful international pressure on the Zionist occupation to end military operations, allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, and pave the way for peace talks. The Malaysian foreign ministry announced that the ASEAN-GCC Summit is expected to produce two key documents: A joint statement and a declaration, while the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit will issue a joint statement. These documents are aimed at delivering balanced, mutually beneficial outcomes that promote regional stability and prosperity. – KUNA
