'No one is talking about them' SEC analyst is high on Texas A&M in 2025

Texas A&M's SEC media days appearance will take place on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. as coach Mike Elko and his three player representatives, linebacker Taurean York, guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams, and cornerback Will Lee III, will speak to the media for the first and final time before the start of fall camp early next month. Still, even before Elko takes the podium, a long list of college football media figures had plenty to say regarding the Aggies' "dark horse" status as one of the more underrated teams nationally. Thanks to the TexAgs Live show, host David Nuno and Billy Liucci have conducted several intriguing interviews with well-known CFB broadcasters, including Jordan Rodgers. Rodgers, who played quarterback at Vanderbilt and is the brother of future Hall of Famer quarterback Aaron Rodgers, was asked who his "SEC sleeper" is with less than 45 days to go before the start of the 2025 season. With 16 options, Rodgers quickly chose Texas A&M, which he believes is a potential sleeping giant that could surprise everyone this fall. "No one is talking about them" Rodgers stated. "They are extremely talented. The backfield is loaded. A&M will surprise some people." Yes, the hype is real, and I'll be the first to deny that those of us in the Texas A&M media sphere have echoed this sentiment during the offseason, outside of noting the Aggies' strengths on both sides of the ball. Because of the way the 2024 season ended with three consecutive losses, it's fair that some feel the team doesn't have what it takes to withstand a tough schedule, but it's also important to note that nearly every key player from the 2026 campaign has returned, paired with 14 additions from the transfer portal. Rodgers isn't the first, and won't be the last media member to hype up the Aggies as the season grows closer, but he's 100% on point that this roster is highly talented, and loaded at running back headlined by senior Le'Veon Moss, who averaged over six yards per carry before his season-ending injury halfway through the 2024 season. Redshirt sophomore QB Marcel Reed will be the focus once the season begins, but the Tennessee native does not need to play at an elite level for Texas A&M to win nine, or possible ten games if the run game and veteran offensive line lives up to its hefty preseason expecations, while the defense is expected to also improve with Elko now calling defensive plays. Astros Should Look to Upgrade Middle Infield, Cut Ties With Brendan Rodgers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Houston Astros know they have a chance to win the American League pennant this season even ahead of the Detroit Tigers or whoever comes out of the AL East. This is an Astros team that has dealt with a lot of injuries, but has a talented roster. One way the team can get even better is upgrading the middle infield and either demoting or cutting ties with Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers has gotten most of his work at second base for Houston, but he's yet to make the most of it. His slash line as of the All-Star break is a mere .191/.266/.278 with two home runs and 11 RBI. HOUSTON, TEXAS - JUNE 14: Brendan Rodgers #1 of the Houston Astros bats in the third inning against the Minnesota Twins at Daikin Park on June 14, 2025 in Houston, Texas. HOUSTON, TEXAS - JUNE 14: Brendan Rodgers #1 of the Houston Astros bats in the third inning against the Minnesota Twins at Daikin Park on June 14, 2025 in Houston, only recorded 115 at-bats so far this season, so it's not the largest sample size in the world, but it's enough to show he isn't producing the way he should be for a contender. The Astros only signed him to a one-year deal worth $2 million, so the organization wouldn't even be losing out on much if it chose to designate him for assignment. Houston has been moving star Jose Altuve around between left field and second base. He's much more comfortable at second base, but the Astros have nobody else who can swing the bat well enough to play left. Cooper Hummell and Taylor Trammell, the other two outfield options, are hitting even worse than Rodgers. Rodgers isn't getting it done, so the organization must do one of two things before the trade deadline passes: find someone to play second base and keep Altuve in left field or move Altuve to second base and acquire a left fielder. If the Astros bring in an infielder, Ramón Urías from the Baltimore Orioles is versatile and has a little more pop in his bat. If they choose to push for an outfielder, Taylor Ward or one of the two Boston Red Sox outfielders who could be dealt (Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu). Houston has played this jigsaw puzzle for far too long this year, and it's a game the organization can't continue to play heading into the playoffs. Rodgers issues Celtic transfer update on Yamada and Edouard

