Pakistan: Man faces prison after walking lion in Punjab
Pakistani authorities confiscated two African lions after a man caused panic as he walked one of them through the streets over the weekend for a TikTok video. The man, who was also wielding an automatic rifle, has since been arrested, after residents in the Gujranwala district of Punjab province reacted with fear to the incident. "We have arrested the man involved in the TikTok stunt and confiscated two African lions from his possession," Mohammad Rizwan, spokesperson for Punjab Wildlife Department, told dpa news agency on Tuesday. Rizwan said that the man could face up to seven years in prison for illegal possession of lions and putting lives of the public in danger. Showing off big cats is a criminal act in Punjab Under the Punjab Wildlife Act of 1974, as amended in 2025, keeping or displaying big cats in urban areas is a criminal offense. Punjab wildlife authorities have banned the keeping of big cats in populated zones and also prohibited the sharing of dangerous videos involving big cats on social media. "No one is be allowed to keep lions at homes and in densely populated residential neighbourhoods," Rizwan said. There are more than 100 private breeding houses in Punjab, and scores of people also keep big cats including tigers and cheetahs in their homes. Last month, the government in Punjab launched an app asking people to register big cats in an attempt to regulate ownership.

Shaheen Afridi doesn't spare Mohammad Rizwan, takes brutal dig at Pakistan captain post PSL win: 'Koi kisi ka boss nahi'
Lahore Qalandars, on Sunday, became the second-most prolific team in the history of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), after Islamabad United, as they beat Quetta Gladiators by six wickets in front of a packed house of 34,000 fans at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to lift their third PSL title. A 59-run match-winning stand between Kusal Perera and Sikandar Raza, off just 19 balls, helped Lahore chase down 202 with one ball to spare. After the win, Shaheen Afridi, who became the only-ever captain to lead a single PSL franchise to three title wins, did not spare Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan as he took a brutal dig at him in the post-match press conference. Shaheen, who took three wickets in the final and finished as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 19 scalps, was asked how he regained his form in white-ball cricket, and he said: "Firstly, I'm really thankful to God that we won the third PSL trophy. Even Ramiz Raja asked me at the toss about my form, and I told him the same thing: I am still the same Shaheen; I have neither changed nor will I." Even Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana, who also attended the press conference in Lahore, took a cheeky dig at Rizwan when asked the secret behind the team's success and how every player managed to perform and contribute to the title win. "Shaheen is not just a Lahore Qalandars player; he is part of our family. He does give credit to me and Atif, but the fact is that we have been running this team for 10 years, and Shaheen became the captain four years back, and we have won the PSL three times since. The most important aspect of player management is trust. When you create an environment where you can trust each other, you get results like this. But if you start judging people, that's unfortunate. Here at Lahore Qalandars, we don't judge players, we trust and back them. And when you do that, with all your heart, not for the sake of doing it, the results will go your way," he said. After being appointed the captain in 2022, Shaheen led Lahore to back-to-back PSL title wins, before incurring a horrid 2024 season, where they finished bottom of the table. They had managed just one win in nine games as Shaheen came under criticism, and later was even removed as the Pakistan captain for the T20 World Cup last year. However, he and Lahore bounced back in style this year, where they finished fourth in the league stage, battled through the Eliminator stage and reached the final. "One player does not make the entire team," the captain said. "Tomorrow, if there is no Shaheen, it will not affect the team, and the credit goes to the management for this. Koi kisi ka boss nehi hai (No one is the boss here). Every player is respected and heard. And when there is an environment like this, any player and come and perform." The incident had happened during the Champions Trophy earlier this year, in the match against New Zealand, where Rizwan was left fuming at Shaheen after a delivery from the fast bowler beat took the inside edge of the batter and went for a boundary. The Pakistan captain was seen saying something animatedly to Shaheen, and the latter retaliated by hurling a mouthful. Even former New Zealand quick Simon Doull, on air, disagreed with Rizwan's body language, as he said: "I'm sorry, but you cannot be having a go at the bowler there. It was a genuinely good delivery."

