Is Margot Robbie about to get ‘Basic'? Steamy reboot fuels casting frenzy
Hollywood may be about to get a lot steamier, again. Margot Robbie is emerging as the clear fan favourite to lead a reboot of Basic Instinct, the 1992 erotic thriller that made Sharon Stone a household name. The new film, described as 'wild and orgasmic,' is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios' United Artists and already has the internet in a full-blown casting meltdown. With no official casting announced yet, speculation is reaching fever pitch online. Social media exploded when fans floated Robbie's name as the perfect modern Catherine Tramell. 'Remake it with Margot Robbie,' one user posted on X, echoing hundreds of similar sentiments. UK bookies have joined the fray, putting Robbie at 3/1 odds, just behind Florence Pugh at 2/1. Other contenders include Sydney Sweeney, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ana de Armas, and Jodie Comer. Adding fuel to the fire, original screenwriter Joe Eszterhas has signed a $4 million deal to write the reboot. Now 80, Eszterhas clapped back at ageist criticism with a statement that's as provocative as the project itself. 'The rumours of my cinematic impotence are exaggerated,' he said. 'My writing partner, the Twisted Little Man, is sky high up for this. He promises a wild and orgasmic ride.' The original Basic Instinct followed Michael Douglas as a detective entangled with sultry novelist Tramell, played with unforgettable menace by Stone. The film made over $350 million globally and featured one of the most iconic, and controversial, interrogation scenes in cinema history. With Margot Robbie's star only rising post-Barbie, fans are convinced she's the only one who can pull off the role with equal amounts of danger and allure. Whether she takes the plunge or not, the buzz is building, and this reboot is already one of the most anticipated (and lusted after) revivals of the decade.

'City High' Singer Robbie Pardlo Passes Away at 46
Source: Ethan Miller / Getty We are sad to report that Robbie Pardlo, a former member of the R&B trio City High, has passed away at the age of 46. A rep for the singer confirmed to TMZ that he passed away on July 17, surrounded by family and close friends in Willingboro, NJ. A cause of death has not been determined. Robbie Pardlo was more than just a talented vocalist; he was a compassionate soul whose music touched millions. Before his rise to fame with City High, Robbie lent his voice to Whitney Houston's 1999 hit 'My Love Is Your Love,' a track that achieved double platinum status and remains a fan favorite. Forming City High with Claudette Ortiz and Ryan Toby in the late 1990s, the group gained widespread recognition with their debut single, 'What Would You Do?' The thought-provoking anthem peaked in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2001, featured additional hits like 'Caramel' and 'City High Anthem.' Despite their success, the group disbanded shortly after, leaving behind a lasting impact on R&B and hip-hop fans. Robbie's life after City High was marked by personal challenges. During the group's peak, he faced emotional turmoil stemming from a relationship with bandmate Claudette Ortiz, who later married their fellow member Ryan Toby. This heartbreak contributed to Robbie's battle with alcoholism, a struggle he openly shared during his appearance on A&E's reality series Intervention in 2010. The show highlighted his journey from the depths of his addiction to his eventual recovery. Survivors include his mother, Marion, brother Gregory, wife Anika, and children Lyric & Chord-Andrew. Funeral arrangements are pending. RELATED: Rest In Power: Notable Black Folks Who We've Lost In 2025 SEE ALSO 'City High' Singer Robbie Pardlo Passes Away at 46 was originally published on

Robbie Williams releasing the album he wanted to after quitting Take That
Robbie Williams has reflected on his shock departure from Take That ahead of the release of Britpop, his first album of new material in nine years. The Angels singer, 51, joined the chart-topping boy band in the 1990s, alongside Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange. Take That had almost unparalleled success and left their mark on the UK charts forever, landing a whopping eight number one singles between 1993 and 1996. But the good times couldn't last, and Robbie sensationally left the group in 1995, devastating their fans so much that the Samaritans opened up a helpline. As a solo artist, Robbie came into his own almost immediately, with his 1997 debut album Life Thru a Lens going straight to number one in the UK albums chart and a cover of George Michael's Freedom becoming a hit. He's now revealed that upcoming studio release Britpop is closer in style to 'the album he wanted to make' upon leaving the group, which he appears to think didn't go far enough. Ahead of the release of his new single Spies, he said: '[With Britpop] I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995. It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British music. 'The new record is raw, there are more guitars and it's even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. I'm immensely proud of this as a body of work and I'm excited for fans to hear this album.' The big singles from Life Thru a Lens paid tribute to the Britpop sound, with songs like Let Me Entertain You prioritising rock instrumentation over the pop ballads Take That had become known for. From there, he became one of the most recognisable faces in British pop culture and eventually had his life story turned into musical biopic film Better Man. His success as a solo artist ultimately led him back to Take That, when he briefly rejoined the reformed group for their 2010 album Progress and its subsequent tour. But it appears that despite the fast and successful start to his solo career, Robbie may have wanted things to play out a little differently behind the scenes. The Rock DJ hitmaker only left Take That after being reprimanded for partying with Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel of Oasis, of which Robbie was a huge admirer. While Life Thru a Lens featured Oasis-inspired songs, like Lazy Days and Old Before I Die, the album contained a number of softer songs too – and it seems Robbie wanted things to be louder and heavier than they were. In 2013, Robbie spoke about the album and its tour to BBC Radio 4's Mastertapes series, saying: 'I'm a cabaret artist. For about five minutes in 1997 I wished to be [Radiohead singer] Thom Yorke and Liam Gallagher. More Trending It was ultimately the ballad Angels that became the biggest hit from the album, catapulting Robbie to international fame after its release as a single in late 1997. However, it would take until his second album, I've Been Expecting You, for Robbie to land his first number one, with 1998 single Millennium – the song was co-written by Robbie's frequent collaborator Guy Chambers. While I've Been Expecting You again acknowledged the Britpop sound of Oasis, the album's sound prioritised more pop-oriented instrumentation after the success of Angels. Robbie's album Britpop releases on October 10, 2025. Got a story? Woori Yallock Tigers star Robbie Allen celebrates 200th game with amazing wedding proposal
Who said there's no such thing as romance in footy...? After being chaired off in his 200th game, local footballer Robbie Allen came away with a fiancée and the four-points — proposing to long-time girlfriend Kayla Gell on the boundary line. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Local footy hero's amazing wedding proposal. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today The roof plumber from Melbourne's Yarra Valley played the entire game for the Woori Yallock Tigers with the engagement ring taped to his wrist. Thankfully the ring held in place and she said yes as the Tigers beat Healesville in the Outer East Premier Division clash. 'We had to make sure we got the win first,' Robbie told Sunrise. 'They started to catch us in the second quarter so I thought, 'God, I hope we get over the line here because I'm not doing it if we lose'. 'I'm not sure what I would have done, to be honest with you. I probably would have kept the ring taped to me wrist and put it off to another time.' The grand gesture was kept secret from everyone including Robbie's teammates. 'No one knew apart from Kayla's dad. I rang him Saturday morning to ask his permission,' Robbie said. 'We were actually talking to friends the week before saying it probably wasn't ever going to happen for us.' said Kayla. 'I think I'm still in shock. 'I didn't believe him I thought he was tricking me and I was like this is a very weird joke to pull.' The couple have been together for 12 years and have three boys, including a six-week old. 'They were probably more excited about running through the banner at the start of the game than what happened after the game, but it was pretty cool to have them by our side when it all happened,' Robbie said. Now the focus can return to that other piece of silverware — a premiership. The Tigers are currently in third spot on the ladder, looking for their first flag since 2014. As for the wedding ... 'It won't be at the local footy,' declared Kayla.