The Japanese striker, currently with Kawasaki Frontale, will undergo a medical in the coming days. Rodgers spoke about Yamada after his team's 2-0 friendly win against Sporting CP. He said [RecordSport]: "He'll have a medical over the next couple of days and we'll have a look at him. "We've lost a lot of goals, so we need to replace that. Read more: "Hopefully, this can be one of a number of players we can bring in that aspect." Rodgers praised Yamada's "intensity and work rate," qualities that have been noted by the scouts. He added: "In terms of the club, we will bring in players to develop and players for now. "Even though he's a bit older, he's probably one of those that can give us that intensity and pressure. "The idea was to bring him in and assess him. "He's a strong boy – but we'd want to add to our front line also." Rodgers also dismissed rumours of Odsonne Edouard returning to Celtic. He said: "I'm not worried so much about a big name. "It's about the collective of the team. "Big names don't always give you want you need. "This team needs hunger, goals and work rate and intensity. "Big names don't always give you that. "It's about big players. "I just want players who are hungry to learn but also ready now. "There are lots of players linked with us. "Odsonne hasn't been on my radar, to be fair. "I obviously know him, but it's about a player who will fit into the structure of the team."

Brendan Rodgers focusing Celtic transfer hunt on another striker as Odsonne Edouard links addressed with Yamada deal done

The Celtic boss confirmed that Luis Palma will go out on loan, Kwon will leave but left door open for Yang despite interest Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Shin Yamada is on the way to Celtic – but he's still in the market for another striker. ‌ The Japan cap is set to arrive in Scotland in the next 24 hours for a medical head of his £1.3m move from Kawasaki Frontale. ‌ Rodgers will give Yamada a chance to stake a claim for the first team but he's determined to add some serious firepower in the coming weeks. ‌ The Hoops boss – who last night watched his side see off Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in Portugal – said: 'He'll have a medical over the next couple of days and we'll have a look at him. 'We've lost a lot of goals so we need to replace that. Hopefully this can be one of a number of players we can bring in that aspect. 'He's got intensity and workrate. It's something the scouts have seen. 'In terms of the club, we will bring in players to develop and players for now. Even though he's a bit older, he's probably one of those that can give us that intensity and pressure. 'I need to look and see him when he comes in and hopefully he can do well. The idea was to bring him in and assess him. 'He's a strong boy – but we'd want to add to our front line also.' ‌ Former Hoops ace Odsonne Edouard has been touted for a possible return with Crystal Palace set to let him go. But Rodgers said: 'I'm not worried so much about a big name. It's about the collective of the team. 'Big names don't always give you want you need. This team needs hunger, goals and work rate and intensity. ‌ 'Big names don't always give you that. It's about big players. 'I just want players who are hungry to learn but also ready now. There are lots of players linked with us. ‌ 'Odsonne hasn't been on my radar, to be fair. I obviously know him but it's about a player who will fit into the structure of the team.' Rodgers admitted some of his fringe men are set to go with Luis Palma expected to move while Norwich City are chasing Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeuk-kyu has also been told he can leave. He said: 'Luis will probably go out on loan. There's been a little bit of interest in Yang but he's been a good squad player for us. ‌ 'Kwon is in a difficult position with the competition there so he's obviously looking for a club.' Rodgers was thrilled with Celtic's display against Portuguese big guns Sporting in the Estadio Algarve. Roe Hatate and Luke McCowan struck in the second half to secure an impressive victory in the scorching heat. ‌ Rodgers rolled out a strong starting line-up featuring Kasper Schmeichel, Kieran Tierney and Diazen Maeda. The manager said: 'It was excellent. It was always going to be a very good test against a team with very good players who play their system very well. ‌ 'I thought our pressing was good and we had to be brave. We did that and played well through the thirds. 'We could have finished off a few more moves but we looked very good for this stage of preseason. 'It's about consistently improving.' Rodgers was delighted with the display but Celts could have been even more comfortable after hitman Adam Idah missed a couple of first half chances. The Hoops boss warned: 'He needs to come alive. You can't be caught thinking at this level. 'You have to anticipate and move and then have authority in the box. I know he can score goals and it's also the time of pre-season.'