Remove all adverse remarks in transfer order of rape accused's son: Uttarakhand HC
The Uttarakhand high court on Thursday directed the state's Public Works Department (PWD) to remove the adverse remarks made in the transfer order of Rizwan Khan, who is additional assistant engineer in PWD Uttarakhand, and son of a rape accused. The bench of Justice Manoj Tiwari and Justice Ashish Naithani directed the PWD while hearing the petition filed by Rizwan. Kartikeya Hari Gupta, counsel of the petitioner, said Rizwan had challenged the stigmatic transfer order dated May 5 by which he was transferred from PWD Construction Division Khatima to temporary division PWD Ghansali on administrative grounds. We pleaded before the court that the transfer order issued on May 5 is in violation of Uttarakhand Transfer Act 2017. We pleaded before the Court that as a government servant, he has no problem with the transfer, but the transfer on administrative grounds, which mentions 'laxity of work' and 'non-compliance of orders of superiors' has been wrongly mentioned in the transfer order'. 'The court disposed of the petition and ordered PWD to expunge all the adverse remarks made against the petitioner in the transfer order', Gupta said. On April 30, a first information report (FIR) was registered, and the building contractor Mohammad Usman was arrested for allegedly raping the 12-year-old girl in his car on April 12. The FIR was registered under section 65 (1) (Punishment for rape in certain cases of rape on a woman under sixteen years), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Mallital police station. In the complaint, the minor girl's mother alleged that the accused, who lives in their neighbourhood, raped the girl in his car by luring her with money on April 12. The minor girl lives with relatives in Nainital and her mother lives in Sambhal of Uttar Pradesh.

HC removes adverse remarks from Nainital rape accused's son's PWD transfer order
Dehradun: Uttarakhand high court on Thursday removed adverse remarks from the transfer order of a public works department assistant engineer whose father has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in Nainital last month. Rizwan Khan , who was moved from Khatima to Ghansali in April, challenged the transfer, saying it appeared "retaliatory and violated" transfer norms, especially as the order was widely circulated on social media before he received it officially. Rizwan is the son of Mohammad Usman , a 73-year-old contractor arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Nainital on April 12, 2025. The incident came to light on April 30 when the girl informed her family. Usman's arrest led to widespread outrage and communal tensions in the area. Prominent Muslim leaders also publicly expelled Usman from the community. Rizwan was posted in the Loniwi construction division in Khatima and was transferred to the temporary division in Ghansali, Tehri Garhwal. While the order was officially labelled administrative, Khan filed a petition under the Uttarakhand Transfer Act, 2017, claiming it was "punitive and in violation of section 18(4)". Appearing before the division bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Ashish Naithani, Khan's advocate, Kartikeya Hari Gupta, said, "The transfer order included baseless allegations such as 'laxity in work' and 'non-compliance with seniors' orders'. Rizwan had no issue with the new posting, but the language in the order had harmed his professional standing." He also expressed concern that the order had been leaked online before being formally served, suggesting a "breach of procedure and possible bias". The court accepted the petition and ordered the removal of all adverse remarks. "After the court's decision, the transfer stands as one made in public interest," said Gupta. The bench did not stay the transfer and allowed the department to act under rules if genuine violations were found. Gupta also faced online threats and impersonation for representing Usman. A fake social media account, falsely attributed to Gupta, shared inflammatory content, prompting him to lodge a police complaint. The court separately ordered Nainital police to investigate coordinated online abuse targeting judges and lawyers involved in the case. The court had also questioned a resolution passed by the Nainital Bar Association, which urged its members not to represent Usman, reiterating that every accused is entitled to legal defence. Meanwhile, Usman remains in judicial custody after a special Pocsocourt in Haldwani denied him bail.
