38-Year-Old Asks Suze Orman Where To Move His Roth 401(k) — She Says Avoid This One Option

Knowing what to do with a 401(k) after leaving a job can feel overwhelming — especially for younger workers planning long-term. That's why a listener named Robert reached out to Suze Orman's "Women & Money" podcast for guidance on what to do with his Roth 401(k) if he ever leaves his company. Robert, 38, said he's been with his employer for 12 years and doesn't plan to leave anytime soon. Still, he wondered if he ever leaves his job, should he eventually roll his money into a Roth IRA, move it into a new employer's Roth 401(k), or just leave it where it is? Here's what Orman had to say — and the one move she advised him to avoid. Don't Miss: 'Scrolling To UBI' — Deloitte's #1 fastest-growing software company allows users to earn money on their phones. Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — Orman didn't offer a one-size-fits-all answer but made it clear that one option was off the table. "Should you roll the money into a Roth 401(k) at a new company? No," she said. Instead, she encouraged Robert to either leave the money in his current Roth 401(k) or roll it into a Roth IRA, depending on what he feels most comfortable with at the time. Her reasoning? Over time, Robert could accumulate a large balance in his 401(k), possibly a million dollars or more. Liquidating and transferring that amount later might feel daunting, especially if he's unfamiliar with investment options in the new plan. Trending: Maximize saving for your retirement and cut down on taxes: . If Robert leaves his job, he'll typically have four options: cash out, leave the money in his old plan, roll it into a Roth IRA, or roll it into a new employer's Roth 401(k). Orman ruled out that last option, so let's look closer at the two she suggested. Leaving the Money in Your Roth 401(k) If the current 401(k) plan offers low-cost investment options and solid performance, leaving the funds where they are could make sense. In her blog, Orman mentions that larger companies often negotiate lower fees — sometimes under 0.20% in expense ratios — which can help preserve returns over time. The downside? You'll have to manage multiple accounts if you switch employers later. That can make retirement planning more complex down the road. Rolling Into a Roth IRA The other path Orman supports is rolling the funds into a Roth IRA. This option can give you greater control over your investments and simplify your portfolio if you're managing several old accounts. But beware: as a Pew Research study highlights, some IRA versions of the same funds found in a 401(k) can carry higher fees, which can cost investors thousands over time if not carefully managed. To keep costs low, Orman recommends using discount brokerages and investing in low-cost index funds or rolling over your 401(k) can streamline your retirement accounts, there are some pitfalls to avoid: Indirect Rollovers: These involve receiving a check and reinvesting the money yourself within 60 days. If you miss the deadline, you may face taxes and penalties. Higher Fees: Not all IRAs are created equal. Make sure to research expense ratios and investment options before making a move. Losing Employer-Only Investment Options: Some 401(k) plans include investment choices you won't find in an IRA or new employer's plan. For Robert — and anyone considering what to do with their Roth 401(k) — the best choice depends on comfort level, investment familiarity, and fees. Orman's guidance is clear: Avoid rolling it into a new employer's plan. Instead, evaluate whether to keep it where it is or roll it into a low-cost Roth IRA that gives you more control and flexibility. As always, it pays to compare your options carefully before making a decision. 'Robert's return on Emmerdale will go down in soap history as best surprise'

Did I ever think I'd be writing about a Robert Sugden return in 2025? Absolutely not. Emmerdale pulled off the biggest soap surprise when Ryan Hawley reprised his role after six years. There was everything from, codenames on set - Marco, Aaron's Italian boyfriend from his travels - and secret entrances to ensure the news didn't get out. Even a potential leak didn't reveal all about Robert's return. What was described as a brief stint - and certainly framed that way - had everyone thinking Robert would just be another of John Sugden's nightmares. But Robert is here to stay. Ryan confirmed to The Mirror exclusively that his stay in the Dales would not be a brief one, not a passing moment, but for an extended period - leaving Robron fans, no doubt, overjoyed. Ryan told us: "The secret is out today! My character is returning permanently and not just for Aaron and John's wedding. I am back for good, and I am so excited to be playing Robert again. "I have had a few calls over the past six years to see how I would feel about reprising the role, but it never felt quite right. Recently, while I was living in Brazil with my family, where we had been for the past year, Danny texted to see how I would feel. We've always kept in touch, and after a lot of thought, I told him, 'Yeah, I am up for it.' I then got a call swiftly from the producers, and it went from there. The timing felt right for us to not only move back to Britain, but also for me to come back to Emmerdale. Enough time has passed, and with this big wedding storyline, it is the right time for Robert to cause chaos and huge drama!" Never has a soap pulled off such a cleverly kept secret. It will be something that will be spoken about for a long time amongst soap fans, as the speculation continues to grow about Robert's true intentions and just why he is back. Robron understandably means everything to the fans of Emmerdale, a storyline - a couple - that was cut way too short before its time. And now, there is the potential for them to finally rekindle things, but will it go back to how it was? It remains to be seen whether Aaron will choose John for all his flaws or whether Robert will steal his heart once more. However, it ends - Aaron has a big choice to make but maybe it's best we leave this with Robert's words? "I'm not asking you to choose me, I'm asking you to choose us". And isn't that how all great love stories truly begin...

Last Wisconsin student in National Spelling Bee one letter short of making finals, places 10th

Wisconsin's last remaining student in the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee was eliminated in the final round of the semifinals on May 28 in National Harbor, Maryland. It took the word "Allobroges" to take out New Berlin seventh grader Ethan Robert, who tied for 10th place in the nationwide competition that started with 243 students and is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025. And he only missed the correct spelling by one letter, replacing the last "o" with an "i." Throughout the semifinals, he correctly spelled "acetarious" (used in salads) and "vibices" (a linear subcutaneous extravasation of blood). He also correctly described the word "thermophilic" (of, relating to, or being an organism growing at a high temperature). During the quarterfinals earlier on May 28, the New Berlin Eisenhower Middle/High School student correctly spelled "metanym," answered the vocabulary question for the word "albatross," a large seabird, and spelled "adobo," a dish of Spanish origin consisting of meat marinated in a spicy sauce, browned and then simmered in the marinade. During the preliminary rounds on May 27, Robert correctly spelled the word "promyshlennik," meaning Russian trappers and fur traders of Siberia and Alaska. Another Wisconsin speller, Appleton sixth grader Jacob Martonito, correctly spelled his first-round preliminary word but was eliminated on a vocabulary question in the second round on May 27. Martonito, who attends Appleton Classical School, correctly spelled "Makgadikgadi Pans," the name of a Botswana basin filled with salt beds. However, he incorrectly answered a vocabulary question on the word "ingenuous." According to competition's website, Robert loves watching sports (especially the NFL), doing taekwondo, math and geography, hanging out with friends and online gaming. He also enjoys reading and listed the Percy Jackson series as his favorite book. Contact Claudia Levens at clevens@ Follow her on X at @levensc13.
